They (the Portuguese - Roman Pope) did not allowed the Persian bishops to come to Malankara. Whoever came were subjected to inquisition by Roman Popes instructions!

There are 24 Sui iuris churches in the Catholic Church. The Latin rite Church of the Catholic Church is the largest among all of them. The Church established by Christ came to be called "Catholic" in the early second century in the writings of Ignatius of Antioch (Letter to the Smyrnaeans). The word Catholic means Universal or part of the whole. Wherever Christ's Apostles established churches they are part of His Church- the Catholic Church. Thereafter, several early Church Fathers refer to this Church as the Catholic Church in their writings. The Nicene creed reaffirms it as the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. The word Roman is referred only to the Latin rite of the Catholic Church, but not to the other 23 sui Iuris Eastern Catholic Churches. To call the entire Catholic Church "Roman" would be a misnomer. In fact it is the Protestant Church out of it's disregard calls the Catholic Church the Roman Catholic Church. Somehow some Catholics have accepted it. Nowhere in the Catechism of the Catholic Church is the Church referred to as the Roman Catholic Church. None of the Eastern Catholic Churches would ever refer to their Church as Roman Catholic Church.

If Mar Evanios have been made Catholicos in 1928, Malankara teeth would not have been born. Please do not drag God into all these splits. All splits happened because of politics at the expense of Christian values and brotherhood.

History says that Mar Ivanios was given the green light by Vattasheril and group to go to Rome, prior to the vattipanam ruling. Also, who did Mor Thoma ordain as a successor bishop? Indian Orthodox, Marthoma, Syro Malabar and Syro Malankara are all claiming primacy for that "seat" - which one is the true successor? Who were the successors prior to the Portuguese?

Jesus knows how we humans need leadership and visible authority in the church.Even the ancient Israel were not happy till they had a human king ruling over them. Absence of a supreme leadership what causes all the fights and theological disagreements we see in the protestant and orthodox churches these days. To avoid that , Jesus established Peter as the rock on which his Church is to be built. The primacy of Peter is clear in the bible and early church teaching. If you read the writings of the early church fathers, who are the disciples of the 12 apostles, it is clear that the early church was Catholic and believed in the primacy of peter and the Bishop of Rome. So please read the actual historical documents of the church and teachings of the early church fathers if you have any doubts.

