Happy Halloween
Here's the skinny. I was trying to think of good Halloween list ideas that haven't been done to death (no pun intended) and fell short. Then I got the idea for Scariest Bosses, BUT it was far too late. Oh well, next year.
I feel really bad that nothing from Metroid made the list. Oh well. Those tracks are more atmospheric than scary anyways.

I suppose it's worth pointing out that Shadow Man is a non-horror game. It's listed on Wikipedia as a Platformer/Action-adventure. It's also listed as a 17+ ESRB rating but I can tell you now that it IS a non-horror game.

Ah the Playrooms. I remember playing through Shadowman on N64 when I was about 13. The whole game has such a dark and gruesome atmosphere, but the Playrooms are something else altogether. I loved them then and I love them now. @Tim Haywood did an absolutely fantastic job with the music and atmosphere of that game.

A song i feel deserves a mention on this list is the song "Not Safe" from the game OFF. It's discordant, and in the background you can hear whispers, and at some point some pounding on a door and yelling "Help!" (in French because OFF was made by a French person)

While it isn't scary, PotatOS Lament(Old Aperture Main Menu music) from Portal 2 is haunting. Torn/Distortion World from Pokemon Platinum... Actually the Torn/Distortion World is creepy as heck. If it weren't for the fact that I found the dancing redeads and gibdos hilarious I'd agree with Ikana Canyon. SA-X's theme from Metriod Fusion scares me as well.

Definitely some very good pieces there. One that is also very good is the "Not Safe" soundtrack from OFF that plays in pure zones. Going into much detail would be a huge spoiler on the game, though, so I'll refrain from doing so.

Yesterday I heard the original non-creepy version of #1 on TV. It was playing in the background while a nearly 90-year-old woman practiced gymnastics (I think she has a Guinness). Apparently the song already existed before the game and it's classical music. But I can't help but think of the screams and the creepy noises. The more you know.

Well, the theme, aside from giving me the chills when I was a kid, had to go through some remixes because the original tune created sound wavelengths that made kids feel sick. I think that's why it's such an infamous theme, just saying, aside from reminding everyone of the most depressing town in PKMN history.
