Many years ago, I had a chat with a fellow who worked for USF1, per him, the bulk of the blame for the teams failure rests on Anderson. The problem was Anderson would work out designs, send them off to be processed and what not preparatory to being built and when they'd send him back the final specs just before construction, he would "fix" things he saw that didn't look correct to him. So they were locked in an endless struggle of getting designs, prepping the tooling, and sending them back for final approval only to be sent an all new design for the same part. I was told this was down to the fact that prior to all of this Anderson had always had people above him who did the final approval. Now he was not only the designer, but also the person with the final say and his own designs were never good enough for himself so he constantly had to tinker with them. Supposedly, everything Windsor was telling the press was what Anderson was telling him, as Windsor didn't spend a whole lot of time at the shop. His reasoning for his shop visit where he asked if anyone didn't think they'd be ready in time was because some of the employees finally reached out to him and told him what was happening. From what I'd heard he was actually pretty devastated when he finally realized what was going on and that the USF1 dream was over.

What F1 needs is a Mark Cuban type of a man if the USA wants their own team (as dreamed). Someone who is not afraid to lose money and who will stay the course if times get tough. Many NBA team owners don't actually want to win the title. They invest just enough to get to playoffs and then lose in the first round so now they get paid. But Mark Cuban dreamed of winning the title and he made that dream come true. Also, having a lineup of drivers that are of the same nationality has almost never worked (when it comes to back-marker teams). Having drivers from different nationalities will make that team popular in at least 2 countries so you would get more interest and gain more money. Because at the end of the day it all comes down to money.
@Amm17ar Жыл бұрын
Most F1 teams.....if not all lose money. The big teams lose money 100% of the time. The smaller teams are able to make marginal profits but thats cuz they dont spend nearly as much. Merc, RedBull + Alpha, Ferrari, Aston, McLaren, and Alfa Romeo all lose money. They justify F1 as a means of insanely valuable marketing, but also as a means to fuel innovation and creativity that will trickle down to their money makers.......cars... Haas and Williams both made marginal profits if Im correct, but thats because of their spending. They made money off their brands, marketing, sponsors and so forth, but the value gained that the others can afford to justify losing money isnt there for them. They rely on guys like Mazespins to bring in money without the fear of losing it for ego, love of the sport and other reasons. Guys like them own teams not to boost their portfolio but rather to have it as a toy. They can afford losing money, and they dont mind losing a few million for the right to own a F1 team. What im getting at is Mark Cuban may love sports and doesnt mind spending to win like he did in Dallas......but NBA teams make money. Even when a team is spending beyond the salary cap, most North American sport teams make money. They are structured to do so, the leagues are structured to make money at the end of the day through revenue sharing, huge and dedicated markets, arenas, ticket sales, and so much more that isnt present in current day F1. Mark Cuban may spend 500 million on his team as a whole annually, but he makes a lot more from it and the value of owning that team takes up a lot of his net worth. Just because someones net worth is 4 billion, doesnt mean they have liquid assets or 4 billion in the bank. Over half his wealth is owning the Mavs, as they are valued at around 2.5 billion (on the higher end imo) Can he afford a F1 team, hell yeah..... Is owning an F1 team a smart financial decision......Absolutely not. I dont think Mark would invest in an F1 team. Youd need to get either a guy thats stupid rich who wouldnt mind losing money, or a manufacturer. Andretti seem to be able to make it viable and possible because they have positive cash flow from other sources that could help fund it and off-set the cost. Andretti doesnt care about making money, they care about racing. Most North American owners care about making money.

Another issue that difficults getting an USF1 style team is talent acquisition and experience. IndyCar is the most similar to F1 that there is in the USA and still is a whole another beast with limited knowledge base transferrable to F1, mostly because no major series in the US requires teams to design and manufacture their cars (There are some factory teams out there in IMSA and things like that but those are a rarity, not the norm), so you'd need to bring people from F1 to your base of operations and I bet not enough people with experience in F1 are willing to move and set shop in the USA since most will be people that are already settled with families and social lives and all. Like sure, young engineers with nothing to lose and the F1 dream? Sure. But good luck poaching higher ups from the rest of the teams.

