Hi Joshua, have you done a video on how to set up mix channels on Spektrum radio, in my case DX6i, so I can get more of the Betaflight modes? I'm a bit confused by that.

I don't have a Spektrum radio, sorry. And the one time I tried to set up Aux modes on a friend's radio, I couldn't get it working. At least not while at the field. Probably if I had had the Internet I could have.
@Clif_Brown8 жыл бұрын
No problem. I'm beginning to dislike the older Spektrum stuff I have and will just use the DX6i for the Horizon/Blade devices that work with it. Seems like for the Betaflight systems I've tried it with, the Spectrum has been flakey. I have Flysky and Spektrum now but seems like FrSky is the most reliable protocol out there. Been trying to hold off on a new radio but guess I'll have to pony up for a FrSky radio. I have a pre-order from Horus for the new Taranis Q X7 radio, whenever that shows up. All the best in the New Year!

Air Mode is not a mutually exclusive mode. It stacks. Enabling or disabling air mode doesn't change whether you are in acro mode or not.

Hey Josh, I know this doesn't really relate to this video, but seeing your Taranis reminded me to ask. Since the Taranis comes with endpoints going from 975-2015, should you adjust the bottom and top ends to hit 1000-2000? Are you losing resolution by leaving it stock? I think I am as I had to go a few clicks up (haven't removed the ratchet yet) on throttle before it revs up past idle.

Joshua, a question for you: Beeper/buzzer in Modes and Beteflight in general. Every quad I've hooked up the beeper on from QX70 to X220 and they act the same. They beep *too* much. They beep the little song on battery plug in, beep for everything like stick movements, switch movements etc. and is very annoying. I want to configure the beeper so that it ONLY comes on from the Modes switch for lost model use. I don't see any beeper configuration settings in the Betaflight UI that would achieve what I want. I figure you if anyone, would know. Thanks!

Hi Josh. I got myself a wizzard x220s. I finnaly set it up, so it flys excellent. The thing I don't know is, how to set it to Acro mode? I guess the Air mode would be similar to Acro? I used only a few batteries until now, so I didn't have time to try all modes, I've flew only in STAB mode, as it says on fpv gogles, I gues this is horizon mode? Thanks
@nyclassic4ever1303 жыл бұрын
Maaaaaan, all I need to know is how to add the Angle mode. In other words when I look in betaflight it doesn't show three modes as in Angle, horizon, etc. Just shows Horizon with two settings on and off. Ok, so how then do I get Angle mode???
@cpt_Ruckus7 жыл бұрын
Great video, I'm wondering tho lets say we have two 3 stage switches... say switch1 is used to arm the quad. Can we setup switch2 to behave/trigger certain actions depending what position switch 1 is in ? For example if switch 1 is in the disarmed position, switch2 can toggle the beeper and/or beeper + LED's. However if switch1 is in the armed position, switch2 is now used to toggle flight modes.. I've come across some small form factor transmitters which don't include many switches, although I love the game controller form factor. The lack of the switches really is the only thing that deters me from purchasing.
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
If the transmitter is computerized, it may have the ability to set up conditional mixes like this. I know that OpenTX can do it easily. (Well, easy for OpenTX. Maybe not so easy for you to set up.) I'm not sure whether Betaflight can do it internally.

Hi, is it possible to add self leveling to the Headfree mode in Betaflight? In case I don't have video in the goggles anymore due to many obstacles and thus try to get the drone closer to me.
@JoshuaBardwell6 жыл бұрын
Sure. You can have angle and headfree on at the same time.
@furuleviFPV6 жыл бұрын
And how to do that? ...because now it behaves like in acro mode.

I would personally just set it up with angle and headfree ranges overlapping in the Modes tab. But I don't fly in headfree so there could be some interaction I'm not aware of.

Hey Joshua, thank you for taking the time to provide us with so much information. I wonder if I can pick your brain. I just updated my LUX board in CF and not knowing how or that I needed to save my settings first I'm putting everything back but I can't get the arm to work. I'm putting it on a switch and when I save it it works in CF but the quad won't run and when I return to Modes the range has changed. I'm sure I'm missing a detail somewhere and I don't understand why a saved range would change. Thank you.
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
I also don't know why a saved range would change. Usually if stuff in the configurator is not saving, it means you're using an older version of betaflight on a newer configurator.

