Inav users and Developers will tell you to NOT shake the plane and they can argue why this is wrong, you can set an idle throttle to have the visual confirmation that everything is ready and that the auto launch is engaged. Thank you!
@JoshuaBardwell17 күн бұрын
What's the argument against shaking?
@blackbirdboy117 күн бұрын
@@JoshuaBardwell Apparentley it can mess up the I term and cause problems in flight. Much better to add a delay, about 6-10 seconds. Then idle throttle of about 1500. Also decrease your launch angle rate to about 25. You can see its really struggling on launch, dragging its tail. Hope these settings help. As for disarming mid flight, we have all done, twice, so you in good company.
@JoshuaBardwell17 күн бұрын
I set the launch angle to 40 to make sure it cleared the trees 😅
@riccardomerli909417 күн бұрын
It is also fairly dangerous in case you are not careful handling the plane, since when you raise the throttle the motor won’t spin. I usually set the motor idle around 1400/1500 ( this will depend on the aircraft) and launch throttle 150/200us higher. This way the motor will start spinning only when you raise the throttle. This will also help with torque roll in case of a single motor.

To re-arm in flight you can use logic conditions to override arming safety when above a certain altitude or when flying a some speed. It lets you instantly re-arm without switching out of a flight mode and lowering the throttle stick. It saved me a few times and it's less stressfull when you know that you can always re-arm no matter what.

@HermyH6617 күн бұрын
Nice video, but a bad thing to teach your viewers to shake'n bake when autolaunching, it causes iterm wind-up, and can mess up the launch. Just lower the parameters that define autolaunch detection, so it will always detect a launch. Also some idle throttle is good to have, it indicates that autolaunch is ready to go, so you don't have to look in the goggles for that.
@nitro_nicksrc962917 күн бұрын
iNav is lots of fun. I have it in my ZOHD Drift and use autolaunch in the way you set it up eventually. Having it transition to RTH after initial autolaunch is ideal since it gives time to check VLOS that everything is going well before taking off the glasses and putting on the FPV whilst knowing that it is nicely loitering around home and you are not going to ditch it while sorting out all the FPV. Glad you are getting to grips with it and doing some fixed wing flying. I started with multi-rotors, but nowadays basically only fly fixed wing. Mostly VLOS, but I do have the Drift set up as my FPV rig with ELRS. I hope you continue to enjoy your adventures.

I always set up a logic switch to override arming safety if the plane is in 3d motion above a certain speed threshold. This means if I am holding the plane, all the safety checks still apply. But if the plane is flying and I accidentally disarm, rearming takes priority over safety checks.

@illuminatorix "Mr. D Falling With Style" has a great video on setting up inav logic programming. But basically "if" the plane has a 3d motion reading "above" a certain threshold point, arming safety checks are disabled. I'll try and post a link, but usually they block that stuff.
I have totally done that with the disarm😢. I’ve never been able to rearm either Betaflight of Inav. Continuous trim and auto trim are totally different. Just try auto trim, it's very quick to do. Pawel has a very simple video that will make all the difference to your flight. Great videos, I'm loving VTOL
@cagmuer17 күн бұрын
Continuous servo trim only activates when you are in acro mode and only when the sticks are centered. So you take off, switch to acro mode and do some straight lines with hands off the sticks and it will slowly adjust the servo mid points to offset the i-term build up when you are intending to fly straight. When you disarm, it permanently saves the new servo mid points to the FC. You can see this in the OSD when you accidentally disarmed. This also means that the new mid-points are set for all the other modes. Its helpful to leave it on all the time since it can make up for a different CG point with a different battery, maybe your landing gear broke off, maybe part of your elevator broke off, you left your hatch off. Little things like that that can vary form flight to flight.

Hey Bardwell, I literally just won one of these T1 Rangers with vtol from…..well, let’s just call him a great guy. Intrigued by this awesome new toy I won, of course I go straight to watch KZbin videos on it. I have to say, none of the videos I watched, did people have so many issues flying this plane. Of course most of those people used the original fc and original parts and this plane seemed to be an extremely enjoyable and easy plane to fly. What I learned today, was that sometimes it’s better to just stick to the original plans and parts as the designer intended, especially when you’re trying to “teach” newbie’s how to do things correctly.
@JoshuaBardwell17 күн бұрын
You can go back and watch my T1 build video intro where I explicitly say I'm not an expert at planes and am just sort of documenting my process. I made this plane because I wanted to learn about iNav and planes. Having things go wrong and solving problems IS the goal.