One of the more alarming details was how Ken Anderson put his questionably competent son as his second-of-command and Jr insisted he had to approve or veto _every single technical drawing and design personally._ Even Adrian Newey would balk at such a notion and that man knows F1 cars better than F1 cars know themselves. Consider that literally thousands of these can be produced in the planning of an F1 car and then imagine just how much that slowed things down. It's less of a bottleneck and more anaphylaxis. Moreover, Anderson Jr. would apparently often just... change details on the car's design on a whim and just expect everyone to adapt to it. Some former staff have told stories of how they'd come in in the morning and find Junior had just arbitrarily changed something without warning and that all the work _they'd_ been doing was suddenly useless as a result. Doubly bizarre considering the general reaction of the F1 community to the published CAD model of the car was, "It's a bit... basic, isn't it?" In the end the most of the car that was ever produced was a mock-up tub and front wing pieces IIRC.

The whole process in bringing in new teams was flawed. Apart from the obvious backing down on the cost cap that the FIA managed to do, all four teams were rushed and poorly managed. You only have to look at the amount of name changes the three that made it did before they even started their first weekend. USF1 though was on another level. Run by basically the most incompetent management you could ask for, and built on a steady stream of lies, it was always doomed to fail. People can bag on HRT, Virgin and Lotus all they want, but at least they made it and lasted a few years. The biggest problem all of the teams had were the fact it was a different era to the 1980s and 1990s when pretty much anyone could rock up with a car designed on the back of a cigarette pack and try to race. The budgets were even bigger, the regulations even stricter and the teams already there took things a lot more serious (hence their fight against the budget cap). None of the teams that were given entry would have got out of the pre-quali sessions of years gone by. USF1 for all their faults, lies and even more lies, were hardly the worse offenders in this debacle. That glory rests solely at the feet of the FIA and FOM who never should have opened the doors to such mediocrity in the first place, without a significantly better plan in place.

It wouldve been funny if Gene Haas didnt sign the acord and left F1. Which honestly looked very likely when Ferrari got caught cheating and not helping Haas like they were suppose to

Lived in the area at the time and popped by the shop in the early days. Long on enthusiasm, short on substance…and funding. A pity: Some good people were involved. Ironically, the region has become a mini-hub of carbon-fiber race car tub technology.

As usual a fantastically made video kudos to you good sir! But a great portion of your video quality is your choice of music. I'd be curious to know what music you use for your videos but can't find any links to or credit for said music.... Even if its your own music would be nice to have the means to download and/or pay for the rights to own the music :D

Williams is run by an American Corporation who did promote an American driver to the grid for the 2023 season. I would like to see the FIA approve Andretti Autosports into F1. I'm sure Andretti would hire American drivers or bring back Grosjean to the gird and yes, Grosjean is an Andretti driver. The big question is where they would hire driver if they do get approved, from Indycar or Formula 2?
@mattiasgarbi9470 Жыл бұрын
If a driver of theirs wins Formula E the latter.
@clipobserver Жыл бұрын
@@mattiasgarbi9470 There is American talent in the Formula Junior series with Jax Crawford, Kaylen Frederick, and Hunter Yeany along with JM Correa and Brad Benavides. I wonder if putting Grosjean in one of the seats would help Andretti's chances in being on the grid for 2024.

To be fair to Haas, I really liked how they went about it when they entered, they were smart and by minimising the stuff they had to do in house they got credible results quickly. and apart from sponsorship ("Bad santa" and Uralkali in 21) they're one on the most likeable teams.

Yes. With the battlements that have been built around the entrenched F-1 teams, the scuttling of Andretti F-1 has made it clear F-1 doesn't really want a US team, just USD.
