Facts. I remember Ice T, said one time in an interview that that whe he started making enough money, he moved into a white neighborhood, and the police would go door to door singing Christmas carols. Too many white folks in America expect us to see the police through their eyes and from their experiences, but we like you said our experience with cops might as well be in a different universe.

Very eloquent and non condescending. He speaks like he just understands, not trying to speak because he has to. He doesn’t speak one side to another, he speaks of honest day to day life. Something people turn a blind eye to. After watching him in several interviews he has a way about him that most actors don’t have now adays. A perception and a truth and he speaks like he’s not trying to prove or forced to prove anything. This is life and he speaks about everything that way

I always quote Tim Wise from when he discussed the fact that privilege is what you get to ignore. As a member of ANY majority group, there are things and angles you never have to think about and it goes for whites, men, heterosexual, cisgendered, seeing, hearing, whatever. He was so right and I came to realize that as members of the majority, you are in the driver’s seat, so to speak, and you have huge blind spots trying to tell people who aren’t even in the car what is there and what is not. You don’t realize the calamity you are creating by not shoulder-checking yourself and not even taking their word for it, but continuing on in a foolhardy manner. I remember when I was watching “Hidden Figures” during Taraji P. Henson’s bathroom scene, and I thought: “this is EXACTLY how white privilege and blind spots work!” Here it was at the height of Jim Crow where it was clear to see the “Whites Only” signs, yet a white man was completely oblivious to the fact that a black woman employed by him would have to run across campus to use the restroom because there were no “Colored” bathrooms there. He walked by the “Colored” coffee pot each day. It was obvious, but he still didn’t see it. So, also in the words of Tim Wise, even when it was obvious, you still saw no problem, so now that it is less obvious yet still ever present, you really think we should trust your gauge? Historically, you have been wrong. You need to start listening to us now, and you need to understand that “white privilege” is not an insult anymore than it is an insult to speak of cisgendered privilege or a hearing privilege. It just means there are things you get to ignore, and because you can (and often do), you do not also get to dictate what is valid and what is not.
@universalsoldier2293

In my experience, men generally are oblivious to most things their employees have to endure, regardless of the color of the boss or the employees. I know you're trying to make a point here, but it's probably not the best example.
@winter_s_44
@winter_s_44 5 жыл бұрын
Universal Soldier Wrong. A black man in that position would have no choice but to be aware of the fact that there were no “Colored” restrooms because he too would be unable to use the restrooms in his own building. So, you are wrong. This was a WHITE privilege by a WHITE MALE boss and his color cannot be overlooked. You cannot boil it down to “well, men are oblivious”. No. Men get to be oblivious to all that doesn’t directly effect them (as I said in my original post) and in this case it was twofold: being MALE and being WHITE.
@universalsoldier2293
@universalsoldier2293 5 жыл бұрын
@@winter_s_44 I see the confusion: I was talking about bosses today in 2019, not about the movie. I concede that there is a lot of white privilege going on, but people of any color in power are a problem in my world. It goes to their head, and they tend to be oblivious to the people they are overseeing.

If you see it, then you have to acknowledge it. Then, if you acknowledge it, you have to take a long, honest look within yourself to see the negatives you bring to the table, or the positives you take away. Then, finally, you have to do something about it. Something for the good, which takes hard work and humility. See? Waaaay too much work. Let’s just respond with “Hey! All Lives Matter!”, and go home.🙂

Jackson understands that being a kid no matter what race you are is that kids mess up because they aren't mature at this time. He realized that he had opportunities that would help him economically and the fact that he is white. You must remember that black boys and black men still deal with the same issues whether they are mature or not. The opportunities for them can still be limitless whether he don't graduate from high school or if he obtains a PHD. People see black first, and then, people start to dissect you.
