Over the past couple of decades, hundreds of Indian children have been kidnapped and sold to Western countries. Despite the exposure of the illegal baby trade, Indian authorities seem powerless to stop it.
In 1996, Sunama s husband sold two of their children to traffickers. "I wept. I tried to hang myself, so I could die, " recalls Sunama. She didn t know where they were, or if they were even alive. But Akil and Sabila were happily living in Canberra, Australia. Julia and Barry Rollings had adopted them, believing their parents had given them up due to illness. Yet when the Rollings read that the orphanage had been linked to a kidnapping scandal, they became suspicious. Months later they received an email. "The two words I just remember is the stolen and sold ," tells Julia. Despite the fear that we might lose our children, they told Akil and Sabila the truth and decided to find their birth mother. Julia is determined to stop the same happening to others. "I want to channel some of my energy into making sure adoptions are conducted ethically. "

That’s so hard for both parent and child. On one hand the child is living happily while the parent is suffering wanting their child back. I’m Native and live in Canada and the government stole me and my siblings, put us in white homes, I was lucky after I was adopted because I had great adopted parents but even as a child I knew I was different because of my skin colour. I lost my heritage, my language. My adopted parents are my parents but so are my biological parents. A lot of times there are not happy endings.

As a fellow Canadian, I’m so sorry this horrific act was done to your family and your people - it’s inexcusable. I was adopted and I know for myself there was always a sense of not feeling rooted and my approach to life and my beliefs didn’t mesh with my adopted family. With my parents blessing, I met my biological family when I was in my early twenties. My biological parents had married after I was born and they went on to have four more children. Meeting them and learning of my Irish heritage gave me the roots I was needing. Unfortunately, my biological mother had never wanted to meet me and after years of trying to make it work she admitted that fact. After learning that information, I made the decision to step away because I believed it was the best decision for everyone involved. Although it was an incredibly painful period in my life I’m thankful I met them and connected with my biological roots. If it’s your desire to connect with your biological family, I hope and pray you are given that opportunity 💕

I am so sorry you had to go through this. Your story has been the MO in many Global South countries, where europeans have been and in some places remain. The real number of "ethical" and truly orphaned or consentual adoptions is about 1% of ALL adoptions globally. Unfortunately it is mostly the west/europe/whites who create the demand for black and brown babies, which in turn feeds the multi billion dollar adoption business. On top of that are the adoptions through colonialism's divide and conquer, like your life story. And no this isn't just something which happened in the "past" as many choose to believe. Additionally to that are the terrible amount of adoptions done by sinister people's sick desires, enslavement/maid and other horrible reasons. Its terribly sick and wrong. I'm sorry this happens.

My daughter went missing for 1 hour once, I almost died during that moment. She was 3 and she just walked into the crowd, It took a fraction of a second, I looked down to pick up my cell from my purse and when I looked up she was not there. Luckily she was found by a someone as she had wandered off in the vicinity. People around me were amazing when they saw my in distress , with in seconds most of them offered to help and via WhatsApp I shared her photos with a lot around and eventually she was found wandering by a man, he had given her to the police car. This was 2 years ago and I still get jitters when I am reminded of that day.

We lost sight of our 2 yr old in the food court at the mall. OMGGGG I WAS FREAKING. I was calm, but the busy street out front, the entire mall & the doors fleeted through my head. We found her within 2? 3? 4? mins I guess it was. She was wandering through the tables. I stood up on a bench and told the crowd our daughter is missing & what she was wearing, plus hair color. Everybody just SAT THERE. Some head's pivoted. But like NOBODY even bothered to get up & start looking around!!!

I had a similar experience at an amusement park with my at the time 3yr old. Just got swept up in the crowd in a split second!! The extreme panic I felt.....a mother seeing distress came over & asked what was wrong & a group of us began frantically searching. You’d be surprised how many kids had that exact same swimsuit......luckily he realized he was lost & went up to a lifeguard. I can’t imagine what parents who go thru worse must feel.

