I have a bp named Lucifer (for obvious reasons) and I was a little spooked when I first handled him. About 99.9% of the time he's in strike position. But once I get him out he starts to loosen up and act like a big baby that his is aha. He acts all tough but he's just a sweet boy :)

I have 24 snakes. 6 of them have attitude problems lol. I had been told to take them out every day for 10-15 min so they get use to it. Well, that's not exactly working in my case but I do keep trying. I've been bit a few times and it honestly doesn't hurt at all. They are such amazing creatures, each with their own personality. Took a bit for me to get the confidence to do the confident grab, but once I did it was on ha ha ha. Enjoyed he video. Thanks

I've found that this works for defensive king snakes too -- I was working with a baby kingsnake that acted very defensively (striking the glass, hissing, rattling its tail), and one day I just reached in and grabbed him, and then he immediately just went limp. At first I was worried that I literally scared him to death, but then he started calmly moving around and searching my arm, no more striking or hissing, and once he figured out I wasn't going to eat him, he was fine with handling after that. I also agree with you about cat scratches being worse than ball python (and most other non-venomous snakes for that matter) bites. I've only been bitten by snakes a few times, and honestly for some of those times I wouldn't have even known I'd been bitten if I didn't see it happen. One time a little baby snake (either a corn snake or kingsnake, I don't remember) bit me, and I saw it strike at me but I didn't feel anything. Later I noticed tiny little pinpricks of blood on my finger, and it took me a couple minutes to remember what even bit me. Meanwhile I have scars from cat and dog scratches and bites, and honestly rodents bit me the most frequently and it hurt so bad!

You should make a video on genetic deformities in snakes (like spinal kinks and deformed jaws). I'd be interest to know how serious the issues can be and if it is unwise to adopt or purchase a snake if it was born crippled or with some deformity.

I've been lucky; all my 13 BP's are pretty tolerant. I do have 2 males that, once they reached sexual maturity, for some reason, don't want to be handled too much. They used to be fun to hold, but now they thrash around and get really stressed. Have you encountered this at all? BP's that are fine when they're younger but just don't want anything to do with handling when they get older?

I had a captive born ball, he was so tiny when we got him,his parents were huge and handled. I handled him all the time, the only time I ever seen him get defensive, and hiss,my youngest brother took him to show friends, I guess he thought that since i had no probs w him,he wouldn't. Snake was well over a foot.my brother got scared, and shaking, which scared snake,he dropped him on carpeted floor, and snake got into my record crate,in corner, reared up,hissing. My brother yelled for me,I came downstairs,he hissed at me till he noticed it was me,I scooped him up,he climbed up my arm and sat on my shoulde.the vet I took him to said he never seen a python so calm, used to people .I'd let my 4yr old niece handle him, we taught her how,he never hissed at hher.he tried slithering away shed pull him back,we would laugh bc he always had this " oh come on,are you kidding guys? " look.when he got to 3 to 5 feet,I'd let him sleep curled under my blankets.he actually lovdd being around people,he would try anything he could not to be put back in his tank, which had a great set up.he liked if we left top open so hed come and go as he pleased.even my mom got used to him,she would say he doesn't bite or get mean,he just seems to want to hang out.he would go up to my mom, smell her,and eventually when she was ready, hed climb in her lap.i miss him, great pet,and he had a personality for sure

Hello, ive been looking into buying a ball python, and I've done a ton of research so far, but I still have one question, when my snake gets large enough to where it will need to be fed rats, is it possible to feed them more than one mouse, that are the size/weight of a rat combined? I would just prefer not to use rats.

Exotic No, you can’t do that. Its seen as cruel to give them multiple bodies to digest, and this usually leads to impaction. Hope this helps!!

I know this comment is a year late but from my experience with my three ball pythons. They feel about the same as the scratchy part of Velcro. I’d say the worst part of it is how sudden it is which will probably cause you to flinch the first time.
