the cloudy is moisture being pulled into the resin
@JOTZdesigns2 жыл бұрын
The resin stayed clear the entire time, but do you mean the film I spoke of? That would certainly be interesting if it’s moisture that caused it. I live in a fairly dry climate. I checked the humidity for the day I recorded this, and it was 12% during the day, and 18% in the evening, when I poured it. If a film is caused with 18% humidity, I can’t imagine how bad it is in humid climates! Thanks for watching!

Why do you need to add the hardener in first?
@JOTZdesigns3 жыл бұрын
It is recommended to do so by the manufactures. The hardener is a lower viscosity than resin (meaning it flows faster, is thinner), and by adding the thicker resin to it will help make sure it gets mixed thoroughly. I think of it as it’s easier to scrape a thinner substance off the side of the container than a thicker, ie water is easier to scrape off than honey. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

@JOTZdesigns5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! 🧡 These shells are so cute!! I’ve spoken with the owner of the company and he has never experienced the film, so he was unable to give me an answer at that time. It hasn’t effected curing overall, but in one test I did, I had a bit of a thicker film (and it was just after pouring so it should be setting or anything) and I messed with it but didn’t mix it in/remove it, and you could see it once it was cured. 🤷♀️ Just gotta keep testing!

Your white has sunk too. It happened to me last week 😮
@JOTZdesigns3 ай бұрын
If you mean the white alcohol ink, yes, that was the purpose. White pigment is the heaviest pigment and will sink. Also, the thicker the resin, the less it will sink - same for heavy items such as the sand and shell flakes. Thanks for watching! 🧡🙂
@amandalierly12912 жыл бұрын
Some resins only have a 40 minute window opening to work with. That's a quad the film was on there is because your time was up to work with it and that it was already starting to set up, starting it's process.
@JOTZdesigns2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! You are correct that some resins only have a 40min working time. This resin has at least 1.5hr working time, so that is certainly not the issue. Plus, resin doesn’t cure like paint from the outside in; it will all start to set up at the same time. As you can see in the video, after I mentioned the film, the resin is still quite fluid. After speaking with the manufacture, it’s most likely from using heat or ambient humidity.
@amandalierly12912 жыл бұрын
@@JOTZdesigns that would probably explain why it did that film. I have a little trouble with my AC and when I just have the windows and the doors open. Thank you so much for the video and the explanation. You have a lovely time. love watching them ❤️

Why put the hardener in 1st, never heard of that before 😊
@JOTZdesigns4 ай бұрын
It's not a requirement, but the reason is because the hardener is the thinner of the two, so it won't stick to the bottom as much as the resin will, and that helps with making sure it is mixed thoroughly. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

I have tried to use a little hand drill for some resin pieces w/o much luck. Can you recommend something small and not expensive I can try?
@JOTZdesigns2 жыл бұрын
Hand drills can be tricky to get used to! Here are the three types I use. Two types of hand drills, and an electric rotary tool. Hand - amzn.to/328l7tS Hand spring/push - amzn.to/3JMditR Electric rotary tool - amzn.to/3M19xCq I typically use the electric one when I need to drill THROUGH something, but, as I show in this video, you can still use if for adding things like eye screws! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mWbcnZyVrtKblZI

@@JOTZdesigns thanks for the advice
@cherriebridgens88022 жыл бұрын
Hi. Your work is beautiful. I’m just starting and there is just so much info. Conflicting or not. I have asked a few resin uses “ how come when your square or rectangular items come out the mould the edges when right side up are beautifully rounded and the wrong side up also appears to be round on the edges. My edges taking them out wrong side up, have a dip in them as if I’ve under filled them. The edges are ruff. I’ve tried to sand and polish those edges. What a disaster. Just about to through myself in the bin. Is it maybe the type of resin that you are using. Resin brands and types are not easily found in South Africa so always have to look for substitutes and that can also be different. Hope you can give a bit of advice. If not I’m going to the moon 🌝 Thanks for sharing your beautiful work.
@JOTZdesigns2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Having a raised edge in molds is normal, and most often what you get, even when filling the mold up to the edge. I am not a fan of sanding and polishing - too much work! - so there are other ways I will make the side you pour from look just as good as the side IN the mold. Basically, I fill in the cavity created by those raised edges with resin. This can be done before taking it out of the mold, or after. It is really just like doming a piece, though you do not have to add enough resin to get the ‘dome’ if you just want it to be flat and fill in that cavity. Small pieces like this are usually best to do before taking it out of the mold, just because it may be hard to get rounded pieces, like the 1/2 spheres, to sit flat and level on its front side. I personally like to take larger/flatter pieces out of the mold first. If you’re adding resin while it’s in the mold, you want to add enough that it is actually a little above the surface of the mold (easy to see if you get down at eye level), but not too much that it breaks the surface tension and spills out onto the mold. Add just a drop at a time, if you have to, to make sure you don’t overdo it. When it is out of the mold, it is pretty much the same thing, but instead of it spilling onto the mold if you add to much, it could spill over the edge of the piece. Another thing I like to do on larger molds is to underfill it a little so that when I do take it out of the mold and go to fill it in those raised edges are even and not rough, as they can get if you fill your mold to the edge to begin with. Check out this video for an example of me doing this, but I keep it flat instead of doming it. (Starting at 2:57) kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6LQdKyBndxqadk I hope that makes sense and helps answer your question! Thanks for watching! 🧡☺️

