Fantastic video! I am a descendant of the Lincoln family of Rockingham County, Virginia. My grandmother (my father's mother) is a Salter born in Hamilton County, Ohio. We are a mixed race African American family that dates back to the 1600s so trying to exactly pin point a particular ancestor at this time is nearly impossible but I'm working on it.

Lincoln's & Boone's traveled together. Also Henry Skaggs; Hughes; Ellis; Webb from Exeter/Oley, PA. Somewhere I read that there was an elderly black woman that lived till 99-100 that was with one of the families. Traveling from Virginia to Kentucky.

I am related to Nancy Hanks, I was recently diagnosed with Sarcoidosis which is said to be from black family history ... I'm Caucasian, no one else in my family have this disease.... I'm really invested in learning more about our family lineage. We're from Indiana...

I am not an ancestor of Lincoln, but since I was a small boy, Lincoln had always been my favorite president. He read everything as I did when young. My beloved grandfather had a lot of books on Lincoln, and grandfather shared what he had with me. I have loved Lloyd Ostendorf’s book of every photograph made of Lincoln. Lincoln was fascinating to me, and his humanity and humor is something that I have cherished.

My youngest son is related to President Abraham Lincoln from his family that moved to Cape Girardeau Missouri in 1816.. Elizabeth O'Neal and John Linkhorn Lincoln aka Carolina John. My son's grandma on his father's side was born a Lincoln. Ancestry is an incredible tool that can change your life! Two of Paul Revere's daughters are also married into President Lincoln's family so is Daniel Boone's family

Very informative video. Mary Mudd Lincoln and Mordecai Lincoln (President Lincoln's paternal aunt and uncle) were my 3rd great aunt and uncle on the Mudd side of the family. Additionally, my mother's family were from Perry County, Indiana. Her ancestors were neighbors of Tom and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. I was always told that Nancy Hanks Lincoln was illegitimate and that her father was unknown. My own opinion is that Nancy's father was likely a married man. But we'll probably never really know for sure.

A Book by Judge Felix E Alley, "Random Thoughts and the Musings of a Mountaineer". Has some history on Nancy Hanks, Abraham Lincoln and John C Calhoun.

I am a descendant of Lucy Hanks. Despise all the theories, Lincoln's ancestry will never be truly known until his own DNA is tested. Blood exists that could accomplish this. Being an Kentuckian and knowing the culture, my guess is that Lincoln had no idea the identity of his mother's father. That would be something that was hushed up and hoped to be forgotten.

Do you know, are you a descendant of Lucey from her marriage with Henry Sparrow or do you descend from Lucey’s other illegitimate daughter Sarah “Sally” Hanks?

@@kfcky Cool. So you are a close cousin of George Clooney who also descends from Lucey and Henry Sparrow. I descend from Lucey’s brother William Hanks and his wife Elizabeth Hall, my 5th Great Grandparents.

@@RLaidEPeas Probably 3rd or 4th cousins. We both descend from Lucey Hank's daughter, Mary "Polly" Sparrow who married Benjamin Whitehouse. We branch off after that line.

My father's mother's maiden name is Lee from the Ashland, OH area. DNA say's related to Abe Lincoln's great-great aunt; lincoln's great-great grandfather Mordechai Lincoln's sister. I believe the Lee's on Lincoln's mother's side(Virginia) is different from the Lee's in exeter/oley, Pa. & No connection, from a dna study done in 2018, to robert e.lee. LINCOLN'S: Grt-grt-granddad mordechai; grt-granddad john; Granddad Capt.Abraham.

Curious what DNA testing site you used? A lot of Lincoln’s ended up in the Bollinger County Missouri area my ancestry is related to Martha Patsy Lincoln ( sister was Mary) both sisters Married Into the Berry family George and Hirum Berry. I’m said to be the sixth cousin of Abraham Lincoln through this line who came out of Stokes North Carolina Lincoln County. I would like to know the DNA site. My gg grandmother is Rachael Jane Berry buried in Kennett Missouri. Her grandmother was Martha Patsy Lincoln Berry. They have a Lincoln Reunion in the Marble Hill area of Missouri or the general area don’t know much about. Anyone having any information please post thank you.

Very interesting presentation. However, I have a couple questions. What evidence is there to collaborate Lincoln's notion that his maternal grandfather was some prominent Virginian as opposed to some poor farm hand? Ever since I first read about that I wondered if it wasn't just wishful thinking on Lincoln's part. I also think the whole statement bears out his deep hostility to his father as outlined especially by Michael Burlingame. Also, where did the negative quote about William Barton come from? I've read some of his work on Lincoln and found it insightful despite its age. I know Merrill D. Peterson in his Lincoln in American Memory had some negative comments on Barton but it's been so long since I read that book I don't remember exactly what he said. I do believe Barton came up with the evidence that Abraham's parents were legally married and that therefore Abraham and his sister were legitimate contrary to some old tales.

Your view of Nancy Hanks family is not in agreement with that in Ancestors of American Presidents by Gary Boyd Roberts. He took a poll of Lincoln scholars and gives Nancy Hanks as the daughter of Joseph Hanks and Lucy Shipley.

Gary Boyd Roberts, for as brilliant and renowned as his Presidential genealogy research has been got Abraham Lincoln’s Hanks genealogy wrong. His colleague Chris Child at the New England Historic Genealogical Society wrote about this in the Fall 2016 issue of American Ancestors magazine. The article was called “The Hanks DNA Study: I Was Wrong!” Josh’s presentation here is absolutely correct and has been confirmed by mitochondrial DNA

Is Tom Hanks a relative?
@RLaidEPeas Жыл бұрын
Yes, Tom’s 6x Great Grandparents John and Catherine Hanks were also Lincoln’s 2nd Great Grandparents on his mother’s side. That makes Tom Hanks a 3rd cousin, 4 times removed with Abraham Lincoln.
