1 Dollar Fancy Mac and Cheese | But Cheaper

The average cost of fancy mac and cheese is 7 bucks and above. Obviously, storebought is much cheaper, but making your own oven mac and cheese with multiple kinds of cheese can be done for as little as 1 dollar per serving. And it's better than 99 percent of the other mac and cheeses out there. Take it or leave it bud.

Yeah, there's plenty of ways to make the per serving price even lower, like buying ingredients in bulk from a wholesaler. Per serving price is useless, other than to gather clicks... :/

Think of it like monthly shopping. Save up to a ballpark amount around 'x' times the serving price here, then go do that shopping. Now you don't have to buy food for like, a month.

@@Virginiafox21 Yes he does. But again, he's only putting in the price *per serving.* It'd be nice to know what portions he got so that we can adjust which sized pasta and cheeses are best for us.

If you're into fish, a can of tuna, or leg style surimi chopped into half inch lengths goes really well with this recipe. Or even better if you want to get fancy: lobster! Optionally you can add diced tomatoes and onions and top it off with black pepper and old bay seasoning for an extra explosion of flavor. The umami is off the charts!

Made this tonight for a Christmas dinner at a friend’s house. All their adult kids were raving about the mac & cheese, and even commenting about how it made just the right sound. As a personalization, I did 2 cups cream and 2 cups milk (a bit more expensive, but a whole lot richer), and I adjusted the seasoning level with MSG instead of salt. Everything else was right on with Joshua’s recipe.

So I made this Mac n cheese and followed this recipe, not only did it turn out DELICIOUS, but I used Medium shell pasta, and the cheese sauce sinks into the shells so you get the delicious coating of the cheese and then biting into the Mac n cheese you get these gooey creamy pockets of cheese and just… 😤😤 AAAHHH SO F**KING GOOD

Made this for my son tonight after tasting one of the blue box ones last month. It was a horror of salt and fake. Yours, however, was delightful. And quick and easy. I think I'll add some freshly grated parmesan next time, just a little. I had to leave out the thyme. Anything with herbs in it gets a "What's that?" with an accusatory finger pointing out the offending tiny bit in the dish. We'll try a few thyme leaves next time, though.

My biggest trouble when making Mac & cheese is just.... I tend to make the sauce too thick. I like box Mac on the dry side, so getting the proportions right so it's flowy when hot but thicc when cold is definitely a learning process for me
