I always fly my TinyWhoop Meteor 75 in angle mode indoors because acro was just too much for me. However, after following these steps, I now fly acro indoors without even realizing I'm in acro mode! This has made such a difference. I see rates as the 'frequency' between your hands and your brain, and by adjusting the rates, you tune the correct frequency." Thanks Joshua.

I eventually settled on 'Betaflight rates' rather than 'Actual rates'. They are as follows: *Roll/Pitch/Yaw, RC rate: 1.70 *Roll/Pitch/Yaw, Rate: 0.50 *Roll/Pitch/Yaw, RC expo 0.00. (Max. Vel. (deg/s) 680) I mostly fly the Air65F and the Air75 with these Rates.✌🏼

Been flying sim for about 12hrs now, just using "recommended" rates from random google searches. Decided to give this a go, and within less than an hour, I'm already feeling infinitely more precise and smooth than in all those 12 hours. It was almost like a switch flipped. I can hit gaps with such better precision, turns are smoother, not overcorrecting/undercorrecting as much. Still by no means an expert pilot, but I'm feeling so much more confident. Great description of the compromises and transitions between fine control rates in the centre of stick range and the need for higher rates for snap moves at the extremes of stick range. Human reaction times are going to be a key part of the upper end of both of those rates for any individual. FPV flying is primarily VISUAL and visual reaction times are slightly slower than those for touch and sound. Visual reaction times have been reported in the range 190-250 milliseconds, with XY genotype faster than XX, and people who exercise tending to be faster than those who are more sedentary. (Whether that is cause, or effect is unclear.) Came to essentially the same understanding and tuning of centre and full deflection rates before I saw the video.

this is a great video, learning all of the aspects of controlled flight I believe it makes you a “more safe pilot” . I had to change my rates for my phantom four because in sport mode if you go to fast tweaks out the gimbal so they allow you to make profiles. I really enjoy the way my DJI inspire flies even though it’s an older drone and it’s not an FPV it’s still fun to fly, I used my rates from my DJI inspire and transfer them over to my DJI phantom four and it flew exactly the same. It’s fixed my problem with the phantom for being real twitchy. I’m more of a slow controlled cinematic type drum pilot I don’t do flips or acrobats of any kind. I just drive them at full throttle and have fun with it.

I did some of the same testing. It was nice to use my actual TX in the sims to discover my rates, then took them to the real world for further testing. I will agree with the two commentors above, though. All the sims have their quirks. They don't quite match reality. It's going to be a while before that happens. Unless you are doing full CFD style modeling around an accurately defined complete quad it is hard to make it fly just like the real thing. Maybe one day.
@sunsetpark_fpv2 жыл бұрын
@@mjodr What does "full CFD style modeling around an accurately defined complete quad" refer to? I am lost LOL
@mjodr2 жыл бұрын
@@sunsetpark_fpv When programming the physics engines for these games they have to make compromises on how everything works. They are approximating the physics of the real world with some shortcuts that gets you pretty close, but not all the way. When you do aerodynamic work you can run CFD on it, but it's very expensive hardware wise and slow. It can't work at 60 fps for example. So we are not able to accurately model all the complex things happening to the air around the props and airframe. The physics of the hard parts is easier, but they probably aren't as detailed as the real thing either. If devs are willing to keep going they could make some stunningly accurate simulators assuming the hardware horsepower is there. This is a fascinating topic explored in depth in the classic flight simulator world. X-plane and MS Flight Sim use completely different models for how the air flows over the airframes and it's amazing to read into it. You might think they could just use that technology for a quad sim, but I don't think it would translate very well and they too are using a lot of shortcuts to get to the desired result. For example, the physics simulation can run at a slower pace than the graphics rendering so that it has enough time to act, but that's not how things work in the real world obviously.

Just for reference, everybody's thumbs are different. For example, I run 230 deg/sec on roll, 300 deg/sec on pitch and 600 deg/sec on yaw with 55 % expo on all axis. This is really really low. However I can pull 14 second laps on Multigp GQ 2022. Freestyle is possible with these rates, you just have to be more commited and deliberate with the inputs.
@ericcoker87842 жыл бұрын
JB, I learned something today! This video needs to be in a catalog for anything RC that is airborn. An Educational Tool. Coming from collective pitch helicopters, there was only "rate" and "expo" for the Aileron, Elevator, and Rudder. Then pitch and throttle curve...lol Rate was speed and expo was center stick sensitivity. The ability to manage the collective was determined by LOS and what was perceivable by one's "hand eye" coordination, lol. Usually all my smaller Blade helis needed zero "expo" and higher rates due to the slop in the swashplate. Larger Blade helicopter stuff had less slop in the swashplate, soo, maybe 10% expo and rates less the 100%. Now, if the servos, linkage and swashplates are "precise", rates can be 125% and expo at 25%. So I kinda get what is happening. But every one different. Thanks again for the video!