@@antiochsuryoyo5118 The catholic Church as established by our Lord Jesus Christ existed from the very beginning. The scism was not a singular event which split the church. The great schism is rather the result of a very gradual process.There was a series of temporary schisms that loosened the bond and prepared the way. The early church had always recognised the primacy if Peter and the Bishop of Rome. In 190, Pope St. Victor I settled another dispute from Rome regarding when the Eastern Church should celebrate Easter. The Pope instructed them to celebrate Easter at the same time as in the West, and his instruction was universally obeyed. When the patriarch of Alexandria erred on matters of doctrine in the third century, Pope St. Dionysius demanded clarification. The patriarch asserted his own orthodoxy in obedience to the pope of Rome. St. Athanasius appealed to Pope Julius I. St. Basil appealed to Pope Damasus. St. John Chrysostom appealed to Pope Innocent I . .St. Basil the Great and Athanasius, they needed the pope’s intervention, the bishop of Rome to deal with the dispute about Aryan bishops in the east. They sought his intercession in the matter because he had preeminence and primacy over them. St. Cyril appealed to Pope Celestine. Saints Basil, chrysostom, Cyril and Athanasius are bishops and patriarchs of the eastern orthodox churches. St.Basil and St.Chrysostom are 2 of the Three holy heirarachs of the eastern orthodox churches. The list could go on. The history of the Church during the fist millennium is one of mostly undisputed acceptance of the primacy of Peter in the person of the pope of Rome. The following writings from the early church fathers and councils support the primacy of Peter and the Bishop of Rome. Way before the schism of 1054. Council of EPHESUS “Philip, presbyter and legate of [Pope Celestine I] said: ‘We offer our thanks to the holy and venerable synod, that when the writings of our holy and blessed pope had been read to you . . . you joined yourselves to the holy head also by your holy acclamations. For your blessedness is not ignorant that the head of the whole faith, the head of the apostles, is blessed Peter the apostle’” (Acts of the Council, session 2 [A.D. 431]). “Philip, the presbyter and legate of the Apostolic See [Rome] said: ‘There is no doubt, and in fact it has been known in all ages, that the holy and most blessed Peter, prince and head of the apostles, pillar of the faith, and foundation of the Catholic Church, received the keys of the kingdom from our Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior and Redeemer of the human race, and that to him was given the power of loosing and binding sins: who down even to today and forever both lives and judges in his successors’” (ibid., session 3 CYPRIAN OF CARTHAGE “The Lord says to Peter: ‘I say to you,’ he says, ‘that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it. . . . ’ [Matt. 16:18]. On him [Peter] he builds the Church, and to him he gives the command to feed the sheep [John 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single chair [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. . . . If someone [today] does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he imagine that he still holds the faith? If he [should] desert the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he still be confident that he is in the Church?” (The Unity of the Catholic Church 4; first edition [A.D. 251]). Council of SARDICIA “[I]f any bishop loses the judgment in some case [decided by his fellow bishops] and still believes that he has not a bad but a good case, in order that the case may be judged anew . . . let us honor the memory of the apostle Peter by having those who have given the judgment write to Julius, bishop of Rome, so that if it seem proper he may himself send arbiters and the judgment may be made again by the bishops of a neighboring province” (Canon 3 [A.D. 342]). OPTATUS “You cannot deny that you are aware that in the city of Rome the episcopal chair was given first to Peter; the chair in which Peter sat, the same who was head-that is why he is also called Cephas [‘Rock’]-of all the apostles; the one chair in which unity is maintained by all” (The Schism of the Donatists 2:2 [A.D. 367]). JEROME “[Pope] Stephen . . . was the blessed Peter’s twenty-second successor in the See of Rome” (Against the Luciferians 23 [A.D. 383]). “Clement, of whom the apostle Paul writing to the Philippians says ‘With Clement and others of my fellow-workers whose names are written in the book of life,’ the fourth bishop of Rome after Peter, if indeed the second was Linus and the third Anacletus, although most of the Latins think that Clement was second after the apostle” (Lives of Illustrious Men 15 [A.D. 396]). “Since the East, shattered as it is by the long-standing feuds, subsisting between its peoples, is bit by bit tearing into shreds the seamless vest of the Lord . . . I think it my duty to consult the chair of Peter, and to turn to a church [Rome] whose faith has been praised by Paul [Rom. 1:8]. I appeal for spiritual food to the church whence I have received the garb of Christ. . . . Evil children have squandered their patrimony; you alone keep your heritage intact” (Letters 15:1 [A.D. 396]). “I follow no leader but Christ and join in communion with none but your blessedness [Pope Damasus I], that is, with the chair of Peter. I know that this is the rock on which the Church has been built. Whoever eats the Lamb outside this house is profane. Anyone who is not in the ark of Noah will perish when the flood prevails” (ibid., 15:2). “The church here is split into three parts, each eager to seize me for its own. . . . Meanwhile I keep crying, ‘He that is joined to the chair of Peter is accepted by me!’” (ibid., 16:2). PETER CHRYSOLOGUS “We exhort you in every respect, honorable brother, to heed obediently what has been written by the most blessed pope of the city of Rome, for blessed Peter, who lives and presides in his own see, provides the truth of faith to those who seek it. For we, by reason of our pursuit of peace and faith, cannot try cases on the faith without the consent of the bishop of Rome” (Letters 25:2 [A.D. 449]). Council of Chalcedon “After the reading of the foregoing epistle [The Tome of Leo], the most reverend bishops cried out: ‘This is the faith of the fathers! This is the faith of the apostles! So we all believe! Thus the orthodox believe! Anathema to him who does not thus believe! Peter has spoken thus through Leo! . . . This is the true faith! Those of us who are orthodox thus believe! This is the faith of the Fathers!’” (Acts of the Council, session 2 [A.D. 451]). Cyprian of Carthage “The Lord says to Peter: ‘I say to you,’ he says, ‘that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.’ . . . On him [Peter] he builds the Church, and to him he gives the command to feed the sheep [John 21:17], and although he assigns a like power to all the apostles, yet he founded a single chair [cathedra], and he established by his own authority a source and an intrinsic reason for that unity. Indeed, the others were that also which Peter was [i.e., apostles], but a primacy is given to Peter, whereby it is made clear that there is but one Church and one chair. So too, all [the apostles] are shepherds, and the flock is shown to be one, fed by all the apostles in single-minded accord. If someone does not hold fast to this unity of Peter, can he imagine that he still holds the faith? If he [should] desert the chair of Peter upon whom the Church was built, can he still be confident that he is in the Church?” (The Unity of the Catholic Church 4; 1st edition [A.D. 251]). Cyril of Jerusalem “The Lord is loving toward men, swift to pardon but slow to punish. Let no man despair of his own salvation. Peter, the first and foremost of the apostles, denied the Lord three times before a little servant girl, but he repented and wept bitterly” (Catechetical Lectures 2:19 [A.D. 350]). “[Simon Magus] so deceived the city of Rome that Claudius erected a statue of him. . . . While the error was extending itself, Peter and Paul arrived, a noble pair and the rulers of the Church, and they set the error aright. . . . [T]hey launched the weapon of their like-mindedness in prayer against the Magus, and struck him down to earth. It was marvelous enough, and yet no marvel at all, for Peter was there-he that carries about the keys of heaven [Matt. 16:19]” (ibid., 6:14). “In the power of the same Holy Spirit, Peter, both the chief of the apostles and the keeper of the keys of the kingdom of heaven, in the name of Christ healed Aeneas the paralytic at Lydda, which is now called Diospolis [Acts 9:32-34]” (ibid., 17:27).