@ I’m not doggin on you brother, I did watch you first video yesterday….please don’t take my comment out of context….my point was that you are very good at explaining things and helping newbies out to understand the hobby. I’m definitely not green when it comes to fixed wing aircraft, but I am extremely green when it comes to quads/FPV stuff, and I sure as hell have never built or flown a hybrid VTOL. In fact, if I wouldn’t have won this Hee Wing, I would’ve probably never even considered owning one because of all the issues I hear about transitioning. So, you are one of my two go-to guys when it comes to quads and fpv, and yes I understand your passion for experimenting with different stuff…I’m an engineer, I get it…I just wish(I suppose in my own selfish way a bit, although I’m sure there are others who may agree with me) that for the sake of those of us who aren’t familiar with VTOL aircraft, you could have done a build video of the originally intended build and setup so those of us who don’t know JS about how these work, would be able to build it as intended so maybe we stood a better chance at successfully flying it. Props to you(pun most definitely intended) to you for creating something different and working through the issues, I hope to be that wise with all these different fc boards and components one day. Anyway, sorry if you took my comment the wrong way, I think we’re all here just hoping to learn new stuff from you. Hope you have a great new year and happy flying. ✌️

I've been flying iNav for about 6 months and for autolaunch I first make sure I have my 6 satellites and then with the navigation modes switched off I spin up the motors to make sure I have throttle. Then I flip the switch to launch mode, arm the bird and get ready and then I throttle up the motors(yes, they are spinning) and launch. As soon as the plane gets to the altitude where it comes out of autolanch mode I flip it into loiter mode, go find a comfy place to sit down and don my goggles - I launch line of sight. So far autolaunch has failed only once or twice out of about 100 flights on four (so far) iNav fixed wing birds( I am also running iNav on a few 7" quads but don't like it as much as Betaflight). I am using it on a Zohd Altus, an AtomRC Penguin, a AtomRC Swordfish(flying DJI O3 with Walksnail on the other birds)) and a Reptile Dragon II. The Reptile dragon will carry a 6200mah Lipo and with crossfire and Walksnail on board I've flown it out 3.1 miles before I chickened out(still had solid video and radio link) and hit return to home. I am about halfway through my HeeWing T-1 vTol build and I was gonna use Ardupilot which I understand is a nightmare so your build video using iNav that I already know is freaking COOL! Thanks!

Shaking your plane is not the best way to autolaunch. You can set the amount of force needed to activate the launch throttle in the gui. Darren Lines, or Mr.D "falling with style" has some really great info on the subject, and also some online tools to optimize your settings based on weight and thrust.

You need to calibrate your ESCs in INAV, then set idle throttle to 1250 or so, then as others have said DO NOT SHAKE IT. If its not launching for you, you need to go into the CLI and turn the launch accel, launch time and velocity lower. 40 degrees is extremely steep, generally, 30 degrees is considered very steep.

Shaking the plane isnt necessary. You can set your idle in the auto launch settings high enough that it will take off fine when you throw it. Most planes need about 75%+ but whatever works for you. Also i have mine set up so that i flip it into loiter after it gets up high enough to clear the trees. So im just used to flipping that switch and getting my goggles on and comfortable before i fly.

Are you planning on trying out the autoland? You'll probably need to add a lidar but they are cheap. I haven't tried out the feature yet because I don't really have a nice area where I'd be comfortable trying it on purpose. But from what I've seen it's super advanced now. You can define a runway in the configurator and its will loiter above, check the wind and then fly a proper circuit and landing. I'd love to see a video like that.

One thing that helps against accidental disarm is my disarm switch has a *foam plug* on it. So I can get tactile sensation if I'm touching that switch or not. Still, it could happen with an accidental bump.

I do like how the OSD clearly demonstrates the benefits of a wing vs multirotor for loitering / The Battery was already reporting less than 3.3 V per cell upon initial takeoff. Battery jumps right back up to 14.8 / 3.7 v / c upon transition. I would probably take this into consideration upon landing, Try to make your landing as quick as possible or you are going to destroy your batteries pretty quickly. (posted right as he was saying the battery was spec'd with a c rating for a wing) ha. WAIT TILL THE END BEFORE YOU COMMENT ME> ohh well, either way the point stands if flying vtol, of course landing is going to pull a lot less current upon landing, but you should probably come down fairly swiftly and don't try to hover at all upon landing.
