So great that maestro Seguin put the clarinetist on the spotlight for a solo that is as hard as the singing in this aria. Both should shine! ❤️

Pretty normal in a concert setting to have the clarinetist up front with the soloist. I have performed it both in front and from within the orchestra. I actually like being in the orchestra as it gives more of an echo effect to the voice particularly in the opening.

Those who have seen my KZbin comments throughout all of Mozart’s works will be surprised to find that THIS is my ALL TIME favorite aria by Mozart, and yes, I am taking all things into account, whether they be the early operas, the late operas, the religious works, or the concert arias. It’s just so perfect in demonstrating that very youthful, dizzying, and vigorous passion of love that Sesto feels. And what a wonderful performance!

Joyce is the top performer of our time. Kv 621 La clemenza di Tito was composed 1791 which the year Mozart passed away. Despite the high Kv number, it didn't ranked like Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutte. I believe the difference is Lorenzo Da Ponte's collaboration with Mozart. The creative writing opera's libretto is just important as musical composition. That's why Mozart and Lorenzo Da Ponte's commissions were the same. One of Mozart's letter to his father showed that Salieri may not share Lorenzo Da Ponte's talents. Mozart maximized the talent of Lorenzo Da Ponte's beautiful libretto and showed the world that Le nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni and Cosi fan tutte are Italian opera's true Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

I was wondering the same! Might be part of the performance, as if Sesto was fighting with the idea of killing Tito, as if trying to run away from Vitellia's request, as if he can't believe what she asked him, as if there was not enough room to fight the feeling of guilt, despair, all of it for love... I guess...

Michael Brock it’s most likely just an outlet for tension. Not bad tension, but it takes a lot of effort to sing something so cleanly, and apparently effortlessly. Sutherland’s hand would shake or twist back and forth, Callas throat bulged etc. etc. every singer has something akin to a tell and DiDonato presents in her moving feet. When she’s in a gown no one notices...

Disgraceful wearing a pantsuit for a performance.
@juttae80053 жыл бұрын
She's playing a pants role here. The character is the young man Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito. So a pantsuit makes much more sense than a dress. And even if it was a woman it would be unusual but definitely not disgraceful.
@direfranchement3 жыл бұрын
@@juttae8005 But she isn't playing a role. She's giving a concert. This isn't the actual opera, just an aria from it.
@juttae80053 жыл бұрын
@@direfranchement She's trying to help people enter into the story for a few minutes. I think it can create a different energy if a woman in a pretty dress sings that she's going to murder her friend for her beloved and if a woman with a strong stance in a pantsuit does the same thing. It would just come off a bit more artificial in the dress. As if the drama wasn't important on the concert stage. She was wearing a dress for other arias she sang that night. And I think she looks great in the pantsuit so I just don't see what is so offensive about this. Hope you enjoyed the aria anyway!
