Former White House pool reporter Sid Davis visited the museum taking a tour of SAM 26000, the Presidential aircraft that carried John F. Kennedy’s body from Dallas to Washington D.C. on Nov. 22, 1963. Davis heard the gun shots and covered the story, including the swearing in of Lyndon B. Johnson aboard the aircraft. As a White House Correspondent for Westinghouse Broadcasting, Davis traveled thousands of miles covering Presidents. He made trips with Presidents to Vietnam, the former Soviet Union, the People's Republic of China, Korea Latin America, the Middle East and Europe. In all, he covered nine Presidents.
This video was produced by National Museum of the U.S. Air Force Public Affairs Specialist Ken LaRock.

I will never forget Did reporting JFKs body returning to the WH. When he quoted Robert Frost and broke into tears.. The most heartbreaking coverage of that day...

For those of you keeping score at home.. JFK was killed Nov 22nd 1963, not Nov 23rd as the museum curator narrates.

His story was worth recording, but what does this have to do with the airplane? He could have related stories about JFK using the aircraft.

Yes, it was vital for LBJ to have an impartial press record of his swearing in and he got the valuable bonus to his credibility by having the First Lady stand next to him as he was sworn in. FACT: Had LBJ not ended up as the VP to JFK he was facing imminent bankruptcy and prosecution in some shady deals involving huge amounts of money. As the situation stood, even as VP, once that job expired, if JFK had lived, LBJ would still have faced prosecution the moment he ceased being VP. He had to come up with something to ensure he didn't eventually go to a federal prison. The only safe way out of this dilemma was to become president. If you see all the stills taken during the swearing in, you'll see LBJ, after taking the oath, turn and smile at a tall man to his right rear. That man returns his smile and appears to wink back at LBJ. You can easily look up who that man was. Having Jackie stand next to him, still spattered with her murdered husband's blood, brains and flesh, did LBJ such an, unintended, favour that, for years after, LBJ would call Jackie feigning sincere concern for her grieving and general welfare then, later, leaking tapes of those calls to make himself appear as if he really cared. Hundreds of authors and historians have acknowledged that LBJ had nothing to do with Lee Harvey Oswald but that he did have much to do with the murder of JFK. Mrs Kennedy and those three pool journalists, unknowingly, provided LBJ with the impression that he was, rightfully, assuming the reins of government and that he was now, as President, squeaky clean. He was, from that shameful moment, untouchable, by any court in the land, such was the political and legal landscape of the country at the time. The truly sad thing is that time cures all wounds while covering up all manner of sins, and in that Boeing '26-hundred' was the stage upon which a coup d’état was successfully perpetrated in the United States. Even worse, time as it rolls on, will soon make this entire tragedy a part of 'ancient history'. Pretty soon, in historical terms, it will no longer really matter who the guilty parties were as the 'grim reaper' has taken all those who truly did have JFK's blood on their hands. As much as I love aviation and aviation history, Air Force One, tail number 26000 ,will to me, be no more important or significant than Ford's Theatre in Washington. RIP JFK -- BH

How can it be explained that no journalist has picked up an easy Pulitzer Prize by breaking this story? You talk as if there is evidence for what you are claiming. If that were true there would be reporters all over this story knocking each over to be the first one to break it. It would be the biggest news story in U.S. history if a vice-president was involved in the murder of a president. No amount of threats by LBJ could have kept the story from leaking out. Not for a week, and certainly not for six decades. And if it was kept so secret that no journalists know about it, then how do you know about it? Reading conspiracy books doesn't count. How is it that historians know about it but the worldwide news organizations don't? I didn't realize that historians are so secretive. And hundreds of historians believe this? Must be a pretty loose definition of historian. And none of them apparently have obtained enough actual evidence to interest even one major news outlet anywhere in the world? Wouldn't some of the United States' enemies benefit from breaking this story? What is the evidence for what you are claiming? Suspicion based on possible motive is not evidence.

G'day Bill, Actually, using the clear top to JFK's limo would not have made much difference to the sad result of the shooting. The top cover of the limo was not bulletproof, not even bullet resistant. The wounds to both parties in the car would have been even 'messier' but high-powered rounds would still have found their marks. My source for this info was a Secret Service comment on the use/non-use of the clear top. Bill H.

@@BillHalliwell You don't need a Secret Service source to know that. It's been well known for decades that the bubble top was just for weather protection.
