The biggest misconception is that love is a feeling. It isn't. In fact, love is an act of will. Love is when you will still cook your man dinner and bring him a plate even when you're mad at him. Love is when you'll change the oil in your girl's car even after she said something mean or stupid that made you mad. I would argue that if you base love on a feeling, given how fickle and fluctuating feelings are, then you will always be doomed. I think you are both right and wrong. Love is DEFINITELY a "Feeling". That "feeling" grows and matures into the "love" you describe. But love is definitely a feeling in the beginning. It is such a STRONG feeling that only those who have FELT it knows what it does to you. It is kind of like a drug because under the influence it takes over a lot of you and controls you... kind of like how alcohol takes over a huge chunk of you, your ability to think, your motor skills, your speech.... Love does this also but different than alcohol. So yes it is absolutely a FEELING and it is such a STRONG feeling you cannot simply dismiss it or deny it. It is amplified when it blindsides you when you were not even looking for it... it REALLY hits you then. To say it is NOT a feeling is just... wrong. Everything revolvs around THEM, NEVER their fault... always someone else to blame, she has not lost touch with reality because that IS her reality and yes she does not even realize what she is doing because it is NORMAL behavior for her. The only thing you really didn't mention that is the OTHER big trait in narcissism is the lack of "empathy". They do not feel empathy for others but in fact they do have a TON of empathy.... only it is reserved for THEMSELVES. I worked with a narcissist that was my boss for years... For a few years I had a single word to describe him... CLUELESS... he is either clueless and has no clue what he is doing to others... or he is just an asshole. Then I found out what narcissism is and yep... he is just CLUELESS.... their brains are wired differently than others. They cannot "fix" it or "change" it... it is just the way they are. They do not have empathy so hurting someone in their manipulation to self service themselves so they are "clueless" as to the hurt they cause. BUT... they can TRAIN themselves to UNDERSTAND that when they do THIS it makes other people PISSED OFF and it HURTS them. So they CAN know and understand that if... then... type of ideology so they cannot understand the "feeling" of the other person but they can absolutely KNOW that IF they do this THEN that is what happens. Pick your battles to fight... find a way to not engage with her about it... because that just results in her being the innocent one, EVERYONE ELSE is at fault and she is the victim... You know... the BRICK WALL you beat your head against.... Don't ENGAGE about it... blow it off and soon after do the exact same thing to HER... and yes... she will become unhinged... it will be the END OF THE WORLD as she rants and raves about what YOU did to her.... and when she calms down a little you simply say it SUCKS HUH? Remember this morning or yesterday morning... you did that to ME or WHOEVER ... it don't FEEL good does it? But it has to be short enough time for them to remember actually doing it... it will implant a CONNECTION between their ACTION and the EFFECT of their action and they will FEEL the hurt caused the one it was directed to... she won't feel YOUR pain... but HER pain when you did it to HER and she still can't feel YOUR pain but she now has a connection between what she DOES and how it affects YOU when she does it... because you made HER feel it for HERSELF. It works... and it DOES allow them to not KNOW the pain they cause but to at least UNDERSTAND that when they do THIS then THAT happens and also FEEL the pain of THAT happens to other becuase it SUCKED for them. It's not that they WON'T change, or CAN'T change... its the fact that they are CLUELESS that they are even DOING the bad thing. I am not a psychologist but this method comes from experience, real world experience dealing with a narcissist that even had position and title above mine and the "power" to rule the underlings under him. Psychologist will tell you they are not capable of "fixing" their condition, they are just wired that way and cannot change the way they are... but this method does allow them to LEARN and KNOW that what they do will do that to you when they do it... It is the best you can hope for and at least it is proven to work... at least on THIS narcissist I dealt with... and even then I had to pick and choose the battles I fought with him. I quite liked a woman at work, probably about 10 years older than me. We seemed to have chemistry, staring into each others eyes long after we finished talking and couldn’t help but simile. It seemed like there was tension there too at times if we didn’t talk, almost as if we weren’t purposefully talking to each other because we wanted to other one to say something first. I also got the feeling that she didn’t like me talking to this other woman that she didn’t get along with, as if I didn’t want to talk to her, when in fact the opportunity was true. I would catch her staring at me from across the room, I would just look back. If one of us was walking past we would stare in each others eyes for a while and smile. Just recently she seemed to up the ante, one day she just stared at me like she was in love, she seemed a bit more nervous around the whole staring and smiling thing. That’s when I think I fell in love. Who knows? Maybe she just liked staring at people, how do I know she wasn’t just trying to manipulate me? She’s an immigrant and maybe that sort of intensity is normal where she is from. Sometimes I think she may have liked my friend more though, he would make her laugh more whereas I would be a bit more serious. Although it didn’t seem like he had the same connection with her as I did, she would bring him books and find excuses to talk to him. Maybe she just found me attractive and wasn’t into my personality as much. I’d never been in a situation where I was doing this intense flirting thing with a woman I really liked. I don’t think anyone else saw what was going on though, so it’s pretty much ignored if I bring it up. My friend would say she would outrageously flirt with him. Here’s the main thing though, she’s married. So, is she just playing games and wants the attention? When I didn’t speak to her for a whole day she started to cry. Was this because she