The song was written for Beyonce, and therefore the demo is sung in a key that would be good for her. the fact that he can even sing that high is impressive. it is sung flat because all demos are created flat so artist can add their own depth and dimension to the song. I saw him preform Halo at a One Republic concert a few years ago in his own key and it was amazing! He really does have a killer voice so if you want to hear a better version with him feel free to check that out. Both people are incredibly talented and amazing so give credit where its due! To Ryan Tedder for writing an amazing song, and to Beyonce for being Beyonce and blessing us with her amazing voice.

I'm just gonna kinda support both sides here I personally am a fan of OneRepublic and Ryan, but Beyonce did not steal the song. Ryan wrote it for her. Ryan Tedder is the one that wrote this song and is the original artist for it. This is a demo that all song writers do so that artists can hear it ad decide if they want to record it. But Beyonce did a great job making it all her own.

Lance Franklin Certain stanza's. The verses in this version are different than Beyonce's version. Second of all Beyonce gained legal rights to thins song like many other artists who buy songs or who have songs finished for them... If you change something in a song by adding or altering it in anyway then you get creative rights as well. I know music biz... I work often with Miami rappers and singers. I write songs myself and have sold a few songs. If you change shit you get credits.

Because when you are a multi-million, multi-platinum artist with over 300 million record sales, You, your label, your worldwide management, and worldwide publishers puts massive pressure on a writer to say "I Am BEYONCE. If you want me to record this record, and you want it to be a worldwide hit, I Want A Writing Credit'. and therefore, common sense dictates that most writers will give up, say, 10% songwriting credits to have a massive hit, than to keep 100% of a non-hit that no one will ever hear. That's the way the record industry works. - Trust me - i'm a songwriter ;)

Ryan C that is how magical the artistry of songwriting is. Tedder being a lead vocalist is different from his being a songwriter. Halo wouldn't have worked with One Republic performing it. It was a perfect fit for Beyoncé though. Most writers like Tedder don't really have themselves in mind when writing a song of an artist. They know how to make a song work.

Rappers are known for writing there OWN SONGS with there OWN LYRICS(obviously not so much nowadays but back in the golden Era).
