My father actually raced against him in F2000 ( he’s in the video at 2:53 in the yellow 91 car). He said Narain was really quick but always a bit aloof. He raced against Alex Yoong too ( was a mentor to him). Josh, if you want to do a video on Alex, let me know; probably have some good stories on him.

@@subarnosinha8042 Granted, he is a good driver. My point was that he has bought his way into F1, and isn't there on pure talent alone. I acknowledge that that isn't his fault either, but it just makes it so much more difficult to root for him, like you do with other drivers who we know are just as competitive as he is, but are out of a seat due to not having the right amount of sponsors or to be born to a billionaire father.

I think he was disciplined, hard working, brave, Started racing early but he never had that natural driving talent. Jack brabham was almost 34 when he won his first grand prix, but he did so because at the end of the day he had that natural talent. But kudos to narain for doing what he did.

18:20 I think it's important to mention, that Karthikeyan in this situation had hydraulic failure. Because of that he's lost power steering and his car suddenly slow down. It wasn't Narain fault and Rosberg couldn't avoid that.

I remember when Narain was coming I to the F1 sphere in the early 2000s, the general chatter was that he was there on merit of junior formula record. He wasn't going to set the world alight, but certainly good enough to be in midfield. As you say, the performances were good to start with, however I believe there a lot of politics in the team, and Narains car didn't get the bulk of the updates. He should have probably not come back in 2011, which didn't do him any favours. I remember reading an article about Narain/Carlin in Autosport where the chief mechanic mentions how he holds Narain in high esteem. All in all, he is an average driver that can produce good performances from time to time. He was past it in F1 from 2011.
