Song wise, there is nothing simple here at all. The song is one of the very best "crafted" pieces I've ever heard. There is allot going on in this song musically, and the only way to explain it is to look at how a pocket watch works. Musically, it's like that.

Perry is still alive and well and of course we see even better that the original recording. the instrumental technique was zero difficult, but by the same token the band members were extremely skilled. they rolled it all back as Perry joined the band. by dumping their egos and joining with Perry - the rest is history. god bless them all.

Musicians had to actually be musicians in that era. They had to have a real voice and know their instrument inside out. I played in bands in this era. The competition was intense, and it was real. I had the experience of totally kicking ass with a great set, or my band getting our asses handed to us by another band because they were better. But it was real competition. We had to work harder to get better. Now nobody cares about real music and the hard work that goes into it.

The Escape record was recorded in 1981, there weren't too many studio gadgets at the time. They had the basics: reverb, flange, chorus and the most complicated piece of equipment at the time was the Eventide 910. You had the and a 24 track tape recorder and that was it. The sound engineer hit the record button and the band played. You got what you got. It wasn't until the mid/late1980's and the semiconductor/chips that things really started to change. More and more gadgets were invented, and you could cover up all the fuck ups shitty musicians made.

I lived in the Philippines for 20 yers, and watched Arnel Pineda slide into Steve Perrys place, and I thought he did well, but now I watch Steve Perry a few years later, and I realise nobody can ever replace him or his voice. Ariel, you are good, Steve, you are the real thing!

Maravillosa interpretación y los arreglos de piano y solos de guitarra adelantados a la época. Steve un virtuoso y maravilloso ser humano.