wasn’t getting that daily validation or that she actually liked me? I really liked her, I couldn’t wait to see her everyday. I would imagine being in a relationship with her and generally just being loving. She, on the other hand, may not have really cared at all. When one’s understanding of love is that love is a “feeling” it’s also easy to believe that love is gone once it no longer feels the same, and then to act on that by giving up on the relationship assuming love has gone. If people believe that they will be inclined to bail rather than do the necessary things to rekindle those feelings through actually living out what true love is, if that makes sense. There is a huge difference between “falling in love” and real love. When people speak of “falling in love” they knowingly or not speak of a self-centered thing. A feeling of pleasure, the desire for gratification and feeling the gamut of chemical-induced reactions and emotions that accompany becoming addicted to someone new is not really love, those are things mistakenly called love. We all know inwardly, or should know anyway, what this really is- desire- but to make it sound respectable people come up with terms like “falling in love.” Such feelings can begin to happen immediately upon meeting someone and there is no guarantee that these feelings are going to last or that they represent any greater truth. “Falling in love” (feeling desire) has nothing to do with what love actually is. The term is greatly misleading. People don’t want to seem thirsty so instead they choose “love” as a cute substitute word for desire. It sounds higher and better to tell someone you love them than it does to say that you desire them. But desire and loving the time one spends with someone is not the same thing as actually loving someone. That definition is all wrong. On the other hand actual love when shown has true substance beyond any emotions or feelings. Over time the accumulation of benefits given and the weight of true acts of love give proof of the existence of love. Love is a verb, it is an action word. One cannot without lying claim to love someone or to have loved someone unless or until that has been proven over a period of time and consistently. Love (not the feelings that people call love, just love by its correct definition) can only be confirmed following action and can only be revealed and proven with hindsight. Love is the opposite of self-centered feelings. It involves placing the well-being of another over one’s own feelings. Love is something sacrificial (not in a religious sense, rather it involves the actual sacrifice of self-will in the caring and providing for another) and results in tangible, materialized and infinitely valuable benefits to the other person. Sure one can promise to another to truly love them- but whether that promised love is true can only be determined through the unfolding of time as love is given and tangible benefits are produced. Someone just meeting another person or only just entering into a relationship with not yet having had any opportunity to live out a life displaying actual love on a day-to-day basis can not truthfully say to that other person, yet, that they love them without it being untruthful. And yet people say, “I love you” all the time to someone they’ve just met. Well no, sorry, you don’t and haven’t loved them yet. What such people are really saying is, “I desire you and gosh I really like how I feel when I’m around you!” If two people feel desire, tell each other they love each other but then only proceed to gratify their feelings and never give true, sacrificial love to one another that relationship will run out of steam fast because all they’ve done was cater to self-gratification. When the initial romantic feelings lessen as they inevitably will there’s no solid foundation underneath for that relationship to stand upon. People end up “disappointed in love” or feeling that “there’s no such thing.” And that’s the issue I have with the vast majority of dating advice videos. They perpetuate the teaching and leading people to believe that their own feelings are love and that the techniques to connect with someone for self-gratification are proper ways to show love. It really does matter what definitions we use. If we wish for and pursue real things and if we want those real things to last it’s important that we not confuse how to obtain something real with how to obtain fleeting gratification. It’s important that we not confuse our first steps toward something real with the thing which is real itself. Everyone wants true, real love. It’s not easy to come by. But it’s easy for a content creator to promise a path to Love and instead give people easy, workable tips on how to achieve mere self-gratification (sex) and pass such methods off as the way to actually get Love. That’s disingenuous. Sure, it’s theoretically possible that a tinder hookup might result in love, one never knows! But if I put out a video on ‘how to find love’ and the content was basically ‘how to swipe left and hook up’ that wouldn’t be honest. My vid should be called ‘How to hook up’ so as not to mislead and waste the time of a person looking for info on love rather than info on easy hook-ups. There’s a difference between meeting a person and keeping them. The majority of dating advice videos focus only on meeting someone. There are endless videos on that but very few on how to love and keep someone long term avoiding break-ups and divorce. Videos which claim to be about love should actually be about love, not about how to satisfy one’s own desires for sex, imho. Finding and keeping true love is a lot harder to do and much more important than simply knowing how to strike up a conversation, establish a connection and determine whether the other person wants to get laid. Not that that’s not good info to know but labeling feelings and desires ‘Love’ is to confuse the definition of something lasting and real with that of something temporary. That encourages people to unwittingly lie to one another and to mistake the result they get as a shot at the ‘real deal’ when in fact it’s anything but, and when these temporary ‘relationships’ quickly dissolve it reinforces the idea that true Love doesn’t exist, only passing pleasures. In turn people get disillusioned; just read the comments section under any of these vids and you’ll find disappointed people who have come to believe there is no such thing as true love because heck even the “experts” don’t know!

