Thanks for posting. I can't pinpoint an exact point in the video, but you've motivated me to reattempt to journal. It never stuck for whatever reason. The tips you've mentioned seems doable, so I have a feeling this journaling habit will definitely stick this time! Thank you and best to you and your family :)

WOW!!! Hemingway! This has got to be my favorite of all the videos you've done (and you've done many excellent ones). In my senior year of High School, I wrote my final term paper on Thoreau in Advance Composition class, and have had the wonderful experience of visiting Walden twice. So many of your shots were familiar to me. I grew up in Illinois about 85 miles northwest of Chicago. So going to Walden as a High School student was only a distant dream. When I finally went there for the first time it was almost akin to a pilgrimage. Now I am 66 years old, sitting in my little tea room today, watching a tremendous snowfall in Nova Scotia, and this wonderful video. I had checked in to your live show the other day and was looking forward to this. You did a fantastic job! I will probably watch this video again and again, at least once a month! Probably every couple of weeks! I LOVE IT!!!

I hope you won't mind a bit of feedback. There's a repeated clip here where you appear to be wandering along the wooded path in a contemplative fashion, yet you can be seen visibly waving your camera person back with your hand. In the theater, I believe this is called "breaking the fourth wall." Of course, we know from the angles that someone must be there filming you (and eventually, we even see that person's shadow), but I find it startling to see a stage direction in the middle of a nature stroll. Still a lovely video; I love the idea of looking to Thoreau for journaling inspiration and will be pulling out my copy of On Walden Pond for inspiration soon.
@HemingwayJones
@HemingwayJones Жыл бұрын
I had to go look for the clip you were speaking about and try to figure it out. I know what you mean and it’s funny because I am not addressing the camera person but my daughter who was also there. One of the issues I had in filming this one was that I really didn’t have enough footage for what I wanted to say, so I used everything! Although truth be told, I break 4th wall all the time. I appreciate the feedback and I am glad you like the video. All the best.

I have never been to Walden Pond but I do own the Faber Castle Walden Pond rollerball. The barrel was made from trees from Walden Pond and written in it are his words. He had gorgeous handwriting. They replanted the trees, of course. Louisa May Alcott was good friends with both Emerson and Thoreau.

This is an amazing video, probably my favourite. Beautiful images of a peaceful day are an ideal complement to your vision of the real meaning of journaling. This video is a little gem, it’s so original and motivating. My only wish for your future works is to watch them with no interruptions, commercials just ruin the atmosphere and disrupt the viewer’s concentration. I’ll surely join your channel as soon it is ads free. Thanks for being my main source of inspiration in journaling.
@HemingwayJones

Thanks so much, Sergio! I don’t think that it will ever be ads free. KZbin runs ads and we either share in ia small portion of the revenue or we don’t. I don’t think I have much input in the ads or how they run. I may be wrong about that. I will look into it further. I have KZbin Premium because I watch so much KZbin! So I don’t know what ads are like, but I agree with you that I don’t like them interrupting. Take care!

Greetings from Australia. Great Video I enjoyed it. The global pandemic initiated my journey into pens, ink and journals. With me it's all or nothing and I took the bull by the horns and have been journalling religiously every since then. Simultaneously I have about 5 journals on the go which include: Everyday Journal; Recollections Journal; Piano Practice Journal; One line per day Journal and copying the notebook of Mark Twain just for the sake of writing. I have about 70 fountain pens, just as many inks and lots of journals. So I've gone crazy. Not knowing about this diarist I would say that he was definitely inspired by Buddha. One of the quotes you highlighted is reminiscent of the Buddha. But that's only my opinion. Great Video.

Thanks, Hemingway. I can't add much to what others have already said, so I'll try to be brief. For those who, like me, have mild depression, keeping a "gratitude journal" is a wonderful tonic. Just keep a record of the things for which you are grateful on a daily basis. Especially simple things like a smile, a kiss or a sunset. For most, it is uplifting to realize the good almost always outweighs the not so good. For folks who are spiritually inclined, I highly recommend "The Diary of a Soul." Written by St. Therese of Liseux, it chronicles what is now known as her "little way of holiness." A path that involves nothing more than doing the simplest things in life with love and gratitude and understanding that even our trials and tribulations have the potential for great good. On a much more practical note, I highly recommend journaling for anyone who, like me, continues trying to improve his/her cursive writing. Practice, practice, practice! In addition, rather than use paragraphs, I keep 6 pens inked up with different colored inks and switch pens when I would normally begin a new paragraph. That way, I get lots of use out of my 35 or so pens and inks, all of which I enjoy a lot. Save a wee bit of paper, too!

Hey HJ, another great video. I grew up east of Concord and the pond and often visited it prior to the Fed's taking over. I am reminded of Henry David's comments on the newly arrived Irish as they worked on the railroad to Fitchburg when I drive over it on Rte 2. I was surprised to learn how close his 'cabin in the woods' was to Concord Center where he could in perhaps less than an hour walk to the Emerson' s for sandwich when he had enough of his beans. While I have developed my habit of writing daily, changing inks on the Bones and Ides of each month, I need to work on stretching more than writing mere daily doings. It's difficult to be more expansive least these words be read by strangers after my death. Ha. Do you re-read your journals? I have not. Am I wrong? K(eep)U(p)T(he)G(ood)W(ork).

Thanks so much! You definitely know this area. Yes, I do reread my journals. I even read them for the Members! Not everything, of course! Thanks for the kind words of encouragement!

I’m now starting to learn how to start journaling, however my wife says I need to work on my cursive writing. I see their are so many books pertaining to this. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks for your vlogs. 🤔

I have tried books on Palmer, Spencerian, how to improve your handwriting, and am now doing the Montblanc calligraphy classes, all to mixed effect! I wish I could help more.

That is so interesting . As I take pride in my pens and my journal so I have improved my cursive so I may be proud of it too. The secret to improvement is a slow down , form each letter as an individual work of art , start and finish each lower case letter on the Levine and develop a parallel slant for each vertical stroke and finally SLOW DOWN

As usual, lovely video! Incidentally, I will be headed to Quartzsite, AZ next week where Van-Lifers and RV enthusiasts congregate for the winter months because of the moderate temps (70 degrees in January) and free camping on BLM land. Ironic because these modern day "off-grid minimalists" require internet connections because they use their monetized KZbin channels to fund their lifestyle so they can pay for gas, propane, showers, solar panels, batteries, and campground fees. They shamelessly seek views and likes and new subscribers to gain corporate sponsorships, so they really aren't "off-grid minimalists" at all! They would not survive 30 days living in a rustic cabin with no plumbing, electricity, running water, etc.!

That is a good point! They better have a lot of subscribers if they are trying to live from Social Media! It doesn’t pay much. Have a wonderful tome down there. It would make for some awesome B Roll! I love AZ. I haven’t been in a decade though. All the best!

@@HemingwayJones I will be taking selfies with all of the camel sculptures around town. Interesting bit of little-known history! Also, journaling with my new Estie Petrified Forest (yeah, had to buy that one, for obvious reasons!)
