I am utterly blown away by this interview so let me first say Thankyou. But, more importantly, allow me to point out that this interview makes it so evident how critical are our Lincoln scholars in keeping this country on a right path, not only to understanding Lincoln, but as well all of those supremely important inter-related topics that have a critical bearing on our present and future. Prof. Guelzo is an absolute National Treasure and I’m glad that his words in this interview will never be lost.

I truly enjoy listening and watching Dr. Guelzo's take on anything and everything on the American Civil War. He puts everything into perspective.

Dr. Guelzo is always excellent. It would be good to see he and Victor Davis Hanson sit down together and discuss history and its modern application.

Fascinating. The interviewer led Professor Guelzo down some intriguing pathways. Lincoln still eludes - but Dr. GuelzI WAo has caught much of him in his books and teaching and talks.

I love Dr Guelzo’s comments concerning Lincoln’s supposed growth during his presidency. That’s been such a common theme in my readings about Lincoln and this is the first time I’ve heard that debunked in essence by assigning more credit to Lincoln’s character as a younger man. I love the idea.

Whether or not American school economics was actually good for the country is really subjective, even if it was a turning point. But a good video overall.

Get his Great Courses lectures.

Interviewer Brian Lamb was told by Shelby Foote that historians as a professional group would do well to hone their skills as writers, and let the research follow in due course to find and take its own form naturally. He found plenty of ridiculous personna, circumstances, and quandaries to make fun of, and Guelzo really enjoys poking fun.

Allen Guelzo is an historian and a professor at Gettysburg College. He has written many books and he has a number of lecture courses that are available at the Great Courses and on Audible. He often reads them himself. His primary focus is on Lincoln and the Civil War but he has done wonderful courses on the Revolution and the Founding Fathers, and one called The American Mind that is really well done too. He does have a wonderful voice and his lectures are especially interesting because he always approaches subjects from a slightly different perspective of what you usually get. I have many such courses but his delivery makes him very easy to listen to no matter how challenging the material.
