My grandpa was a twin.. His sister in later life had dementia, she couldn't recognize ANYONE.. But she would call him, her twin. She would try to eat the wrapper the Big Mac came in, but KNEW he was her twin. He was the last person she remembered, even after she forgot her children, husband, other siblings.. As does separation from one’s birth mother. Infant trauma is now acknowledged by the medical community. It SHOULD have been recognized by the middle of the last century. Most new mothers report that their baby immediately recognized them …it’s inconceivable that anyone genuinely motivated by child welfare could conclude otherwise.

I was present when 4 siblings were removed from their Mother. Two oler girls an a set of twins, a boy and girl. I will never forget their screams. The older girls were adopted by one family. The twins were adopted by another. Before the Mother's rights were terminated she gave birth to another Son, also removed. He was adopted by the family who adopted the twins. They are brought together every week to play together. I was shocked and amazed to know this. It's a beautiful thing. I've never heard of this happening before. I hope to hear of it more. ❤

Incredible sad story for all of those involved, the parents who chose to surrender the children, the adoptive parents, the new siblings and extended families also. And of course the babies that were used and betrayed and traumatised by the deplorable event. I can only hope for those who took their own lives, and with no judgement on them what so ever …. That they did experience some moments of sheer joy, love and belonging while they had their brief moment with their love ones. They have yet to fully reveal who the twins are who were brought into the nature vs nurture study. Subjects have asked and were told that they were not a part of the study, only to find later that infact they were. What I do know is that the human connection is a spiritual thing. Persons can tell that something is wrong, something is not complete, something is missing. Those feelings will never go until closure is found. God designed us with intelligence from before our arrival in this mortal world. Thus we see early unexplained behaviours and reactions that defied logical explanations by some of those kids in the experiment. It is highly suggestive that Dr. Neubauer and Dr Bernard went to some extreme lengths which could be described as cold and callous, devoid of any empathy for the subjects. Thus their inability and unwillingness to divulge their findings. I believe that the experiment continues today to include the offsprings of the subjects. Further, how was epigenetics included or incorporated in this experiment? Is it that the aim is to ensure that the subjects never find out what they were made to endure to their detriment and total disadvantage. A study which ultimately benefits no one; else why wait for decades, infact a hundred years before revealing the findings? May their miserable souls find no peace in the eternities in recompense for the senseless injustice perpetrated upon the innocent little (guinea pigs) ones.

They knew what they were doing, when the young lady confirmed what I was thinking, shocked me even more. They didn't start to develop a twinning bond after birth, it starts in the womb, the fact that they kept them in the same Crib, that was to strengthen the bond, they kept all the children together in the beginning for the same purpose. Facts have shown Twins have a hard time living life without each other, so it doesn't change that, it amplifies it. I truly hope what they learn from this is, it's absolutely, positively wrong and don't even think of ever doing it again!

I lost my twin as a miscarriage in utero, after 5 months gestation. I felt it all through childhood even though I didn't actually find out about her until a few years ago. As a child, I used to wonder if my mother had given my twin for adoption because she couldn't handle two babies. Later I wondered if my father had given away my twin and never told my mother about her (the days when mothers were put under anesthesia to give birth). Around age 6 or 7 I discovered I could open the bathroom medicine cabinet that was mirrored and see two of myself in the sink mirror. I played and talked with that image so many times that my mother started forbidding me to do it. When I was 10 we traveled the country in a motorhome, and I fantasized I would run in to my twin in some other state. Eventually, I became old enough to realize the fantasy of a lost twin was illogical, but deep down I still looked for her well in to my 20's. When I was finally told about the miscarriage in my 50's, I immediately "knew" and even "remembered" interacting with her in the womb. I remembered she was always funny and active and the outgoing personality. I remembered "waking up" one day and looking over to connect with her like I always did, but she had her back turned toward me and wouldn't respond. I felt all those emotions again. All this, after existing with her for only 5 months... I cannot imagine how much more intense it must be for babies separated long after birth!!

