They can. I have kissed my dear male friend on the forehead. There is absolutely NO feelings or sparks between us. Pure friends and purely platonic affection. I realize much of the world likes to interpret any contact between man and woman as more (and I don't deny it often is!), but it is possible for it to be nothing too. Especially since Joshua could have been much more expressive here or even when they said their final goodbyes (look at Jill and Clive who flat out said I love you and mouth-kissed). It was just a very dear friendship.

@@lpstweetytv5242 honestly I do perceive a possible liking from Jote's side (kept strictly professional bc he is her charge), but not any from Josh's. (I even kind of perceive his awareness of it, but maybe even in that kiss, him saying she's dear, but it cannot be more. To me, that kiss couldn'thave been more platonic! )

@@July-gj1st lol. I like them as a couple too (and shipping people automatically just cuz there's a guy and a girl together usually bugs me). However, if I'm honest...I sense more of strong feelings from her (not sure if romantic though) and more attraction between Josh and Dion. (Though I did think he'd seemed a touch smitten by Mid when he first saw her, the way he said the, "m'lady!" and took to his knee. FF's first Bi character? Lol)

Man, now that we know from reading the games lore, info from the ultimania people translated, and inner thoughts from the first DLC that Jote does like Joshua I would’ve love to see her reaction when she finds out what happened to him as painful as it is.

Why I can't see the romance between the two of them? All I see is that Jote is super concerned for Joshua. She is so close to tears most of the time because of Joshua's insistence on doing something dangerous.

Yeah...sigh...they definitely act like very close friends rather than lovers. Too business-like. These two are like a Wall Street Executives couple--all business and no fun. Clive and Jill are like a blue collar Suburban upper middle class type--they have their crap together, but when Daddy gets home and hangs up his hard hat, the fun begins!

Well there is tension, even though very little. Perhaps the reason is because of Jote's duty and Joshua knows that he's dying soon.

I would absolutely LOVE for this to be the ending: Yes, Josh and Clive have died. Can't really get around that without being cheap. (And poetically, the new world can begin unfettered with the old magic/etc.) But...both Jill and Jote are pregnant. This way Clive is always with Jill as he promised, and both brothers WILL be a part of the new world they created. Jill bears a daughter (Mive? 😉) who works with Mid to complete their fathers' mission. Jote has a son, given his father's name, and he goes on to write the tale the boys were reading at the very end.
