I always replace plastic wheels with metal ones. I've never seen plastic wheels on a real train. Cheers from eastern TN

My policy works along the lines of "if it works just leave it", but I definitely prefer metal wheels.

A French heavy passenger train... sound promising and very interesting! I've got a story which takes place in such a steam locomotive train. It is a passenger train running through Provence, and in a compartment of a wagon, there are three people: a French guy, an English one and a very attractive lady. At one moment, the train enters a tunnel. A few seconds of relative silence, then the noise of a kiss, immediately followed by the sound of a cheek slapping. The train gets out of the tunnel, our three people are all as before, except the French man which has the reddish sign of a hand on his face. What are they thinking? The lady: "This French man wanted to kiss me, he missed me and kissed the English, which slapped him at once! Ha, ha!" The French man: "The Englishman probably tried to kiss the woman, she believed it was me, so gave me a good slap. Merde!" The Englishman: "I can't wait another tunnel, to give a good slapping to the French again!"

@@raymondleggs5508 this one's ok. And I've got a spare. I've never opened one up, but I suppose they can be remagnetised.
