It is funny how perceptive and yet unaware this being is, at least from my perspective. He is capable of empathizing with the captivity and betrayal aspects but I feel the listener would be more hurt not necessarily by the direct captivity or betrayal but rather that was is being promised now is eternity, everlasting resources, and a palace....when the listener only ever wanted them! I also wonder if things would have gone better had the human listener been allowed to accompany them since they could have acted as a mediator and cooler head during that being's introduction back to Earth.
