Hey y’all. Love the concept and that you are out there adventuring. I am not telling you what to do but a piece of advice. If you set a lean to near on or your bike. Do not do it on the kickstand side. If it rains or the ground gives in the middle of the night the bike will fall on you. Do it on the other side… not as much coverage but much much safer. Marine of 26 years and slept out in every kind of crap you can imagine. Also on a bike. Keep riding and safe travels.
@joymachinetheshow Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice! The tent is made to work this way and there is also a full metal plate under the kickstand so no danger of falling. May try on the other side too but hard to fit two people as it is, let along on high side of the bike. Thanks for the comment and the support though, we appreciate it!

@@joymachinetheshow Hello Joy Machine ....Sorry, but no matter how confident you are, it is impossible for a low side squish if the bike is leaning away. I grew up in Seattle, and had lots of adventures in Eastern Washington. In CleElum, we’d ride dirt bikes all over the old cold heaps. Around the Potholes, we’d fish/camp. Riding two-up, under a lean two doesn’t provide much shelter. But at least you can keep each other warm. I Solo off my ‘07 HD Deluxe, here in Idaho, and North Eastern Oregon. A plow-point tarp, pitched off the bike, makes up my crude camp. I use a tyvek ground cloth, and gortex bivy, stuffed with a air mattress, and down bag. The bike is leaning away, with the Ridgeline from the handlebars, staked to the ground, tarp, pinned at the corners. It works great. Better if it’s a lawn. The hot dogs were a nice touch… Your woman seemed chill. Rugged, but you’d better plan for more comfortable accommodations if it gets colder or rains. Mine would demand it. She’s not much for the bike, or Moto-camping, so I go solo. Thanks for the video!
@joymachinetheshow Жыл бұрын
Cle Elum is a great spot! Yeah the lean to is pretty cozy but not great for rain - lucky for us rain is pretty rare here in the summer and we can plan around it. Thanks for watching and for the comment!

The simple approach was my favorite aspect. I like the Keep It Simple approach as well, although I'm an engineer so I tend more toward the high tech geeky version of ultralight simplicity. I do love seeing how other people motorcycle camp. I wanted a motorcycle lean-to tent like the one shown in the video, but I greatly prefer to hammock camp, and even more so as I age and sleeping on the ground becomes problematic.

First time viewer. Enjoyed. BUT PLEASE, get a set of Rok Straps.. I almost lost an eye pulling on a bungee strap as NIKA was doing. Hot day, got impatient, kept pulling harder and harder then WHAM.. I fell to the ground my right hand under my left eye... started to lift my head and felt drip.. drip.. drip on the back of my hand. Thought sure it was the fluid from my eye. Fortunately, it was "only" blood from the slashed eyebrow the metal hook had torn through. I looked like a movie monster for six weeks. Never again. Rock straps aren't cheap, but life without a left eye would have been worse.
@joymachinetheshow2 жыл бұрын
Wow, crazy! Rok straps, I will check them out! Thanks for watching and for the tip, glad you kept your eye, yikes.
@richardmourdock27192 жыл бұрын
@@joymachinetheshow I was very, very lucky. Had zero vision in that eye for about a week. Doc though for a time I'd detached the retina... but once the fluid in the eye managed to filter out the blood within it, all returned to normal. But I'm a bit of an Evangelist for EYE safety whenever I see someone tugging on an bungee cord. Even a set of ratchet straps would be better as they hold stuff tight and never slip, but rok straps are great.

This is not a criticism so don't take anything I'm about to say negatively. There's something luring about keeping things simple or minimalist. Your gear ... like, what gear[?] resembles something like a cowboy bed roll... a tarp ... and I guess something to boil water in and your bike is kind if like a good old loveable horse and together you're making your way west. You have zero creature comforts and you don't seem to need any. That's pretty cool. Some people pack everything they can fit and go to a lot of expense to buy expensive gear, and a roomy tent and a stove and on-and-on and many probably wish they had more room to pack more crap. I think your doing it better with far less crap with one exception. As long as there are two of you, it would be wise to invest in a good 3 season lightweight tent. A cold rainy night on a windswept prairie under that convoluted minimalistic shelter your using would be a very miserable experience and a good tent would offer protection from the elements. Other than that, keep on keepin-on. Good video and good luck in your adventures. Edit... several minutes after posting the above, I thought to myself... Heck, you two may well start a new trend in moto camping? The lesser and lighter - the better. Still, a good tent might save you a trip down hypothermia lane and that might put an end to what could evolve into a whole new culture of moto minimalist camping.. I wish you well.

Hey thanks for taking the time to write a great comment. Yeah when the weather is cold we for sure have a few things to learn as far as keeping warm and a 3 season tent might be one of those things. We like it alot - some condensation inside when it's cold but definitely a great option for motorcycles!
@ItzRoger2 жыл бұрын
Did you guys have to set up camera angles and go back to pick them up just for the shot? Because that's an absolutely respectable effort. Definitely adds to the video for sure!
@joymachinetheshow2 жыл бұрын
We had done that several times and it was difficult. Thanks a lot, thanks for checking out the video.

Beautiful video, really loved sharing the adventures with you guys. I love the black helmet, what brand is that?
@joymachinetheshow2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks so much! The black helmet is a gloss black McHal helmet. You can find them at mchalhelmets.com or the Bratstyle USA webshop. Cheers.

that's the state of Washington? i had no idea Washington had that kind of scenery. that was like in the desert. that's really beautiful. i do have to say y'all are hardcore. your handlebars looked pretty rusty, speedo doesn't work, bags need bungee cords. cool tent though. bike seem to run good, sounds great. cool video. being honest, see what happens before i sub. be safe.

Fair enough David thanks for your feedback. Ya bike is a little worked ha but is a good time. I too had no clue Washington had such cool desert scenery. Love it. Take care.

Just wondering if you'd recommend the tent? Been considering it for a while. Cheers!
@joymachinetheshow2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I would recommend it, mostly because it is very convenient and packs up nice n small. However, on a couple trips I have waken up to it damp on the inside, due to condensation I guess. Overall though its a good biker tent, doesn't take up much room when packed in a bag. Cheers!

bike should be facing waya from the tent so if it falls it falls away from you and not ontop of you while you sleep
@joymachinetheshow Жыл бұрын
The tent is designed this way, we put a plate under the stand so it's not an issue.
@michaelschmidt46182 жыл бұрын
Is your tent a aussie swag tent that I see on a lot of aussie bike KZbin sites?you should stake the other side so that the bike doesn't fall on you in the night, I had that happen to me one night, I made my own swag like I saw at a bike rally when my wife wanted to visit her family in wormamaroo Australia, I took my Harley over there and camped in a tent all the way to her father's house from Sidney, almost 3000 miles, and back, we went to 3 bike rallies and had a blast, lots of those tents there, made my own, a little bit larger, used it for 4 years and a guy and his wife bought it after offering me too much money for it
@joymachinetheshow2 жыл бұрын
The brand of tent is called Able Brown I think USA made but I believe some Aussi guys on social media have used it, far as I've seen anyway. Website shows it used on low side but maybe i will give it a try on the high side sometime. Your trip sounds awesome, a real dream ride for sure. Thank for sharing!