same shit happened with me at work, for 6 months me and this woman ate breakfast and lunch together everyday, I knew she was attracted to me, she's about 7 yrs older and at first I had no interest sexually I just wasn't bothered, she asked me to go walking with her along the beach front one day walking back from the canteen over to the main hospital building and I said no then when she asked me to do some work in her apartment I said no, when she asked to watch a movie I said no, I went to the pub on her birthday and opened up a bit and kissed her but after I text and said I didn't want anything serious, she stopped talking with me which hurt bad, we did start talking again ( mistake ) after 2/3 months we're texting and I ask her to spend an evening together, she doesn't respond, I stop speaking with her, she ends up in A+E by the end of the week feeling sick, she thought I'd be working there, I go to see her and we have a very long talk, she either couldn't remember or said I misinterpreted everything she said and said we are friends, when she rejected me I felt intense emotional pain and when I did it to her she felt the same so much so she felt physically sick, I no longer talk to her we act like we are invisible to each other( it's easier ), I've never felt anything like it in my life and don't want to again, I still have to see her but avoid her as much as possible, this connection wasn't like ooh I wanna fuck this woman it was something way way beyond that like we could feel each others emotions, so anyway I feel your pain man and know exactly what you're talking about, all the best from Ireland

Because the parents are not teaching "respect" to the children for the most part.. and the "red ass" syndrome has become "child abuse" for the most part... now when they do stupid shit or things that they shouldn't do... its a "time out" to go "think" about what you did. I can tell you I got a case of "red ass" a time or 2 growing up... got my OWN switch, and thought I outsmart them by picking the one I wanted vs the one they wanted lol. The WORST was the "sit and think about it" while the "red ass" comes later on after I thought about it.... not knowing when you gona get it, you think a little HARDER about what you did lol. Child abuse... um... no... I was never abused as a kid. I don't hold it against them. Mom/Dad both were not religious, didn't go church.... cussed like sailors.... and to this very day it feels "wrong" to cuss in front of them.... even though they have "sailor mouth" themselves lol. When a word does slip out, I still feel the "guilt" of doing it. They were not even overly "strict" either. The talk about alcohol was that they rather me not do it but if I do it then do it at home instead of trying to hide it and then trying to get home after... rather me do it AT home than out there trying to hide it. Same with tobacco. Had a friend over one day and he had a cigarette and mom came in and he threw it trying to hide it and guess what? She gave HIM the same speech I got... If you gonna do it, don't try and HIDE it and burn the house down in the process. So... ya I got "red ass" a time or 2 or 3... or lol. But I was NOT abused. When you see an article in the paper that says "6 or 7 year old shoots mom/dad because they took away their XBox as punishment"... I think it is a CLUE that "time outs" are not exactly WORKING very well and maybe "RED ASS" syndrome needs to make a comeback. If you have a dog that chews up your shoe and you tell the dog NO! BAD DOG! but do it in the "Good Boy" voice.... what is the dog going to think when you say NO! BAD DOG!? He will continue chewing up your shoes because there is no consequences FROM chewing up your shoe.... unless you have an ASSHOLE dog that KNOWS he not supposed to... runs in and grabs your shoe and sits down and looks u in the eye with the shoe in his mouth and sits just far enough away that you can't reach him and soon as u go to get up, takes off with your shoe.... anyway!!!! lol