I’m an identical twin. This was so hard to watch. What a cruel thing to do to these twins/triplets. Not only are they adopted not knowing their biological parents but they had a twin which most definitely left a void in their psyche. And how does a child deal with that?! I think it’s clear by the lack of publishing and sealed records that the results were overwhelmingly negative, especially considering that suicide has been present in more than one of these families. So incredibly sad.

Yes, for all the supposed “interest” in the welfare of wards of the state (which is what surrendered babies are before being adopted), state and federal health departments fail to compile statistics on the age & cause of death of adoptees. Anecdotal evidence indicates that mental health problems and suicide rates are much higher amongst adoptees as compared to the general public. We in the adoptee advocacy community believe the statistics weren’t tracked because if the truth were known back during adoption’s heyday, adoption would lose its social acceptability. Were that to happen, the state would have been left with a ton of abandoned kids it had to support.

Wrong ! There were much crueller things done than this. The kids were raised in good families, most of them. Would they have a better life if they had stayed together with their birth parents? The fact that they ended up in an adoption agency already meant they were not wanted. They were studied in their natural environment. Were any inhuman things like inflicting physical pain, infecting one with a disease, etc done to them just for the sake of seeing how twins would react? You should see what many parents do to their own children to understand what is truly cruel.

It’s unconscionable that they were allowed to ‘seal’ the studies in the first place, let alone refuse to give those they pertain to, access to their own notes. On top of all the horror of separation for the study, to deny those involved access is just plain wrong! Those terrible perpetrators should have been exposed and brought to justice long long ago.

I appreciate you sharing this documentary about the research done on human separation experiments involving twins and triplets. It demonstrates unequivocally that humans are not only unprepared but also have a poor understanding of things that they did not create. As a result, they shouldn't attempt to design experiments that will only cause permanent harm that they are unable to comprehend, much less repair or reconcile.

My paternal grandmother was an identical twin. She and her twin sister were vital to the other. It wasn’t just that they loved each other, they had that special connection between them that was unknowable to anyone else who was not an identical twin. They spoke a twin language that was initially thought to their speaking their native Irish to one another. It’s true they did speak Irish fluently all their lives (born in Galway Ireland). But the language they spoke was not Irish. It was their twin language. I heard them speaking it to one another throughout their lives. The didn’t or wouldn’t speak it on demand. But if they were alone together they would lapse into this language that was truly fascinating to hear. They never lived more than five miles apart at any given time and they were happiest when they were neighbors. My grandma and her twin were incredibly special human beings. Knowing how vital their bond was to one another makes this absolutely despicable study that much more obscene and cruel. It makes my heart hurt. What was taken from these innocent children a crime against their personal humanity. Something truly beautiful and deeply meaningful was stolen from these kids. Many of them did not do well once they realized what that gaping hole of loneliness truly was. It makes me just sick and furious that this was done. So tragic. Those smug self important so called scientists don’t seem to have any concern for the damage they did. It’s just sick.

If you liked this documentary (even though it’s weird to say ‘like’ about such a heartbreaking topic), may I recommend the book “The Memory Keepers Daughter” by Kim Edwards. It’s a fictional story set in the same time period as these twins would’ve been born. A snowed-in doctor is forced to deliver his own wife’s twins and, upon realizing one of the children has Down Syndrome, he makes the decision to have a nurse quietly take the child to an institution to be raised. He tells the wife only baby survived. Her anguish and his guilt begin to take a toll on their marriage. The story is over the course of 25 years and follows the lives of both twins as they live separately and endure the consequences of their separation. It’s one of my favorites and I couldn’t stop thinking about it whilst watching this.

