Wow I'm stunned by the comment section!! I am new to the quad world and while I daydream about CRSF and Ghost, my QX7S and RXSR's seem solid so far.....I think I got in at a good time though, AFTER the Frsky wars - most Frsky problems are CURRENTLY solved, I have full telemetry on my 2 F4 FC's - and yes, it was a PITA to search through videos and try different solder connections, but my 4 quads work just fine (for my current flying ability). The BIGGEST PITA that I had (more than once) was after upgrading a new RX to the 2.1.0 firmware, I couldn't put the RX into bind mode, and the workaround that accidentally solved this was to flash the 1.1.4 FW and then the 2.1.0 FW after. This worked both times. Anyway - thanks JB - great review as always.

The R9mx and R9mm/mini OTA receivers also update over the air. I think the Archer series just makes this available now for 2.4. You only need to “register” once using the button. After this you can bind just by plugging in. If you switch remotes you can share the pairing and not have to use the button to register the second time.
@daemn424 жыл бұрын
Maybe test to see if you can do only the Reg, and then update the firmware before bind. If that works, and reg were a simpler handshake then it might alleviate the can't bind due to version mismatch issue.

I think, if you started upgrading the receiver without having first bound the receiver, what receiver would it try to send the upgrade to? Any random quad that is going to be plugged in the vicinity? Imagine someone doing that at the start of a race o.O. It makes sense that you can only upgrade after being bound or at least registering the receiver. That being said, i went over to crossfire a week ago and actually i didn't need to press anything on the receiver to bind it to my radio, i simply used TBS Agent X to bind it.
@JoshuaBardwell4 жыл бұрын
The way Crossfire and Ghost work you have to manually press the bind button to allow the update if you have not previously bound it. But if you have previously bound the RX, you can update the firmware without pressing the button. FrSky does not give you the option to force a bind/update by pressing the button. You must successfully register first, which I'm not sure you can do if you have mismatched firmware.

I think F.Port causes problems with FrSky stuff cause when I used S.Bus I never had any issues. you have to regster before you can bind, once you register you can then share it around to different radios too. i got two of these Rx, plenty of range with the X-lite pro Tx (no ext antenna) for freestyle. BTW, it's not good practice to have Rx close to Tx, specially 900 mhz

Provided you didn't have go through re-flashing an R-XSR, it was a good little short range receiver, so its nice to have the (cheaper than crossfire) Archer RS as a short range alternative to crossfire that seemingly will bind/update trouble free. IMO, for micros, and other quads you won't take beyond a parking lot, playground, or yard, 2.4GHz ACCESS is great, and doesn't require me to screw in the crossfire antenna. Beyond that - crossfire only...and my X9D+2019SE has been a trouble-free workhorse (once I figured out how to re-flash Open TX for crossfire support)

Hey Joshua Bardwell, I don't know if there's other people who have pointed this out or not, but something I believe you forgot to mention in the video is that, unlike the XM+, the Archer M+ supports telemetry, and also does technically have a small solder pad on the bottom for inverted S.Port. The only real difference between the M+ and the RS that I can really see is that the RS has diversity, and the S.Port pad is broken out so it's easier to solder to. Also, I was wondering if you've tested binding different controller/transmitter firmware versions and different receiver firmware versions to see if there was any trouble binding?

Just wanted to point out that the M+ does have an inverted sbus pad on the backside of the receiver. I also have the Cidora SL5 6s but I have had 5 2207 1800kv motors separate there bellhousing in under 30 days and not because of crashing. The only time it crashed is when the bellhousing separated and shorted out the wires. One of them literally exploded the bell house ripped off and magnets flew everywhere the frame was fine and the prop stayed on and was fine WTH. That motor only had 4 packs flown through it. The hobby shop said they were aware of the issue that xing had a bad batch of motors but I am done with Xing E 2207 1800kv motors. The hobby shop did replace everyone of them for free. I ended up getting the Xing unibell 2208 1800kv motor and the hobby shop even gave me a free one. I have not had a single issue with the Xing unibell there great. They said I just had bad luck and I must have found every bad motor from the batch. It was very discouraging because the Cidora was my first 5 inch quad I thought I was doing something wrong. I have never had a hard crash because I fly in a 7 acre open field and I did all my noob crashing on a smaller quad. Anyway I have heard great things about the xing e motors but I had a nightmare of an experience and I will never use them again. On a plus side I got really good at taking my Cidora apart and soldering motors to it. I love your videos there very helpful THANKS FOR WHAT YOU DO.

