Journeybook II by Carson Cooman (2010-11)
Journeybook II by Carson Cooman was written for and dedicated to Jeffery Grossman It is collection of material to be assembled by the harpsichordist into a performance entity. Musically, the work combines elements of Baroque dance suites, the French “Ordre’ collections of harpsichord pieces, continuo improvisation, and contemporary open forms and structures.
The performer is invited to enjoy the score’s variable expressive and formal possibilities, at every level-from the large-scale form down to the smaller musical decisions (such as extensive ornamentation and variation) The creation of this work in performance is a shared activity between performer and composer, reflecting the expressive skills of both. It is an attempt a contemporary version of the freer performance practice of earlier eras.
In this recording, the movements selected are:

Ritornello B
