I think it's awesome that Joyce accepts singers who are not already incredibly vocally advanced, so that singers like Miya get a chance to learn and develop from such an amazing singer and teacher. Every single singer has been in Miya's spot of vocal development, and she is doing a fantastic job at taking on Joyce's advice and applying what she can in the moment. So, if anyone is watching this and can only comment on how much they don't like listening to Miya, sort your stuff out. It's a masterclass and a learning process, not a finished product or performance. #teamjoyce

Anna, you rock my world. Thank you so much for this really supportive, and truthful comment amidst some very not nice ones on all my videos! Such is life, but I wish the general public knew how daunting this is and how a masterclass is not a performance. All my best to you! Cheers! XO-Miya

I’m currently a freshman getting my undergraduate degree in vocal performance, it is truly inspiring to see Miya on my screen. She is by far my favorite to watch because I can relate so much to her singing. Masterclasses are for everyone. I’m learning way more from Miya’s performances than I have from watching several other singers from the entire series. Keep doing what you’re doing, Miya. Seeing your videos only makes me push myself more to achieve my dreams and I believe you’re showing an example for so many young performers.

A lot of vocal coaching is imaginary work, because you don't see your instrument (your vocal chords, your diaphragm, your abs from the inside). Your teacher has to have endless imagination to get you to do what she can hear you CAN do. Before you do. Before you even acknowledge you can do it. Joyce is brilliant that way. Genial.

Isn't she incredible?! Couldn't agree more.

A singing coach must help a singer find the right sensation of resonance by finding where in the voice correct resonance already exists using the correct combination of vowel, register, and dynamic. This sensation can then be transferred to other pitches and vowels, slowly opening up the voice. Joyce does nothing of this. Their voices doesnt improve. And a coach can't know how a voice will sound, when free and open. When the voice is opened, you will know how it will sound. The searching for a certain sound is what's killing voices today.
