But while you're in Manila, you can check their museums if you're into history. You can choose either urban or nature adventures depending what your vibe on the day or week is.

Time stamp 9:10 -- That's the statue of former Senator Benigno ‘Ninoy’ S. Aquino Jr. He was a prominent Philippine journalist and politician. He served the province of Tarlac as the mayor of Concepcion, provincial vice governor, and provincial governor. As a senator of the 7th Congress, he was the major political rival of President Ferdinand Marcos, and was one of the first to be arrested after the abolition of Congress and declaration of martial law in 1972. Aquino was put through military trial, charged with murder, illegal possession of firearms, and subversion. He endured seven years of incarceration before he was allowed to seek medical treatment in the United States for a heart condition. After three years in exile, he returned to Manila, but was gunned down before he could set foot on the tarmac. His assassination started a chain of events that would eventually lead to the People Power Revolution of 1986. Benigno S. Aquino Jr. was survived by his wife, Corazon C. Aquino, 11th president of the Philippines from 1986 to 1992. The bronze monument by sculptor Peter de Guzman commemorates slain former senator and Filipino hero.

You'll probably going to the south of the Philippines to see the beaches and islands but if you ever have the time, try visiting the northern part of the country. I'd recommend the ilocos region, Cordillera (mountainous) region, and batanes which is considered the most beautiful province in the Philippines. They also have islands and beaches there specifically in the Ilocos region. While the Cordillera region is known for its cold climate in a tropical country. You should also try looking up las casas Filipinas de Acuzar in bagac bataan, which is pretty much a town full of hundreds of years old Filipino houses. It's pretty close to manila so it's an easy travel.

Wow! I love your positivity and enthusiasm! You arrived in the Philippines with 19.5K subscribers. Keep up with this and watch your subscribership soar! Filipinos love it when foreign vloggers look at the positive aspects of our country. We're so tired of foreign vloggers who focus so much on the abject poverty and the scary-looking dishes. That's not all what the Philippines is all about, you know. Many of your vloggers will also be Filipinos breaking their backs working in the Middle East, North America, Asia, etc. just to send money home to their families. They're homesick. They are watching vicariously their home country through your eyes. TIP: Please get to know some local terms (don't butcher the pronunciation; you wouldn't want us butchering yours; ask around about the correct pronunciation ... Filipinos are a helpful and patient lot) and interact with the locals. Good luck, stay safe, and enjoy the Philippines. Oh, sorry about the rainy season ... we don't plan these things. Hahaha! :)

On a side note, the banana you ate that was on the Turon and Banana-Q is a variety called Saba. There is a tartness to it so that is why it isn't usually eaten fresh. But when cooked, it becomes sweet. That's why you will usually find that variety of bananas in Filipino cooking and deserts, which both of those things are considered as. The place where you ate at, generally is called turo-turo, literal translation is point-point. Its a type of store where you come in and point at what you want. Also, the thing what you thought was peanut butter, is in fact Bagoong (Shrimp paste) and is the accompany dipping sauce of the Kare-Kare (beef peanut stew). The shrimp paste is salty which gives balance o the sweetness of the Kare-Kare. Typical Filipino foods likes to play around with contrasting flavors. Salt/sweet, Salt/sour, ect. Also as a general rule, a majority of filipino dishes will come with a dipping sauce, its is again there to play around with taste. whether it be soy sauce with kalamansi, or fish sauce, or soy with vinegar, the list goes on.

@@josieliftsthings Honestly, it should be easy to find but the best mangoes r d ones specifically from Guimaras Island. They r known to be super sweet n juicy that it is illegal to bring other mangoes into Guimaras. U should try fresh mango shake and try ube which is purple yam that we use for dessert. A LOT. Ube ice cream... ube cake... takes a bit like sweet potato. Manam in bgc has good Filipino food if u r still in d area.

Welcome! It's awesome that you get to try good local street food. The one that you mentioned that they have in Thailand, we also have it here. Street vendors on bicycles/motorbikes with side carts selling street food. It just so happened that you're in a more developed area in Manila where they have food trucks. Awesome first impression! Looking forward to more videos.

Nice u've visited the Philippines especially Makati. You can try to visit BGC it's 10-15mins drive away from Makati it's way more modern than Makati it's comparable to any cities in Australia or in the US and also Manila which is the capital of the Philippines so u can check the old parts of the area and see the huge contrast of those cities. Enjoy ur stay here and hope will bump you on the street!

Hi, Josie. It's interesting that you got to try the different varieties of bananas in the Philippines. The first banana that you had is different from the kind that was used for the banana cue and turon. The ones that are usually used for cooking are called saba bananas. They're more starchy and don't fall apart when cooked. The small bananas that the lady gave you are also a different type. :)

I think its called Lakatan?? The 🍌 that look like orange color

And then there are giant Hispaniolas. Half of a banana could fill you up. 🙄😂

So many banana variety in the Philippines. :) but the saba is for banana que,turon,halo-halo etc. In maruya we can use any except saba haha because we smash it.

Try to visit Ayala museum at Greenbelt to see the gold of our ancestors. The Philippines has the largest collection of archaeological gold in all of South East Asia and perhaps even in Asia as a whole for the Philippines is known all through out the ancient world prior to the colonization as the isles of gold.

You exude sunshine and positivity so yes, I pressed the like and subscribe buttons, hoping to see more of your vlogs. Enjoy your stay! The Philippines has a lot to offer in terms of food, culture and traditions, as well as the arts. We’ve been under Spain for 400 years in the past, the US also has a strong impact in who we are. I’ve been to Melbourne twice before and enjoyed my stay each time. I like your food too! :-)

I love banana cue. It's an ultimate Filipino snacks 😋 Fyi: the one you thought was peanut butter is actually a fermented small shrimps. You are supposed to scoop a bit and mix it with your spoonful of kare.kare. Most foreigners don't like it. It has an acquired taste and smell 😊

I loved the Turon! Haha! I actually had a whole scoop of the shrimp paste by accident and I think I liked it just not a whole scoop 😂😂

@@josieliftsthings shrimp paste is best partnered with green mangoes. Well atleast that's how we Filipinos like it
@monchan542 жыл бұрын
@@josieliftsthings Karekare is cooked with peanut butter and the shrimp paste is a condiment. Some cook the karekare a little bland and people would dab a little of the salty shrimp paste before eating it with rice. As long as the shrimp paste is not the raw pink kind, you'll find it palatable because it would have been sauteed with coconut milk that has natural sweetness to it. The sauteed kind will have a purplish gray color.
