What I don't think people understand is that songwriters like her and Ester Dean want to pitch their songs to artists like Rihanna. Rihanna doesn't take it and shit all over it, if that was the case they wouldn't have had the songs pitched to her. There is a difference between a songwriter and a recording artist.. Sometimes they are both.

Writers like sia (who chooses not to show her face anymore), ester dean, & cristyle are not so much into being in the public eye. Yet they're talented. They do things and appear as they want to. They choose not to be seen much and still express their creativity the way they know how. They still get to make great music without getting caught by papz and they don't have to worry about media bullshit. I am a big Rihanna fan as I do know she does not write her own music most of the time. Writers get awards too we just don't see that on TV or hear about awards like ASCAP and things similar for producers and writers

This comment wins the Stating-The-Bleeding-Obvious Award. of COURSE we fucking know writers don't seek the spotlight, in the same way as screenwriters for blockbuster Hollywood movies shun the spotlight. Why are you making a comment that is so unbelievably frigging obvious?
@MJAYMONONOKE
@MJAYMONONOKE 9 жыл бұрын
+bboychance Well, not it's that obvious. Some people have the notion that an artist does it all. They're not privy to the mass marketing machine behind these manufactured pop stars. But on the contrary there are writers/producers who've sought the spotlight: Timbaland, Keri Hilson, Ne-Yo, to name a few. But to the original poster: I wouldn't consider Ester Dean part of that generalization. She has released her own songs, featured in others and has done acting.

I honestly think some of these people who write the songs require the singer to sing it the way they want it. If you see old footage of Xtina and Britney in the studios recording their first albums they are completely guided (if not forced) by the producers who tell them how to sound, what melismas and ad libs they have to sing etc.

Umm OK. Then all you have to do is look up the song credits. You also got producers that create the instrumentals, sound engineers, mixing, and mastering--usually this stuff can be found in the credits to the song. Also, sometimes live instrumentalists will be credited. These people aren't looking for major fame- it's just their job. It's the public's decision to look these things up or not. Only an idiot would seriously think an artiste is fully responsible for the song. Even Charlie puth, who writes, produces, and mixes his own songs will have assistance in mastering the song so it is radio-ready. ☺️

In opposition to what many people say, I think that Rihanna decides to respect the original melody. As a soon to be official songwriter, I'd hate it if I worked hard on the main melody just for the singer to come and say "I like your song I want it but I want to change it all" (then I'd wonder, what did you like of it?). Most people probably won't understand. A real demo does hardly sound good and needs a lot of post-work. This is a real song for the singer just to record it with her/his voice.

This is very true. If you havn't lived under a rock the last 15 years it's pretty clear Rihanna is a very capable singer in her own right. If anything it shows that she and Kuk her vocal producer is professional enough to let the song win. If the demo is good enough, there is no need to add flair. This song in particular would just sound worse with Ariana Grande style wails and stuff. So all respect to Rihanna. And to all other commenters. This is not all black or white. Sometimes things are changed when the artist cuts the song. Sometimes because they have a great idea, sometimes to make the artist feel comfortable singing it or because the artist has a big ego. Whatever. It depends. But the producers and writers always try to present the best song in their vision.

@TheDeal007 ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! For every song you just named, the demo was so different from Beyoncé's version. Of coarse they are going to sound similar bc what made her want to record the song is the fact that she liked it, so she's not going to TOTALLY change the song. But she adds adlibs, harmonies, backround vocals, emotion. Like, Rihanna did ABSOLUTELY NOTHINGG to this song, she just sang it EXACTLY the same way it was given to her... & there's plenty more videos on here of her doing th

People don't understand how the music industry works. This song was given to Rihanna because she is the MONEY MAKER, she is a huge superstar, the song obviously became successful, it reached number 1, and sold millions of copies, it had a lower likelihood of blowing up if it was done by someone who isn't famous without the help of a star, ie., Rihanna. Cristyle is still getting paid, she actually got paid way more than she would have if she had released the song on her own.

@Misana because "Christyle" is unheard of... she will have made a lot more money by selling the song to Def Jam for Rihanna. That way the song has sold about 8 million copies under Rihanna's name, but you'd never have heard this song if she'd kept it to herself.

Did anyone else noticed how Rihanna always changes her voice in every song so that it sounds like the songwriter's voice ? Look at how her voice sounds like Cristyle's voice. Plus, the song "Diamonds" where she imitates Sia's voice, who is the songwriter. Let's not forget about the song "S&M", where we barely hear a difference between Rihanna's voice and the songwriter, Ester Dean's voice.

@reaper69316 a lot of songs in the industry are written by people the public doesn't know about- the writers sell them to producers and label management to produce big time singers. But Ne-YO, Jessie J and bunch of other people are now singers of their own because they took it to the next step and made themselves famous.

*See this is the MAIN reason why I'll always love Hip hop music over all the others. Rappers are known for writing there OWN SONGS with there OWN LYRICS(obviously not so much nowadays but back in the golden Era). Whereas a Pop singer doesn't have to do shiiitttttt or do any creative thinking or writing they just get to piggy back off a demo they think will blow up*