I setup a 3 way switch with nothing, GPS Rescue, and Failsafe. GPS Rescue worked fine and then when I tried Failsafe the quad tumbled out of the sky to the ground. I should've know but at least nothing was broken and I've since removed it. I then tried again leaving the switch to GPS Rescue alone, and the quad returned near home, came down, went up, came down, went up, and kept getting lower to the ground. That said, if you leave the switch to GPS Rescue, is it supposed to RTH, come down the designated meters, and hold position? I'm wondering if it was going up/down because of motor idle speed and if it can just hover in place since it could be nice to reposition yourself, adjust goggles, etc, if you know it will hold approximate position.
@JoshuaBardwell3 жыл бұрын
It does not hold position. You must switch back to arm and take control.

Hey brother, I'm new to drones. My question is simple, some of the flight modes kind of sound the same or are a bit confusing to me just yet. What is THE BEST mode to fly without developing bad habits. Acro, Air, Rate? I do plan on having Horizon or Headless modes to let the grandkids try for a second or two. Thanks for all the videos. I did learn something today!!! Building my 1st quad. Matek F722STD, Spedix 30A HV BLHeli_S, Tarranis QX7, Betaflight, ZMR250 frame One more question since I'm here. Battery: on top or bottom? Is there really a difference?
@JoshuaBardwell6 жыл бұрын
Most FPV pilots fly in Acro mode, which is what is active when you simply Arm and don't have Angle or Horizon mode active. Air Mode is not really a Flight Mode. It's an option that can be on or off in any mode. I always fly with air mode on because it increases authority at low throttle. But it can make landing hard for some people. There is a difference in handling between top and bottom mount battery. For beginners I recommend top mount because you're not landing on your battery.

Josh, PLEASE HELP! My FrSky Taranis Q X7S (SE Carbon Fiber) is having an issue with my channel mapping for my aux 3 position switches. When a 3-pos switch is down, its reading 1000us, and at the middle position and the up position it is reading 1500us. When I am on the home screen of the taranis, it does show that the switch reads down, level, up for all of the switches in question, but there seems to be a disconnect. If I hold the menu button and page to page 8/9 "HARDWARE" then it shows that the SA and SB are correctly identified as "3POS". Anything you think I'm missing here?
@JoshuaBardwell6 жыл бұрын
In the Mixer screen, I think you have set the Switch parameter equal to the switch you are using. This isn't the right way to do it. Doing it that way makes the mix only active when the swtich is in a given position. What you want is SRC parameter equal to the switch (e.g. SF, SA, SB whatever switch you are using) and the SWITCH parameter to be blank.

Betaflight 3.1 will have the ability to remap outputs properly. In everything previous, you are not really remapping the outputs, you are just rearranging where the FC believes the motor is located. Hope this makes sense haha the quad is ready to go, just waiting for day light to try it out. Thanks, your videos are great btw!
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
That's close enough. Don't sweat a few microseconds. If you hit 1002 consistently, then set min_check=1010 in the CLI to eliminate deadband at the bottom of the throttle.
@Sean-tn5nv8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for that, is that just to allow for some 'breathing room' as apposed to setting it to say 1005? I assume I can also do set max_check=1999? Thanks Joshua
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
+thesean 5 exactly. A tiny bit of breathing room to make sure you can arm.

Hello, i need your help if possible. I use until now the CC3D controller but i whant to next level. What is a nice flight controller to Betaflight. Thnaks
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
Omnibus F4 Pro if you want an AIO. Betaflight F3 if you want an AIO with integrated PDB. Rotorgeeks SSD if you want an FC without OSD or PDB.

noob beta user here, my setup seems all good, but i want to fly in auto level mode, which is all setup, but the little drone simulator screen is bbahving like its in acro mode, does betaflight even show the drone as being auto leveled?
@JoshuaBardwell6 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't do that.
@bartsshorts6 жыл бұрын
well thats pretty silly isn't it, for hours now ive been trying to get the drone preview simulator thing to show me its auto leveling, and your telling me it will auto level in flight but not in the preview window? seems betaflight need to get their patching skills out.
@JoshuaBardwell6 жыл бұрын
That little preview is just intended to verify that your channels are moving the quad the right direction. They don't interact with autolevel or acro trainer at all. I think the BF devs don't think about autolevel very much.

