Even joshua bell bailed out of the up bow staccatos
@Boollish4 жыл бұрын
In professional contexts, it typically depends on how much you need to project. Up bow staccato is impressive, but if you can't hit into the back row of a concert hall, it means very little. Wieniawski 1 has even more brutal upbow staccatos and most people take them separately in performance context.

i'm not a josh bell fan, but to be fair, some other fiddlers didn't have great staccato, like elmar oliviera and nathan milstein. and me.

@@cornel999 you are correct. I noticed that with Milstein, but even Rachel Barton Pine, she mentioned that it wasn't born with it. It doesn't make you less a virtuoso even without a great up staccato..

No-as a matter of fact the first one earlier (around 5:09) he starts it up bow stacato then bails out of the last half of it doing separate bows. At 9:09 he does the same thing on the first passage, and then does the whole second staccato passage-separate bows.

Yeah, idk what happened to him. I have recently been listening to some of his older recordings and they seem much better than he is now. His playing is just weird. He's one of the few violinists who solely uses arm vibrato, and he tries to do spiccato in the upper third of the bow with only 3 fingers on the stick. That in addition to having horrible bow distribution, and of course his constant gyrations. No wonder his sound is now garbage. I suppose he's past his prime now.

I'm sure it's just the mic-ing which does not seem to be a mix of close and far mics, but rather just one mic at the back of the auditorium. Also, just so you know, Joshua Bell plays the Gibson Stradivarius violin. Take that how you will; some people adore Strads; some people think modern instruments project better.
@MangoGalaxyYT24 күн бұрын
@randomoneforstuff3696it’s just this particular performance. Joshua Bell plays very well usually, but I just think Wieniawski isn’t his piece. This performance wasn’t great, but he has other performances where he plays well.

@@slavkoobreza8867yeah, but comparing Joshua Bell to yourself is a bad comparison. I’m not trying to be rude, it’s just the truth: you are not a world class violinists, and he is. Other world class violinists who play this piece are able to do it, so him not being able to do it is not a good look for him at all. I don’t think Wieniawski is his piece. He plays other stuff really well, but this recording just isn’t it.
