Josh Turner Guitar

Josh Turner Guitar

Күн бұрын

By John Prine. This version based on that of the Seldom Scene. This video has been a long time coming. We did not in fact get a noise complaint after filming, although we deserved one. The sirens were for something else.
Kingdom Jasmine: bit.ly/290y3Wl
The Other Favorites: bit.ly/29l10t0
Carson McKee -- Eastman MD-505 Mandolin
Bob Barrick -- Martin DR guitar
Josh Turner -- Gibson RB Banjo
Filmed on a Canon Rebel T3i
Recorded on a Zoom H2
Edited in Pro Tools and Adobe Premiere.

Josh, like you I play about everything with strings me for 50 years. Last few years I've had a cronic ailment that effects nerves and muscles. Has kept me from my music to a great degree. I am so lucky to have found your videos it takes me back to a better time in my life. You and your friends are a credit to music. Nothing better than a group just making great music at home.

I was looking around in the gibson custom shop once when it was in the Opry mills mall in Nashville and someone picked up a guitar and started playing this, within a few seconds a couple of other random people - apparently not knowing each other - joined in with instruments they were looking at and played the whole song. When they finished the whole store applauded and everyone just went back to what they were doing. One of the cooler things I ever saw. This just reminded me of it. Great job - you boys should go far.

I’ve never eat anyone who doesn’t like John’s music. I first heard him about a year before he recorded his first album - in about October 1970 - when he was playing at The Fifth Peg a couple CB of blocks away from where I was living. The first time I saw him, I thought this must be how it felt to see Dylan in the Village in the early ‘60’s. I’d go to 2 shows on Friday’s & 3 on Saturdays ($1 cover & 2 drink minimum) because I knew it wasn’t going to be long before he’d be going on to bigger things. But he always seemed to enjoy the small crowds at the Fifth Peg - especially the 3rd show on Saturdays which was usually composed of those of us who lived nearby & were big fans. It was more like hanging out with your friends, one of whom was a great musician.

Found this video about three years ago when I first started learning guitar. I keep coming back to it and honestly it's probably my favorite recording of any song ever. This video was the first time I ever heard Paradise and in my mind this is the definitive version of John Prine's masterpiece. I've always used this as a marker for the guitar player I want to be. I've now played this song at probably close to 50 shows and every time I just hope my performance is even half as good as this.

@jerryglenn5150

I recently commented on a 'Sixteen Tons' video by two of these guys. I mistakenly gave Merle Travis credit for 'Nine Pound Hammer.' You're from Clay County. I'm from Hopkins, next door to Muhlenberg. I once joked that half of the first was kin on my dad's side and half the other county on my mom's. Mom grew up with the Everly Brothers and her dad was deacon and song leader at Ebenezer Church, where Merle's family is buried and a monument to him was put up. Merle's sister was one of my grandmother's best friends for many years. I interviewed her and Mose Rager (spelling?) for a school paper about Merle right after he died. I was lucky enough to meet John Prine, too. I agree this is a good cover. You can also catch this style offline at songfests all across Kentucky if you know where to look. Sometimes big name artists sneak in to stay in touch with their musical roots.

Didn't notice until today (and I've watched and listened more than once) but it appears that Carson flubbed the lyrics, knew he was flubbing the lyrics, but was cool enough to keep on going at about 2:18 in the third verse. At least, the reaction of Bob Barrick indicates he knew that Carson got it wrong and still was chill enough to continue. Bottom line: Lot of joy for them and me in this version.
