This is probably hard to believe but Koy Division’s music has helped me get through some of my darkest days.

Such an emotionally evocative song. Grabs me every time.

For me, from the very first time I heard this song, it really evoked survivors of the Death Camps coming back to find everything has changed around them as well as inside. I can really visualize lines of half-dead young men, having survived the worst, just to realize that, even if they're free from the horror itself, they'll never be from the memories of what they've gone through (for instance, jewish writer Primo Levi has made for years the same nightmare : he wakes up, and he's back in Auschwitz; he never were freed, he just dreamt all his life since his liberation, which never really occured...).

Congratulations, you are I think the first KZbinr to review this song, so it should attract a whole load of us Joy Division fans, notwithstanding that we are a downbeat and miserable bunch (which I'm sure you can tell from our taste in music). This song has a kind of liturgical cadence to it, like a dirge. I recommend 'She's Lost Control', harrowing but brilliant. It's one of their more well known songs, but please review it even if you have already heard it.

My band in the 80s covered this song. We even built a wooden hinge piece to play the starting clapping sound.

Their albums are soo dark, especially this one considering it was released after his death, pleeasee react to New Dawn Fades when you can!! One of my absolute favorites, from their 1st album Unknown Pleasures, easily on my top 5 ❤❤

Read Isaac Rosenberg’s “Dead Man’s Dump “ and T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land. This song is so WWI.

This period of British music had so many interesting musical artists. I recommend Gang of Four, Killing Joke, Gary Numan and Bauhaus.

Echo and the Bunnymen were pretty decent as well. I'm not in either camp. I'm from Preston and see Liverpool and Manchester as about = in music. But that's just an opinion. The world's 4 greatest music cities... Liverpool, Manchester, Seattle and Detroit. All had post-industrial issues, shitty weather and a lot of bored unemployed people. I think that's where the secret lies.

This song is essentially a tribute and lament for the generation of British men who fought World War II.

He was a true empath, it's why he never remotely approached a whiny woe is me tone in any of his lyrics. The fact that they were a deadly serious band 100% of the time when that's almost always a bad thing, is a testament to their greatness. He used to work in a social services office, helping people with mental issues to get their welfare cheques.

The year is 1979. No one is making experimebtal music like this perhaps maybe Bowie but obviously not as dreary. Joy Divisions legacy is heard in almost any alt rock, metal, goth etc. group since the 80s

What?? Devo and Kraftwerk were already making much more interesting “experimental” music long before Joy Division… who needed a producer to help create something halfway listenable

Every time I listen, I envision a whole flux of nearly or totally insurmountable pressures & expectations upon the minds & shoulders & fates of men (I’m female). And I’m all in black - missing you & wishing you back, & that I’d done more. And you’re coming back, Christ Jeshua.