My daughter is adopted from South Korea. This would utterly break my heart. Kudos to the the adoptive mother to bring children to meet their biological family. It would be hard, but I would do the same. My daughter is now almost 13 and yearns to learn about her biological family. Korea will open her file when she turns 19. I have been preparing a photo album for her biological mother and will give to her the day we get to meet her. I imagine myself giving her the biggest hug, crying and thanking her over and over for bringing our daughter into this world. She was only 15 at the time of birth and in South Korea there is a high amount of illegal abortions for teenagers. So, my daughter’s very life is a complete miracle in itself. We live a beautiful life in California and we are very open about her story (I am blonde, so we stand out as an adoptive family). In fact my daughter is proud of being so incredibly wanted and prayed for for so many years before she was even born. My husband and I tried for a baby for 9 years when we received our daughter. She is an only child for us and we are raising her to be a kind hearted child, who excels in school and dance. She is a sheer joy and I thank God every single day for putting her in our lives. I smile just thinking of her. She desires to meet her bio family and I fully support her when the time is right.

Even when I was 10 I was not allowed to go out alone, but my best friend was. When I asked her why I couldn't go out alone but my friend could, she said "because no one would kidnap her, she's ugly they don't want to kidnap that. @@GypsyGirl317 I do not think that they are denying her real identity. All adopted children somehow want to know where they came from and the girl will surely know in the future and I am also sure that her adoptive parents have either told her or will in the future. She is only 13 and there are many stories of teenage adoptive children actually not wanting to meet their biological parents at that age, because they are either in a hard time of their lifes or simply are still in shock of finding out that they have been stolen (same goes for the adoptive parents). As it was also mentioned in the documentary, it is not known yet whether there are any loopholes in Indian law regarding getting the children back, as they have actually not been properly adopted. Her biological parents voiced multiple times, how they want their daughter back in India with their family. I can see why both the adoptive parents and the child are scared of that happening, after all for her, her life is in Australia. I know a lot of adopted children and every story is completely different and mostly very difficult for everyone involved. However, there is no way that someone who grew up in a "normal family" can fully understand how the adopted kids and parents actually feel. After all, some day in the future the daughter will reach out to her biological parents. It's nearly every adopted child's deep longing to know where they came from. It's also not very hard for her, after all, her biological parents are well known through this documentary and the contacts shouldn't be too hard to get.

amazing Australian Mom and Dad!! You can tell that they absolutely love their children, like they were biologically theirs. Like she said, it's really about the children 1st. It is because of their love and compassion that the 2 children were so warm and welcoming to the whole thing. Then the birth Mother could see that they're loved and feel comforte in that!

Witch One Adoptive mothers are REAL MOTHERS. They did not know these children were stolen. They thought they were given up willingly by the biological mother. The fact that these mothers actually searched for the birth mother when they found out, means that they loved them and wanted the best for THEIR children. That is what a mother does. Just because they did not give birth/share DNA does not mean they are not their mother. It’s very hurtful to adopted children (like me and so many others) to hear a ignorant person state that their adoptive parents are not “real” parents when they know nothing about the situation. They are REAL PARENTS, they are the ones that are there for them, loved them, when their (most of the time) dead beat/drugged out/abusive biological mothers and fathers are not. These children were stolen but they are LOVED and still see their biological parents which is a very sweet thing of the adoptive parents to do. It’s a sad and unfortunate story, but legally the biological parents don’t have any rights to them.

I am open to reuniting my grown son with his birth mother *if* he, too wants that. We'd first have to have that discussion. If he did, I would not know where or how to start the process, but I'd be open to starting it! Also, "birth mother" is the generally accepted, inoffensive, accurate term for the women who gave birth to these children. "Real mother" or "real father" bothers adoptive parents and adoption agencies because the implication is that we adoptive parents are then somehow "unreal". We most certainly are not! Especially if our adopted child(ren) are adults, we *earned* the right to be called their *parents*, period. Kudos to the producers of this report.