How about pilots and soldiers who join illegal war in Iraq and kill THOUSANDS of innocent civilians? It is so easy to say that evil people does evil things but I'm quite sure that you wouldn't dare to say straight to the face of the soldier who is responsible for launching the nuclear missile that evil people are committing mass murders with nuclear weapons. That he/she is a murderer, evil person, ready to murder millions of innocent people. There is monsters within human beings but usually evil is just banal things we people do. I was born at Pensacola naval hospital in June of 1965 and know, now, in my soul, I have an identical twin. I spent most of my childhood in Indiana, and moved to Florida, on my own, at age 18. I was approached by far too many strangers, believing me to be someone else. I almost got to see her as she spoke with my manager about a job. Years later, married, and with children., we were going to Pensacola . I called my mother to get an address of where we used to live. She said she didn’t know, other than it was on Hwy. 10. My parents left Florida when I was 2, maybe 3, so memories were in short supply. By the grace of God, I found the place and the owners were the same and remembered my parents . They asked which one I was and I told them I was the middle of the my two sisters. They asked, “What have they told you? What do you know?” I was confused at their sudden alarm and told them I don’t understand. Then they abruptly went back inside, saying I needed to leave. It was weird. Then to make it even weirder, my mother leaves Indiana for Pensacola. I called to tell her about the experience, but had to find out from my sister where she was. Later, mom asked if I visited the hospital, which I had not, and still have not to this day. That’s when everything started making sense to me. My father had deceased and my mother was a very closed book. I never had a loving relationship with my mom, as a child. It was better for my sisters. I remember dad yelling at mom, “Why do you love her?” I was a loner and always felt something was missing. My dad’s mother told me I had braces on my legs as a babe, as they were bowed. I understand this can be common in multiple birth pregnancies. My mom conveniently remembers nothing about my birth, and gets very angry when asked about those early years. I’ve lived in NC for 25 years now and the near misses of seeing her have continued. A friend said she spent the day with my twin at the Biltmore. My look alike was seeking advice on a gardening project for her 3 homeschooled boys. I have 3 boys, love gardening, and homeschooled. My friend did not know of my predicament and how I wished I had told her. She said she could find no difference in us and that she lives in Indiana and her name is Christina. Another friend who goes hunting in Indiana, stopped at a store south of Brown County and said that he saw me. He thought I was visiting family there but I didn’t. I didn’t want anyone to think I was crazy, so I haven’t told but a few about this. I believe my mom put my twin up for adoption without my dad’s blessing. My grandma, now deceased, put hints in her letters about twins, as twins run in the family. Why all the secrets? I hate the technology world and therefore never put myself out there to find her. I am hoping my Lord and Savior would just make it happen if it’s right, as she may not know she is adopted. Did our military do these twin studies as well?

This is one of the most tragic event I have ever listened to. How sad for those involved in this inhumane separation. In utero developing and hugging into each other. They are human beings. This sort of catastrophe is abominable. These twins and triples suffered loneliness and lost their inherited bonding when separated knowing deep inside “ something” was missing from their lives.

Those documents were sealed because the doctors/psychiatrists knew the research was wrong, cruel, and they were ashamed. They didn't want to face anyone, explain their evil actions, face possible lawsuits, be pubilcally humilated, and loose their license and respect. They wanted to make sure that if any of the twins or their families read the studies, the doctors/psychiatrists like Viola Bernard and Peter Neubauer, would be dead and nothing could be done. Peter Neubauer had those documents sealed until 2066; he died 2/2008. Vioala Bernard had her study documents sealed until 2021; she died 3/1998. Viola Bernard's obituary describes her as " a moral compass for psychiatry." There wasn't any type of morality in this study. It was sick and evil.

I don't have kids and I'm not a twin but I cried watching this. This is so upsetting.

This is heartbreaking. My husband is an identical twin and the relationship that he and his brother have is the most precious amazing relationship I’ve ever witnessed. I feel blessed being privy to it because it’s so cool. They were each others rock their entire lives, I can’t imagine how devastating it would be for them to have been separated like the ones in this documentary 😢

This is so heartbreaking. Twins had such a special bond and during those dark days experimenting on People was like eating a pie. It seems that much harm has been was done. I hope someday all those separated twins can be reunited before they departed Earth. Very strong, emotional, and well done Documentary.

So very upsetting.. Twins and triplets know there's something missing. How dare the agency do that when they wrote that the children were rocking, sad etc.. they know right away it wasn't working.
