I love these long form videos that get into route setting. It's so interesting to see into the minds of setters and hear how they approach setting a route or problem.

I'm an ex climber who only supervises my kids these days. I have no chance to climb much myself so lack strength and dont generally go above 5b these days however love working out problems. I've never been that into climbing walls but this type of setting seems like it may change things. More opportunity to choose your own line mimics routefinding on real rock. Much more exciting!!

To sum up...introducing the "Thought Wall." Sort of splits the difference between the 45 filled with holds and a normal wall narrowed by A to B climbs. A long stretch of wall with maybe 3 designed starts and 3 designed finishes within the same hold color. That will create dozens of combinations. Add multiple chromatic sets...not too overwhelming...and suddenly you have a wall with 40-50 climbs. Good idea.

I really enjoyed this exploration and talk. Thank you for sharing for us still trying to become "great" setters. *and I think it's pretty hard to set a bad boulder with those wrecktangles ;)

I love the idea of leaving it to each climber to interpret.