I was going to my grandmother's place back in 2014 with my family and my lil sister was walking with my father holding his hand. She was 10 and used to be very thin and light in stature. We were at the New Delhi railway station it was very crowded, There were people stepping on each other cause of the diwali season. Suddenly someone grabbed my sister's hand and tugged very hard and my father had a death grip on her, I remember being in the back of this scene seeing my sister in pain and literally lifted a foot in the air because of both the men were trying to pull her on thier side. She was crying, I was so shocked and wasn't able to process what was happening but suddenly due to the influx of the crowd the kidnapper was given a lead and she was very much towards him, i remember how everything just went away and I just wanted to save her and I did. Today watching this I am so so so thankful that the kidnapper wasn't able to take her that day.

I think the Indian mother just wants to know they are safe. I can't imagine how painful the not knowing is....i mean, she tried to kill herself multiple times. I believe that if she sees they are happy and have better opportunities than she can give, any mother would choose to let them continue living the better life. In retrospect, my utmost respect for the Rollins family for choosing honesty and thinking for the good of their children. And even more respect that they willingly choose to support the birth mother. Lastly, shame on the adoption agency. How rediculous to accuse the mother of lying....the lady tried to kill herself for God sake.

This is horrible! And what is even more horrible is the adoptive families who knows the truth and still remain anonymous from the birth parents! the child was kidnapped! The child wasn't truly given up! yet they selfishly keeps the child from the mother and father, acting like they would be the ones to suffer most if the child reconnects with their birth family! what those adoptive families are doing is basically kidnapping ontop off kidnapping! it's disgusting and should be illegal!.

I would return the children to their biological mother /family and continue to be in all their lives. Then again, I would never take (adopt) a child from their own country and cultures etc in the first place. I would move there if a child needed. Tin general, the Indian mother has every right to have her children back regardless if she wanted.
@Sussysi
@Sussysi 7 жыл бұрын
your contradicting yourself. On one hand you would move to protect the child's well being so you don't take them out of their environment, culture and country- what not. Then on the other hand you would rip them away from the only family they know. The Biological Mother and Father always initially have the right to parent and raise their kids if they can love and nuture them properly but then its common sense to look at what is in the best interest of the children and their welfare and what will give them the best possible outcome in the future. I think it would be selfish to immediately be making decisions based on biology alone (other than how it was illegal because we are past that point we can not change that).

The children Will be angry only if the real mother found out where they are after many years of them were being raised by the adopted families. If she discovers adoption only 1 or 2 or 3 years after the kidnapping, the children should return to live immediately with the real mother, it is likely that they would prefer this and have little adaptation difficulties. If the real mother finds out where the children are many years after the kidnapping, there should be an agreement between the biological and adoptive family so that the child spends part of the year with one family and spends the rest of the year with the other, so that both exercise the right to raise children. In my opinion the ideal is that the children spend their school holidays with their real mother, so that their study is in the parents of the adoptive family, where they will have better opportunities.*

You will realize what you said once you die. More people are sinning each and everyday, that’s why we now have COVID and corrupt governments and all of this sickening behavior. Jesus Christ died for our salvation which means we can be saved and forgiven. Those who believe that Jesus Christ is their lord and savior will be saved. If you don’t want to believe it’s fine, God is real though. I hate to say this as well but also Satan is real. Heaven and Hell is real. The issue is the ignorance that keeps on going on in the world.

My heart goes out to her and the 10+ years she spent mourning and worrying for her stolen babies. I am so proud that the Aussie family gave her answers and rested her weary heart, reunited her with the children and that the two families are in a good place for the future. 💗🇦🇺

this is honestly one of the saddest things ive seen in awhile. i cant imagine what parents go through, losing a loved one is hard. and the children must go through so much too.

Wow. On one hand the kids were adopted by an amazing family. And the that family is now supporting that widow with 5 kids. The kids are dressed well and they pay for their education. God works in crazy ways man. Who knew that she would be supported by the same family that bought her kids 10 years ago

You got to be heartless to know a child was stolen and not even make contact. Are they crazy. That is cold hearted, and no compassion for the fact you got to raise that child and enjoy the benefits.
