Another interesting video! Lots of glass from the 1800s had manganese in it. Exposure to sunlight typically changes the glass from clear to lavender.

It's really neat to see the mining town so well preserved with so many artifacts. Thanks for showing me a historical location I wasn't aware of.

Well Glenn, what an interesting mining ghost town, with a resident cat🐈... Doesn't bare thinking about kids swimming in a mercury pool🤪😱 times have changed for the better on that score... Ichthyosaur tour will have to wait, I guess 🤭.... 🥰 Thanks to you both for another enjoyable trip back in time. Love always from Ireland 💚🍀 🥰

Hiya hiya! 👋 😊 The fossils are awesome. It's hard to wrap the mind around seeing bones as old as they are when the land looked NOTHING like it does today. Simply unreal!

Mining and fossils, what a cool place!

Agree! History from some very far apart eras that one wouldn't really think about existing in the same space. So cool!

What a great video- such incredible quality! The mercury ponds- 😮 crazy! I didn’t know how that was used in the mining separation process. Wow! 😳
@CactusAtlas Жыл бұрын
Yeah, mining used a lot of not so terribly fun chemicals it seems. But it's such a cool town so I guess that makes up for the idea of mercury ponds? 😂

Looks like an interesting spot for sure. Thanks for the tour. The only time we still carry personal checks, is for camping fees. And some cash in rural areas for food.
@CactusAtlas Жыл бұрын
I can't remember the last time either of us had cash in our wallets. I guess it just goes to show how remote the place is! 😅

That siding is asphalt siding similar to asphalt roofing shingles. I remember homes that had that in my area back in the late 60s and 70s.
@CactusAtlas Жыл бұрын
Ah! That's what I was thinking it was. Looked the same but hadn't seen any used as siding before. Thanks for the info! 👍

Glenn deserves a tour fee-free. I know he didn't bring enough cash, but after that long of a drive and the exposure he gives this park on YT, should be on the house. Also, park doesn't look crowded, if I was the ranger and I saw someone poking around and as interested as Glenn, I'd be like "don't worry, come join us".
@CactusAtlas Жыл бұрын
Hahah! Love it. It would have been nice, but parks of course need funds to keep going. Just our fault for overlooking the cash only business. Hopefully our mistake helps others though. 😅

That gear tooth can be repaired today, but back then it would most likely have been replaced to save time. It would also require welding and specialty tools, and I can imagine they did not have quick access to that sort of equipment. Just a guess
@CactusAtlas Жыл бұрын
Kind of what we figured would be the case. I imagine something like a broken gear tooth would really hinder a town like that in those days.

Tar paper shack. They used to use that to cover and water proof insulate houses etc

WOW, what a cool mine! It is a shame that you can't get closer in some of the buildings, but really neat nonetheless. Thanks for the tour and let me know if you'd like me to put together a go-fund-me so we can get you the $5 for the tour! 😂

🤣 Unfortunately we're now no longer near the town, so might need to up that Go Fund Me. 😂 Teasing. No funds needed. We'll hopefully get back eventually.

My wife and I used to camp at Berlin/Ichthyosaur all the time. We liked the remoteness and the fact we were so close to a ghost town. Got caught in a couple of horrific thunderstorms camping there. Love your videos!@@CactusAtlas
