The 8BtStereo revamp continues strong with one of the best platformers and soundtracks ever done by the Sunsoft team, its Journey to Silius! A soundtrack that is synonymous with many Sunsoft releases that makes use of the infamous "Sunsoft Bass". Just fantastic quality compositions that really shows the Sound Team is getting the absolutely most out of this soundchip, every Stage theme having such a powerful melody and drive, from the banger "Title Screen", the energetic "Stage 1", the melodically beautiful "Stage 2", the never give up vibe of "Stage 3" and the powerful determination of "Stage 4". With "Stage 2: Underground Concourse" become a favorite over the years, also from its incredible 3 minute length before properly looping, becoming a nearly 7 minute track, very rare for an NES soundtrack. Every track is worthwhile and is no wonder it is an example of high quality piece of 8Bit music. This game is also actually Developed by a division of Sunsoft called the "Tokyo Design Center", Tokai Engineering technically counts as a Publisher in Japan so they could put out more games then regulated, a smart move as it helped in giving us more great games from this company! This would actually be the first release that featured the sampling bass in these pitches that would then be used on future Sunsoft titles. While the Sound Driver is based on the first iteration by Akito Takeuchi, this is when Naohisa Morota was credited for his involvement implementing the Bass samples which was from an AKAI S700 Nobuyuki Hara had, and Morota and Hara worked on optimizing the sound source and data size so they could get the most out of the sound without compromising other parts of development of games Sunsoft was working on. Shinichi Seya also helped upgrading the Sound Driver, so technically Sound Driver credit from here on out would be given to "Shinichi Seya & Naohisa Morota". Also for the longest time Manabu Sakota was simply under the alias "Mabochan" until recently discovered the full name, and it is assumed Sakota contributed compositions alongside Kodaka for this OST, always fun learning more about a great soundtrack and the legacy of Sunsoft! :) Thanks to the wonderful division at Tokyo Design Center, we got a game that remained fairly obscure in the NES lifeline, until finally being noticed and praised for its many achievements! Stellar graphics, tight and fun gameplay, and of course, the music. Please, if you have not played this game do so, you will not regret it! :)

"Underground Concourse" is what made me look up and actually play this amazing gem of a game. Smooth, to the point gameplay, decent minimal story, killer ost, yup the footrprint of our beloved sunsoft. 4 minute long song without looping! It conveys the sheer will power of our hero to avenge his father and overturn a corrupted leader willing to slow the progress of man for profit. Cheesy but we love that power struggle, fighting to uncover a truth or overturn injustice. A very power song, maybe its overrated to some but i always find myself listening to this to give myself some hope for the future, granted, if you too, fight for that future.

The Terminator one released by Mindscape was just an unfortunate victim of being one of Paul Wilkinson's first NES soundtracks, and I believe only had a few weeks to do Compositions, a talent he was not familiar with at all. Unironically though, I think its decent (if the songs were a bit longer and fleshed out it would have been perfect Moody music) and actually fits the mood of that first game. Terminator 2 on NES, now that's just a god damn amazing OST by Geoff Follin, that while doesn't fit the vibe of The Terminator, doesn't matter when the songs are just all killer no killer It would have been great through to have a killer Terminator 1 OST by Sunsoft, along with the killer Terminator 2 OST from a Follin.

