Joudain,great video but Johnny's time and frustration is the key cost component here.With that in mind it wouldn't be far off the price of the canyon .you can buy all the components no problem, putting them together is the tricky bit. All things being equal I would go for the Canyon as you compared against similar all road bike off the shelf? I love tinkering with bikes as you do,I have delihea rest frame Sensah empire 11 speed and elite 50mm rim brake wheels. Next bike will be a Carbonda 696(on-one freeranger)gravel/CX bike. Yeah I agree, if you have to pay the labour costs for the build then it's going to be better to buy a complete bike. As long as they have what you need in stock. That's my only issue is off the shelf bikes have off the shelf sizing. Large bars, long cranks etc.

At that price, the Canyon is the no-brainer choice. No issues and time spent building it. And if anything goes wrong with any part of it, within warranty, you simply get them to sort it out That’s worth the extra £400 in my books

I can't disagree. If you take your time into account to build it then they are probably the same price (ish). You seem to get pretty decent deals for fully complete parts compared to buying components. The only trouble is getting the bike with all the components you want 👍🏼

Think that's missing the point of a self build, is it not but I see your point. Any issues it's still dealt with overseas unless you live round the corner to Canyon.

@@whitebeardcycles It’s not missing the point of self builds at all. If you’re building your own bike because you want the enjoyment of the build, or because you want specific components then fine. But if you’re doing it because of time and cost (and there was a cost comparison in the video) then the Canyon is the better choice. As for sending things overseas, where are you going to send Chinese frame or components should anything go wrong?

For what it's worth I have been using that saddle myself for a couple of years, and it's magic. The base is a little bit flexible so it conforms to my shape while riding. Durability had been excellent over 10k miles. Totally blown away by it

to be that light with the current wheelset is pretty great, i'm glad you made such i detailed list of the build and tabs on all the items. i used the ebay to find some carbon wheels similar to the ones you listed learned to turn them and never looked back. oh ps i broke a spoke today on a climb so i had to redo all of my tubeless and truing but live and learn?

is there an update on this bike, testing it on roads extensively? I'm interested in this frame, to move my GRX 1x11 - 800 series (mechanical) on it. With some Ultegra crank and 1x transmission.

Like the “financial ruin” aspect and Shimano 105 rim brake group set still out there for $500 or less. That’s the lesson learned here but what a great series you did. The sublime suffering. and what about paying Johnny or at least a nice tip? 😱🧐🐸

This frame is totally available for $400 less from other sellers, namely Airwolf. Possible to have a legit budget build by cutting out the middle man and getting it for much cheaper from Airwolf. :)

Good appraisal. I do find the term "cheap Chinese" to be a little misleading for most people's idea of cheap. I have recently built an Ican gravel frame with Sensah/senicx groupset and Juin tech brakes and inexpensive carbon wheels. Once finished it totalled just over €2000. Not "cheap" after all..

I agree. They are cheap compared to new builds from known western brands but still expensive items in the grand scheme of things.

Its cheaper than my build, same frame (XS) but without decals / name, full SRAM Force AXS, DT Swiss PR 1600 wheels and Goodyear F1 tires, around 3000 euro and weight 7,39 with pedals but I prefer mine anyday LOL

Man i clicked for a cheap build and the frame alone cost 900+ usd My pc alone cost that amount... Why not go beyond cheap, like meme cheap, so i got a challenge for you, the 300 usd challenge 300 on the frame, 300 on the groupset, 300 on wheels and 300 on everything else

You over payed for the frame and group set. I bought a similar one for 372usd (all the same features different stickers and paint) . I went with the 11 speed since it was 130usd.