If you want to make a feature request, creating a new Issue on the Betaflight github repo is the correct way to do it.

Thanks for this, im 6 weeks into this racing quad thing and its so complex, only had a few minutes of flight so far, and doing the tests is like putting £100+ in the microwave to see what happens. So far I fried my ESC and replaced them, wasnt my fault the previous owner put EMax Nano firmware onto Emax lighning ESC's and when I tried to put the right firmware on they smoked, so yea avoid the Emax lightning esc's, the problem is the esc came out before cleanflight etc and ive found a lot of the lightning firmware isnt even recognised so its a minefield of problems, keep away.

Woah! Can you provide links to the parts used in making your micro quad?
I would like my 'Armed' program so that I have to use two switches. (in a AND function) So you need to activate both switches The idea is you can almost not armed the quad by mistake. Is this possible. Ohhh My transmitter (RADIO) is a Futaba T8FG SBUS receiver and a FC X-racer V3.1
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
I don't know if your transmitter can do this. If your transmitter can sum channels together, set both channels to 50% weight and then arm when the channel goes to 100%--something like that. You will need to play with the weight and offset, but basically you want each channel to go from -100 to 0. Just setting to 50% weight will make it go from -50% to +50% so I'm not sure that alone will produce what you want. Play with it. A workaround that I like is to raise the throttle AFTER disarming. This will prevent arming if you accidentally flip the switch since the copter will not arm if the throttle is above min_check. However if you do this, be aware that the copter WILL arm the moment you lower the throttle, if the arm switch is flipped. There is no way I can think of in CleanFlight to make an AND logic for a mode. You can do OR logic of course by overlapping ranges.

You may use a DualRate or MIX switch on your transmitter to program the 50%-100% Joshua is talking about. This is what I do on my Spektrum DX6i : Gear switch gives 0/50 when Mix switch is low, and 0/100 when Mix switch is high => So both Gear and Mix need to be high to give 100 (= Armed in my Cleanflight).

Hi Teacher. I've just finished my rooster build. Finally I've used your 2.0 FC. But The 5v- beeper doesn't Work. At The moment, The FC was connected by USB, I've been created The Mixer in my Taranis "Switch D"(Ch7), and Aux3 in Betaflight Beeper Mode, but when I change this switch...a green light blinks on FC but nothing happens. Could The issue be caused by not enough power supply? I was wondering if I need to plug a Lipo... What do you suggest Teacher? Evans

None of my AUX were responsive in betaflight; been sleepless about this. In the end a firmware downgrade to the previous version solved all my problems.
@JoshuaBardwell7 жыл бұрын
+Laurent there's no reason you have to resort to that. If it works on an older version them your transmitter is set up correctly. Check the value of max_aux_channels.

After several hours of dicking around with the switches, flight modes.... I get it! Or should I say "I got it!" Is there any way I can control the sensitivity of the sticks? You might want to turn on a dime! If I were to push on a stick, I want to go "Easy does it" till I get the hang of it and then bump the settings up as the comfort level raises. A million and 1 videos, some are poor and inaccurate. I'm sticking with yours , Painless360 and I think the other is called Flight Test

+red five fpv I'm pretty sure I didn't have the flight battery attached. USB can't spin motors.
@SeanDuffyProductions8 жыл бұрын
Are there actually people who remove props every time they connect to the configurator? I just take them off when I'm calibrating ESCs.
@ZeroFPV8 жыл бұрын
Some Flightcontrollers won't provide 5V for the receiver when they are only powered via USB. So you might have to connect the flight battery to see something move in the RX tab.
@JoshuaBardwell8 жыл бұрын
+ZeroFPV in that case, props should be off.
@SeanDuffyProductions8 жыл бұрын
ZeroFPV Yeah my rule is I take the props off if the flight battery is plugged in, which I've only ever done to calibrate new ESCs.
