I was hesitant to ever cover The Beatles... but, try anything once, I guess. Recorded on a Zoom H2. Carson McKee on guitar.

The level of genius in Lennon's and McCartney's compositions (and pieces like "Martha" are compositions, not just songs) still blows my mind to this day! The rhythmic, chord structure and melodic complexities of this and other great songs, and the shear beauty of all those elements working together as they do still leaves me speechless when I hear again, 50 years later! Props to George Harrison too. Good job by these two kids.

I feel the same way. I'm old enough to remember when they were just a news item on a Pittsburgh rock and roll station. A few months later they appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show and took the world by storm. Even my father, a former country musician, found them impressive. Fifty-six years later they're still my favorite band, not because of nostalgia -- I love modern R&R as well -- but because they were so damned good. Every time I listen to "Abbey Road" I'm stunned by the writing, the musicianship, the vocal harmonies and the sheer beauty of their work.

@Frank Herrera Yes, I am well aware that later in their career Lennon and McCartney wrote separately, and anyone familiar with their work can easily distinguish one from the other. I only refer to the Lennon-McCartney song writing partnership under which all of their material with the Beatles is published regardless of which ever one actually wrote a particular song.
@belascialoja48124 жыл бұрын
@Frank Herrera Paul once said in an interview that, as a teen, he aspired to write stuff like Cole Porter's and Gershwin's tunes. Great American Songbook. I think he could have done it, and he almost did it with "Martha." Also, "Here, There, and Everywhere," and "Yesterday." Granny tunes? Gimme more granny tunes!

@Frank Herrera I'm always fascinated with a lot of these things. Yet when the Beatles broke up Paul went on to write total rubbish after a short time and John would roll out greats. Around the time he was already going forward artistically by going retro rock n roll while Paul was all Mull of Kintyre

@ewest143 жыл бұрын
@@ggoldfingers Are you serious? Quit that antiquated thinking and and actually give his music an unbiased listen. Paul was on fire after he left the Beatles. His first album McCartney had some excellent songs on it like Maybe I'm Amazed, Every Night, and Junk. He did everything himself and it influenced a lot of DIY musicians and lo-fi styles. Then you've got RAM which was critically trashed at the time, but is now universally praised by critics. RAM is even thought of by many as an early indie pop album and that would explain one of the reasons why the critics didn't like it at the time. Whatever the critics thought, people loved it then and love it even more now. Then you've got Band on the Run which was so good that even the usual McCartney bashers couldn't bash it. Then if you fast forward in time, Paul did Flaming Pie and Chaos and Creation which are thought of as two of his best albums. With all this information, you can see that Paul has been making amazing music his whole life and hasn't stopped.
