As a mother of triplets I see first hand how emotionally attached and dependent my kids are on one another. They cannot imagine losing each other and just the thought of it makes them cry and they adults now. These poor men were separated at 5 months of age. They already had a strong bond going back to conception! Of course they had psychological issues develop! You took away part of who each of them are.

I am also an identical twin, but my twin sister was stillborn. That bond you speak of is real, as I felt her presence at a very young age. I was 4 yrs old when I asked my mother about "a missing sibling." She sat me down and explained to me in terms I understood. To this day, I miss my twin sister even though she never lived with me, but I believe she watches over me.

It is not JUST about being separated. It is about purposefully placing mentally sick kids in environments that were bad for them...for research purposes...result? Suicide....The researches were well aware of this result when they placed yet more kids in the same scanarios. And of course, they never told the parents about the kid's problems or how to deal with it, because that would just negate the purpose of the study....That's far more evil that just separating them...
@KLmoxie Жыл бұрын
They were NOT mentally sick. The boys developed separation anxiety. Children/Babies remember things from 3-6 months onwards and even if their memory doesn’t hold, their body remembers the separation and trauma. They were also adopted so not “fitting in” with your family and feeling like you don’t belong is extremely detrimental to growth and healthy development during formative years.

+garrett21 I just watched the full documentary. The triplets tried to sue but the adoption agency and others involved were so well connected that they couldn't find a law firm who would go up against them. The US government and some anonymous "foundation" financed this study. One of the researchers, who moved to EU in the 60s, was interviewed in the film. Photos of her with the Obamas, among other influential people, decorated her walls. This thing reaches high up and some people are above the law. That's not a conspiracy theory; it is fact. The records of this study are sealed until 2066.

There should be a way to open those records, especially to the two remaining triplets who were part of the study. Contracts and agreements to secrecy have been overturned before. At one time adoption records were completely sealed and now most are open. The triplets and others who were studied were never able to give their consent to the studies or the results, yet they are bound by the hold on the records. When a law or contract involves people who could not consent to it, it is legally considered invalid. All of the children in Neubauer’s study should have access to the records

Yes and no. Correct me if i'm wrong but the while point of this study is to measure mental health. They purposely got twins or triplets who came from a parent who had mental health conditions. then the twins and triplets would be separated and given different parenting styles. Then the evaluation of the mental health of the twins or triplets would prove if it really is nature (mental health passed down through parent) or nuture or whatever. Of course this is an oversimplification but even the documentary showed that the fact eddie killed himself and had the worst style of parenting sorta goes into the direction of nurture. The study most likely did not consider the further mental health implications they gave to the kids after separating them.

The three brothers were born to a single mother in 1961. (They were actually quadruplets; the fourth brother died at birth.) At the direction of a Jewish adoption agency and psychiatrists Viola W. Bernard and Peter B. Neubauer, the three infants were intentionally placed with families of different economic levels - one blue-collar, one middle-class, and one upper-class - who had each adopted a baby girl from the same agency two years earlier. The brothers were raised by their respective adoptive families as David Kellman, Eddy Galland, and Bobby Shafran.They discovered one another by chance in 1980 and became very close, but all three struggled with depression throughout their lives, which ultimately led to Galland's suicide in 1995

Yes. The weird thing is that it is with Jewish twins/triplets AGAIN.

Joan Elizabeth Smith I dont understand Peter Neubauer, the researcher involved with this study. He is Jewish and his family fled his home country to escape the Nazis. How could he think this was ok?
@ladysmith77476 жыл бұрын
That one is completely beyond me. My guess is that he was completely devoid of empathy and very arrogant. That is what his behavior indicates to me.
@katrinawollard59856 жыл бұрын
Joan Elizabeth Smith , I agree. In the documentary the two research assistants also were Jewish. But they behaved so cold hearted as though they had no emotional connection or empathy to these multiple kids -as though the kids weren’t people but a study project. I don’t understand how they were so emotionally disconnected while they were studying emotional disconnection !

This proves that the saying "what you don't know won't hurt you is not true. What you do not know hurts more. Secrets don't stay secrets forever. Many families are deeply hurt by secrets which was supposed to "protect" them..

I'm just like my biological father and I never knew him growing up. Ive had updates from time to time throughout my life though. My sister is just like her biological father and she wasn't raised by him. I was raised by him for 7 yrs before she came along and our parents divorced. She is just like him. My gf is adopted and she's come to find out through her adopted parents that she's a lot she's just like her mom. Genetics are powerful

Interesting that Eddy, the one who was placed in the lower socioeconomic household, was the one to commit suicide-it's a shame they went through all of this
@moralslinky6 жыл бұрын
Eddy was in the middle class home, not the lower one. I highly recommend the documentary. It speaks more about why the brothers feel Eddy had the greatest difficulty coping.
@nureinherz6 жыл бұрын
He was the one in the middle class family. He didn't have such as good bond with his parents as the other ones had, that might have been more the point. Plus they all went through a trauma when seperated as babies, and some never overcome trauma and at some point commit suicide. When it's all too much and it doesn't matter anymore if the glass is half-full oder half-empty, you just can't hold the glass anymore. Tragic story. I'm sorry for what was done to them.
@daviddemaria39822 жыл бұрын
@@moralslinky I'm still pretty surprised that Eddy committed suicide, after this miracle of finding not 1 but 2 identical siblings. You would think having that support system would have pulled him through but I guess some trauma is too great? Wish he wouldn't have done it 😕

The movie took us on a journey and manipulated the facts to tell the story that the director wanted to tell. This journalist told us the truth in this interview. He said the doctor was surprised and shocked by how small a role environment played in their lives. The movie's "story" tried to blame the death of the one boys on a cold disciplinarian parent. That is not true and quite unfair to that father. Again, listen to this journalist who tells us exactly what the study proved to the doctor. Nature is a very powerful determiner of who we become.
@AGM-ts5bb6 жыл бұрын
Elana Carter That would be great.
@tellthetruthna85236 жыл бұрын
+Jerry Dunn In the film the same journalist commented that it was both nature and nurture. That said, I'm sure you are right about the bias. Documentaries are not unbiased. They always have a POV or at the very least try to generate controversy even when the facts are fairly straightforward. I didn't like the way the "disciplinarian" father was suggested as the culprit responsible for Eddie's death either. There was no evidence to support that conclusion.
@dorothya77406 жыл бұрын
I don't agree with this. The jury is still out on this one. I am told that depression runs in the family, that there is a lot of mental illness in my family. How can one not be affected by an environment? Take the 13 Turpin children who were raised by their sick parents. They chained them up to beds, starved them, forbid them to bathe except for once a year. They were beaten and isolated. No way is anyone going to tell me that this didn't effect them body, mind and spirit.

The records involving these brothers and others, are sealed at Yale until 2065. Tells you a lot about the ethics of those at Yale.
@rochellerabin24253 жыл бұрын
Apparently Yale has shared some info with the brothers. In another comment someone posted a link to that story. I doubt that Yale made the restrictions; it was likely a condition of being given the records.
