in my opinion, on kiss, an RC deadband of 10/10/20, tpyically will eat any center jitter and smooth out any forward flight jitter from lack of rc smoothing

I knew it!! I've been telling people if they want Betaflight to fly like KISS most of what you need to do is reducing input/RC filtering DRAMATICALLY. Basically Auto Smoothness Factor of like 1-5 and its amazing how much it starts to fly like KISS.

What I've learned from flying and watching FPV vids is that it is nearly impossible to tell how a quad flies by watching a video. I've seen JB's vids where he says, 'the latency is almost unflyable', or 'this feels so locked in', or 'this quad feels waaaay too heavy' ... and all the videos look the same. I have no doubt that they feel different, but it's nearly impossible to tell from watching the video. However, the one big variable that you can use to differentiate from watching a video is ... how do the motors sound? And these motors sound great. So yeah, you can have a great flying KISS-based quad. And I'm sure there are Betaflight-based quads that fly better than the one in this video. I guess the point is that it seems like it might be easier to get to 'a great flying quad' with KISS than with Betaflight? But that the reason is probably more due to conservative defaults by the Betaflight devs, more than any real KISS magic? The other concern is that there is a bit of ego involved - Mark Spatz wants to show that he can tune a Betaflight quad to fly as good as (or better than) a KISS-based quad. For me, (in addition to JB's test, which should provide some useful information) I would like to see a test between two quads - one with KISS and one with Betaflight, flashed to defaults and given to a pilot with 1.5 years of experience. He should then set up and get the quads flying good. Then, to test them, have some pilots do blind testing of the two quads to see how they fly. It's very imperfect, but maybe you get some information about which is easier to get flying well? I am not Mark Spatz, and I don't do black-box analysis. I build a pretty solid quad, make the tune a bit more aggressive and I tell myself I've done a great job and just get flying. But my motors do not sound like the ones in the video. (Now, with all of that said, you absolutely _can_ see when a quad is poorly tuned. Propwash, throbbles and being underpowered are very visible in unstabilised footage. And, because I'm familiar with JB's videos, I can assume that the uptilt was a bit higher than JB's normal setup as he appeared to be flying faster than usual. But that's not really interesting information).

My Kiss v2 flies SO damn good, but I still prefer betaflight. I hate the closed source garbage, and I like to be able to fix my own gear if I can, because let's face it - this stuff isn't getting any cheaper so if I can save it all the better. If the MCU goes on a Kiss or Fettec board - there is no replacing the chip and flashing, like with BF. And if your Ultra goes down, good luck getting a new one right now.

@@alexanderfedorov7890 I have Kiss build and BF(don't have ultra). I prefer BF. I even tested the Kiss on the same quad that I run BF. It doesn't fly as good. It's not APEX so presets are not there for me and the lack of black box is just not helping. Will probably try the utra in the future if its not just a hype but I doubt that. The recipe for kiss is same build with presets(apex). :D

Hey I have a problem maybe u can solve it Have a 4 in one esc using 2207 2750kv motors and at 1050 min value they started to twitch(not spin and stop when the value is to low, they spin but they are super sputtery) I know it isn’t a motor problem and when I use the throttle control in betaflight they are super smooth and don’t get hot. I lowered it to 920 and they spun fine but as I throttled up they started to sputter. Also one motor is spinning slightly fater than the others. Any tips? Im not sure if its D value.

Looks nice but you can make betaflight fly this well no problem, and I can't see getting into a FC ecosystem where part availability is so poor. If I can't get the fleet on it, it's not worth it. If I lose an FC and can't replace it for 7 months, it's not worth it. If my betaflight FC I like is out of stock, I can get a random mamba f411 to hold me over. Can't do that with Ultra.

The "official" answer seems to be that you have to join the discord, then wait for an announcement of stock arrival on the discord, then rush to the store and try to get some before they sell out. They come back into stock periodically, but you're unlikely to find them unless you follow this process.

The felling absolutely not about kiss... Just try any f405 succex for example and load emuflight on it, feathered pids to 0, and all other useless stuff in the right column on pid tuning tab except iterm relax and I decay. Raise D to about 42-45, and tune P. Tune dynamic rates from freestyle preset, turn off tpa and spa(100), turn off static filters on gyro, set dterm filter to biquad 120-130hz, choose 2pass mixer and turn on throttle linearization. You'll get a perfect quad with no propwash and also it won't sag down on yaw movements. You'll never want betaflight anymore...

@@alexanderfedorov7890 I have a friend of mine with kiss a fc... for almost a year his drone didn't want to fly properly, because stock pids didn't work for him, so he had to tune all filters and pids by himself without any help and without any startpoint. As for the easy way you could come to the local drone shop and order any build you want and they will also tune it for you and after you brake it they will repair it, but that does cost money. There is no "osd" chip. Graphical osd is generated by SAME H7 cpu that also runs flight code.

Wow. If you didn't find issues you wouldn't be doing your job but you had to nitpick in slo mo to find something. I don't fly KISS. Karate was OK for me but not this good without a couple of packs and some blackbox changes. Competition is great because we win. Way to go KISS.

I didn't have to nit pick in slow mo. I noticed it first during a livestream when I was showing off the footage and the livestream called it out. I put it in slow mo because I knew many viewers don't know what to look for and would just be like what is he talking about. Do you not see it in the regular footage? If I don't call it out then people dog pile me saying I'm giving kiss a pass and shilling. So I'm just gonna keep doing my thing.

The biggest problem with POPO motors is that if the props are not made just right, the props rip off and the balls get jammed up with plastic and they just don't work. Basically you have to use HQ props or Lumenier props only.

@@JoshuaBardwell oh wow that i didnt know. I have POPO motors on both my quads. Havnt flown in almost a year due to buying a house and the subsequent move then it got cold outside. I will have to go through my props and see what brands i have.

I don't see myself buying flight controllers where I can't check and if necessary adjust to software to my needs. less specifically: the hobby to me has always been about an approach where we try to help each other and share our knowledge to get better - and the recent successes of elrs and edgetx, but also the huge success that is clean-/beta-flight/inav, or the opensource firmwares we run on most esc, just underline that this spirit is good for our hobby.

@@PeterPetermann Same way as closed source doesn't stop you from FLYING. You have your preference, some people do not care whats inside, they want to fly. Thats what its all about, and not about how great it is inside. But you open source guys are one sided... Only OS is good, rest is evil. :) People choose what they like. Thats the beauty - DIVERSITY. Imagine u have one BETAFLIGHT and thats it. ;) How wonderful will it be? I am joking. I do have bit of code i made in betaflight too :)