I think that it is enough to only register the receiver. Then you can update it with OTA functionality. My experience is that any receiver, bought as ACCESS, there already was suitable firmware for OTA on it. If you have ACCST radio and non Archer ACCESS receiver, flash suitable ACCST firmware (EU LBT or FCC) on it and that's it. I'm R9 user and for that, flash your R9 with Flex firmware (no matter being ACCST or ACCESS), flash your receiver with Flex firmware and that's it. At least for ACCESS, at binding, you have options to bind using 868MHz OR 915MHz and after binding, then further options to select any output power, Fport, Sbus, ppm and more.
@JoshuaBardwell4 жыл бұрын
But can you register with mismatched firmware?
@mihavuk4 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaBardwell I never tried. I can't say. I'm in EU so if I'd buy it from eu store, it'd come with EU LBT firmware on it. If I'd buy it from China, I'd always flash EU LBT firmware on it. On ACCST, I was always flashing EU LBT Fport firmware on xm+ or r-xsr. For R9 ACCST I'd always use Flex firmware on both of course, module and receiver. For ACCST, I'd have to flash flex Fport on receiver. With ACCESS, there is less worries for sure, you just flash flex firmware on R9 module and receiver and you are ok for sure since you select frequency at binding and then all further options (output power, Fport, sbus, ppm etc) in menue - under options right where you were you have output power, selecting receiver and then options gives you further options for sbus, Fport, ppm etc.

Maybe I'll put archer on my whoop but r9 coming off other quads and crossfire going on. My R9 itself worked great after firmware problems except my antenna broke a few times which they should
@fbi0634 жыл бұрын
I have an x9 lite and I bought an r9m module (EU-LBT), because the crossfire doesn’t fit without some hardware adjustments. I am not a novice, but the experience to bind it with the flex firmware has been a real nightmare. And I can understand why people prefer to get crossfire instead. I think that FrSky should do a step ahead if want to save some market share.

@jana1714 жыл бұрын
@Joshua bardwell You actually can do the OTA update without the Bind, but you have to Register it. Cool stuff is that when i had this R9MX that was on different firmware(and region) than the R9MLP, Bind was not possible, Registrering was, and OTA still worked... no soldering needed... after the OTA update it would bind too(ofc) 😀
@JoshuaBardwell4 жыл бұрын
If the firmware is mismatched like 1.9 vs. 2.X, can you still Register?
@jana1714 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaBardwell I was not able to bind before I actually OTA updated the R9MX, so for sure there was a firmware mismatch, but might only have been FCC vs LBT. This video shows it at 08-00... REG, then OTA Flash, Then BND : kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHjKanyspJl0Y5I

its all about trust, most people like myself that r9mini and r9mm, it felt like we was using beta stuff with random RXLOSS i am not bothered about OTA, i just want it to just bind and work, and keep working, like most, just want that, OTA is nice when it works, but all the defected RX's and bad vregs that step down to 3.3v being sensitive to noise, all my r9 stuff is currently in a box, and support from frsky is non, i have a frsky x lite that will not power off, i can trick it to turn on, but you have to pull the battery to turn it off, support was non, even sent me a link to a replaced board for the wrong pad, i have gone CF and do fine that OTA can fail but the recovery thing tends to work, but the two main things, when its updated it just works and keeps working, and when i had a bad nano, cf just send me a replacement the same day, without people like me buying the stuff and lovely people like you showing it to others, the people making the stuff would not be making any money, the first thing frsky need to start doing is offering real support, they need to fix that, if anyone from frsky reads this, any update on any help for the xlite ??

I've been running access on everything for a little over a year. Been doing in on R-XSR, switched over all my stuff to the RS when it came out August... so this video is a bit of old news. The M+ has been out for even longer. The latency junk is massive and well worth it. We should be seeing a 4ms firmware shortly. I do agree though that this was the worst roll out every.
