Hi - your tips are so helpful. The piece you are playing at 1:21 is absolutely beautiful. I'm not familiar with it and never caught the name/composer. Could you please tell me what piece you're playing?

Great advice - reassures me immensely. Something else I find helpful in a similar vein is to keep putting things back in context - so if practising one specific difficult measure at least 3 or 4 times to go back a good few measures to make sure the problem is fixed when it is back in context. I noticed that often when I have mastered an awkward section on its own, whenever I then played from the beginning the error would come back if I didn’t specifically practice in context a few times

I love how you actually take a new perspective on this. There is not one perfect way to practice, theres a lot of kinds of practice you need to learn a piece. For me it is in the end the love for the piece itself that makes me able to play it.

It’s great to hear about this again, I’m also one of those people that doesn’t play through enough :) Before covid, I was taking part in amateur piano recitals and always found it most effective when I had at least 5 days before where I knew it well enough to play through a few times fully each day (ideally scattered throughout the day too). Nowadays, the same principle applies, but for recordings.

Great videos. Thanks. One thing that bothers me a lot: the volume of your videos are very low comparing with other videos on KZbin. I always have to go all the way up to hear your voice :)

Volodos' edition of Mozart's Turkish march is quite incredible. It has so much power. Thanks for the video and advice once again. My work in progress currently is Bach's C minor prelude and fugue from the Well-Tempered Clavier and a Moszkowski Etude Op 72 no. 2. I constantly feel conflict. I do move forward but at the same time I feel like I'm still struggling with even the most basic things. Passages that should be simple couple of days worth of work turn into week or two of frustration. Patience above all I guess.

There is no “should”. We are all still learning how to learn.

@@mickizurcherYou know, I find that quite accurate. The more I've learned about "instrumentalism", if you will, and refined my method, the more I feel it's about learning to practise. A collection of good habits and rituals, like they talk in one of those books about how to be successful. An attitude, the relationship between intuition and logic, fun and work. I suppose one can be as talented or untalented as possible but still needs to find learning fun and possess the willingness to learn which will ultimately decide how good they can be. So a method isn't just about the long term compounded skill; it's an active thing.

For me being in late beginner I am noticing I am taking the love of piano personal my teacher struck a chord with me, when she said I'm not playing snake charmer right your not counting aloud. Keep in mind it's coming up on half a month working on this song & the beat is moderato. I'm going to use any kind of back up track I can to help with my counting.

Have you seenWim Winters channel authentic sound and his theory on historical whole beat metronome practice? Anyways, Love what you do on your channel, I have a bachelors only a piano, and your channel helps me grow even more in my playing. Had great teachers tracing lineage back to Liszt and Beethoven, but you’re teaching has been a great supplement resource.

I feel like before our performance, we should just sit at the piano chair for 5 minutes doing nothing, so we can kinda get use to the audience around u, then when u start playing u won't feel nervous anymore. Who knows?

Hey Josh I memorized Chopin Op.10. No.1 about 2 years ago I'm still not at full speed I honestly haven't been practicing it because I have 14 repertoire that I break down for the week to practice, so how do I practice a song to master it but at the same time still maintain every other music without forgetting? Thanks.