@@JOTZdesigns that sucks . thank you for posting the video , I bought the wrong epoxy during cyber Monday and I really didn't think it would work for molds , but your video was very helpful , for the pro marine table top epoxy . So I think it will work perfectly for the project I am going to be doing and it also helped me figure out what type of pigment to use . My best friend passed away beginning of January 2020 and I am making urn,s using the epoxy and will probably use the alcohol pigments
@JOTZdesigns4 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry for your loss! Always rough! A note for ProMarine... it’s a thick resin, so be sure to mix slowly, and with a silicone or plastic stick as wood can create more bubbles. Thicker resins will have more bubbles in general too. Don’t let it all sit in the mixing cup, or it will probably flash cure, and if you pour a thick amount in a mold, you may get flash curing also. I’d recommend separating it out into smaller and wider containers after mixing, and let it sit for a few min to help release some bubbles. Have fun!

JOTZ: How long you let the Resin Sit so some Embellishments, sans, etc won't sink to the Bottom?? i Use "Let's Resin" but just to get an idea. you got Lucky with the Mols nice and shiny reason I say cuz I bought exact one from Hobby Lobby and mostly were matted, scratched like a foggy finish if I'd kept it i be disappointed my piece would not be shiny having to add a coat of resin to shine it up not to mention have to sand down costing extra work,so I had to return it next time ima buy the mold from the provided Link you put in Description.
@JOTZdesigns3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on the resin you use as to how long you should wait before adding embellishments so they don’t sink. I’ve never used the Let’s Resin brand, but my guess it’s more a ‘middle of the road’ kind when it comes to viscosity. I’d recommend doing a test first, and start by pouring the resin into your molds, then add items at 30, 45, 60, and 75 min after. Don’t let it sit in the cup that long! Let it sit in the mold. A good rule of thumb for molds is if the surface is shiny, then your resin will come out shiny. If it’s matte/scratched, then that’s how the resin will come out as well. Hope that helps! Good luck! Thanks for watching!
@ThisOLmaan3 жыл бұрын

@JOTZdesigns4 жыл бұрын
Hello! I mixed 8.2 grams of hardener and 16.4 grams of resin to start. There was no measuring done when I filled the cavities as I just eyeballed each one, keeping in mind what I wanted to do (ie. add shells, ink, glitter, etc), and keeping a space for another thin layer once it was cured. This resin typically takes about 24 hours to cure. Thanks for watching!

The cover you use to cover your resin mold might be letting air flow under the plastic cover. That might be why there is a dry film on top. I like your colorful resin pendant.

Thanks! I like that one too! Air flow is not the reason for the film, I do know that. No other resin has the film issue, and most of the time I use a food tent to prevent dust and hair from getting into the resin while curing, and often I don’t cover at all unless it’s a top coat. Thanks for watching!

I have been using liquid diamonds resin and you aren’t supposed to use a lighter or any heat source on it or it creates a film or something like an oil slick. Your resin needs to be between 24-27 degrees or it will cure with an oil slick on it. I personally haven’t had any success with this resin. My room is too cold for the resin. I warm it up in a water bath but then it cures in the temperature of my room and creates the film. Your pendants turned out beautiful.

Thanks for the tips! I’ve never had a film when the resin cures, no matter the temp or use of heat. I’ve only gotten the film prior to curing. 🤷🏻♀️ I adore this resin, but it’s certainly not for every application. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I’m glad you found it useful! Regular inks certainly do not do the petri effect, but they definitely can be used for different effects!

I can see how un-messy working with resin can be. My first project was a wanna be Sea Scape an man-o-man did I not only mess me up my work space,l won't get into that,getting out of mess work twernt none too easy Seem's all got to wear now has stiff places where resin has stuck,terracta clay stains,paint stains,ect,ect. That's my story and it's sticking to me! From me K-Lee And my always by my side and lets me when to take a break, She's 99% right,and that would be my best friend The Unsinkable MOLLY BROWN. 🐕my💕🏳️🌈🤣👍No worry And be HAPPY😉☺️😋💯%

I do try to keep my resin mess to a minimum, but honestly it’s because I HATE cleaning!! 😂😂 The less I have to clean, the more likely I’ll do it! Otherwise I avoid it like the plague, and no arts & crafts get done! 🙄😂 Thanks for watching! 🧡☺️

where are your gloves? or at least let others know you're supposed to at least wear them
@JOTZdesigns4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! As you could probably tell from the video, this project is not messy, nor do I ever touch the resin. I’m sure you’ve noticed in many of my other videos where I do have a chance of touching the resin, I do wear gloves. It is not my responsibility for other people’s safety, it is their own. As stated in every video description, I can not be held liable for what others do, but I do urge following manufacture recommendations for safety.