@@Pratsg86 Most of what you are quoting is nothing but pro-Catholic propaganda from catholic sources. The early Church did not support things like Pope as infallible, immaculate conception and filioque. There is nothing outside of Roman Catholic resources that suggest that we all need to bow down to Rome.

@@antiochsuryoyo5118 my friend these are writings of the early church fathers. Nobody has manipulated it. It is presented as it is written. There will be plenty of orthodox resources to read the writings of the early church fathers in your own orthodox church libraries and online as well. There are non catholic resources too. Read it for yourself and decide.

The original nasarani are the the church of the east and Syro Malabar ......the western syrain liturgy came later ....you have also manipulated history syrain orthodox church is your mother church ...go unite with them . we are catholics we have nothing to do with you. Isn't that what Indian orthodox is doing to Syriac Orthodox? Capturing their churches and manipulating government/law officials? If it wasn't for the Syriac Orthodox (Jacobite) Church of Antioch, the Malankara Orthodox, Syro Malankrara and Thozhiyur Churchese would not have a tradition; they would be following either east syrian tradition or Latin tradition.

Actually, malabar catholics went against the archdeacon, who at that time was the leader of the st Thomas Christians. Parambil chandy easily grabbed power to be a bishop. No surprise, he was the cousin of the archdeacon. He turned many of the archdeacons followers against him. New liturgy made sense since we accepted the rule of the patriarch of antioch, who has valid apostolic succession and tradition. You followed pope, but reduced your traditions.@@antonyxavierpawath5418

@@antiochsuryoyo5118what you say is correct. However, then jacobite church had too many splits compared to the Malabar church, which split once in the 1800s. In fact, I strongly believe if parumula thirumeni did not die an early death, there would be no factions, no malankara catholic church. Jacobite church would have been stronger today with patriarch. I am malankara catholic, and I like both churches to be one again. I don't mind if patriarch of antich is the leader. Ignatius aprem II is a loving father to the malankara church.

All powerful Catholic church is not the original church as some believe. There is no mention of the Catholic church in the Bible. But see Bible Acts.11:26 stating that Jesus disciples assembled at Antioch and were first known as Christians. The church of Antioch is seen mentioned at several occasions in the Bible. Hence the Orthodox church of Antioch is the real and original church as long as there is Bible. Catholic church emerged only around 324AD by the efforts of emperor Constantine. It was Arianism that prevailed in Rome till then and there were hardly any Christians leave alone Catholic church. Again bishop Ivanios left the Malankara church to a more wealthy organization. But he took away all educational institutions entrusted to his care by the Orthodox church. If he was straight forward he could have returned it to the real heirs. Asset's acquired by dubious means is always questionable.

You have never read the bible....Read Paul letters to the Romans ..church existed in Rome is the true symbol of that and a proof . The church of Rome is the ancient and true apostolic and Catholic. Where Peter and Paul bore witness to their faith. The ancient council of our faith was evolved. Read about the great Christain council's. Where the holy Cross was venerated by emperor Constantine as the symbol of victory "Sleeba".

Which is the church of Antioch... These are the following churches of Antioch: 1. The Maronite Church of Antioch 2. The Syrian Catholic church of Antioch 3. The Melkite Patriach of Antioch 4. The Eastern orthodox church of Antioch 3.The Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch ( Non-Chalcedonian Church) While there is only One holy apostolic see of Rome.

Abi Adoor, hlw1st check, when was the cathoilic church& orthodox church divided, it was in AD 1050,(just check in Google). and the malankara catholic just rejoined with catholic Church in 1930, their tradition is antochian (western). 1st study about all these

It was west-east mother church governed by council of bishops or patriarchs. not the current roman supermasict and western european, roman pagan culture propagating, western imperialism implementation church.