i've always been a huge fan of this channel ever since i found it. i am not sure what tools you used to create either the old mixes or the newer ones. however, i just wanted to say, there will never be soundtracks like these ever again (and to an extent the SNES). there is a reason they all sound so distinctive. the sounds produced by the original hardware etched its way into human souls and created a genre we refer to now as "8 bit." if you are trying to purify that sound with some new hardware or software, i'm not sure i can agree about it.
@Nikos8BitStereoАй бұрын
Thank you, for a little insight I still use the same tools/method like the old mixes, but I just fine tuned the craft even better to make these Revamped mixes. And yes it's quite true, because we will never be in an era where composers had to use such limited technology and programs, its great that we can still make music like the 8 & 16Bit eras, but its not the same being confined to the limitations of what you knew about the Hardware and Soundchips you were composing for. My go-to phrase for how the best Video Game Music stood out so well is: "Limitations Breathed Creativity", such as here, through the limitations of the NES, the Sunsoft sound team probably worked hours upon hours of fine tuning and trial and error working to maximize the sound and size capabilities of only Kilobytes they had while sharing that same size with graphics and programming to make an entire game on an NES cartridge. And sadly this effort was essentially a thankless job, it probably got praise within the industry and programmers and players that recognized the creativity, but the art of how this was done is often not discussed and brought up enough, Video Game Composers/Programmers forever have my respect for giving us the best knowing they probably will never get worldwide attention, but that's okay, for us who are lucky enough to experience this, I hope the people that made this Music possible know some people are elated and overcome with joy with what they created :')

Absolutely, if you check the description there is a download for the NSFe file of the soundtrack, which is essentially the Music in a file format that can be played back on certain programs, while I use Winamp + Notso Fatso plugin, I recommend getting Foobar with the Game Emu Player component, I provide both in this link which also has my current Collection/Archive of all NSFe's: mega.nz/file/wk0h3bQC#SyQtjmp5sE-WcWzd3Z4HeCQMg8IszzDQ3W5Lb1Tzo18 One you get Foobar installed its easy to then drop Game Emu Player into the "components" folder where Foobar is installed, then of course install it within Foobar from the Preferences and then in "View" you should see "GEP control" and should be able to "Enable playback override" which will allow you to pick which specific channels you want playing! Hope this helped and sorry response was late! :)

I have to say, I much prefer your original mix. I've listened to both the new and old a fair amount and while I prefer the more clear and better sounding instruments in this mix, the old mix has WAY better stereo separation. I also like the reverb in the old mix, but I think I would dial it down because that seemed to be a big reason it sounds less clean. On my main monitors in my studio you actually get quite a nice sound stage on the old mix. In this one all the instruments are put near the middle. I think if you can achieve a mixture of both, using the clearer sounding instruments in this mix but achieve the stereo separation in the old one, you will have an amazing mix!

An incredible soundtrack. Why the reupload though?

I know this response is hella late, but essentially I was not happy with my Older Mixes, and ever since shifting away from my old username of "WiiGuy" to "NikoTengoku", I knew I wanted to update and Revamp these OSTs in my "Niko Era", and give more attention and care to these videos/uploads, the new 8BS mix sounds so much better and these videos look even better, feels a lot more professional, considering my goal to archive and preserve these soundtracks :)

Neato, but it would've been more epic to have the Boss theme and etc. before the Ending theme.

Looks like your wish came true, I would never thought I'd live to see Sunsoft come back and make a sequel to Gimmick and Ufouria: The Saga.

Mm, I vastly prefer your original rendition of this OST, it just sounds so BEEFY.
@Nikos8BitStereo3 жыл бұрын
Probably due to the way things were separated and how the instruments of the sound channels came together, plus the general way the echo/reverb was, I get it sounding more "full" or beefy in that case. The original upload will always be there, but personally satisfied how these are :)

Why dose this game not have a sequel
@ignacioleon45603 жыл бұрын
It doesn't bc it tanked really, losing the Terminator license meant it couldn't ride the film's wave of promotion n popularity. Therefore it was left in obscurity without a campaign of advertising n way to promote it really. I was lucky enough to have played it a few times as a young child with my cousins and bc I have a good memory I remembered the game n with a little time searching n doing some research I found it. The game I remembered, but the title eluded me. I have it on my Retro Freak n Wii consoles, it is pretty hard too.

@@I-L0ve-sally-197 I'm with you there, would of liked to have seen further releases on later console generations. At least one for the SNES n maybe one for the og Game Boy.

If youre asking me, the new version is not bad but i miss the chrisp sounding highs of the old version.
