Cool place looks like a great place to wander. 👍🏻.

it is one of the more perfect places to just plain wander about But you do need to keep your bearings in mind/ a lot of similar terrain and small hills to confuse you!

Brave man... visiting JT in the summer! We did the same in 2018 and basically (like you) had the place to ourselves. Wow, interesting experience regarding the bees. Beautiful place!
@potatothorn3 жыл бұрын
funny to us it was actually really nice weather, a good 15-20 degrees cooler than our spots around death valley! /bees sure were a hassle but did not diminish our great time

We enjoyed the tour, Thorn. We spend two months each winter in Twentynine Palms so are familiar with the park. Lots of fun things to do and see and most of the crowd won't go more than a mile off road. Looks like you hit quite a few cool spots.

I forgot to mention a good book on Joshua Tree if you don't already have it. 'On Foot in Joshua Tree National Park' a comprehensive hiking guide by Patty Furbush. Good stuff!

Cool area. Around the picnic areas, can you camp around there? Nature is so amazing. Cool video
@potatothorn3 жыл бұрын
you can not camp right there, but there are campgrounds not far away- AND you can backpack nearly anywhere in the Park, just hike a mile from the road and you are good to go in most places! you basically just fill out a form and leave a tag on your car, permits are super easy...

Thank you. As a Swede who is not that familiar with heat like this I'm nervous about going in summer. But it's the only vacation option we have and really want to visit! Very good tip to stay in the car and go out in small portions lol. Also planning on doing light hiking before 11 am or so.

carry a lot of ice and wet yourself with a cool washcloth is our favorite thing to do... hiking early is a good idea.. hiking after 530pm is nice too but be sure to take a lamp. glad i could help, have a great trip!
@QueenJaneway2 жыл бұрын
@@potatothorn thank you! Would you carry the ice in like a cooler or so? The washcloth idea is great, I even have one from Japan that is very useful. I suppose you could buy a cheap lamp/flashlight somewhere?
@potatothorn2 жыл бұрын
@@QueenJaneway there are some camping supply stores in the area but they wont be cheap- try and get a headlamp online or near your home and take it along for sure .. yes we have a good cooler to keep ice in but if you are only flying in and going for the few days.. you can buy a cheap cooler at a wal mart or similar store when you arrive for $20-30. get like 20-30 lbs ice for the weekend .... being able to take a piece of ice and rub it on your head when it is hot is so so nice....

@@potatothorn this is so helpful, thanks again! A headlamp isnt that big so I can probably bring that overseas.

Love that place I haven’t been there since I hiked up Quail mountain in 2019. I really want to do the riding and hiking trail that runs across the entire park.

What month did you do? Any tips for hiking in the summer heat when it’s near 100 degrees?
@potatothorn Жыл бұрын
this was July. Carry a gallon of water. Carry a rag you can wet and wipe yourself off with. Do Not Go Far especially if you are not acclimated to being in the heat. 1 mile or less to start. spend a day in 100F doing nothing and see how that feels. I have gone for 3-4 mile relatively flat hikes in 100-105 without problems but above 105F it gets dangerous. Big White Shirt to cover yourself with and a good thick hat. A lot of materials that seem sun proof in 80 degree weather will not protect you from UV in 100+ weather.... good luck!
