"From the bud to the bloom, symbolism of the Lotus flower in dance from Egypt to India and challenges of the life of a dancer in a traditional society. Choreographed and performed by Lise Moulet at TEDxJanpath."
Lise Moulet is a multifaceted dancer, choreographer and instructor from France. Her extensive dance journey started at a very early age with Classical Ballet and Modern Jazz and progressively led her to specialize in Middle Eastern and Indian dance vocabulary. She currently trains in Kathak dance under the acclaimed Guru Pt Jai Kishan Maharaj, eldest son of the Kathak legend, Pt Birju Maharaj. In parallel, Lise works on contemporary choreographies that seek to harmonize and fuse movements from Kathak and other dances. Lise's studies and performances lead her to share her time between India, France and other parts of the world. She has performed on various stages internationally, notably in France, Belgium, Canada, India, Iran, Vietnam and Thailand.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Without Indian make up and jwelery, kathak feels like a widow. But a wonderful performance.

Lovely! I was treated to a wonderful kathak in India in 1970, performed by a 15-year-old Indian girl I was madly in love with. Haven't seen it since. Thank you!!

+Lise Moulet Is there somewhere we can see/ listen to the whole presentation? It seem like parts of your speech are missing...? I would be interested to hear it all. Very beautiful dancing!

+Masha Yes indeed, nice catch! The very beginning of my speech is missing (before the Arabic dance piece) in this video. Unfortunately the full version isn't available. I briefly talked about how the journey of the Lotus can express itself via the medium of dance and that I will be demonstrating 3 different phases of the Lotus with 3 different dance styles. Then I introduced the Arabic dance as being possibly the oldest dance tradition alive, there being evidence that it might have been performed for religious rituals centred around fertility. I based my concept on this idea for the first dance piece where I am representing the lotus bud/birth of the lotus. Thank you for your interest!

The "Persian music" seemed not that authentic and too sentimental. Would love to see you dancing to other Persian musical choices. Something with more energy perhaps.
