So here's how I see it: In the beginning they realize there's nothing left of their relationship anymore. The atmosphere is cold and the woman cries, the finality of the whole situation is starting to set. In the woods they're dragging the dead corpse of the other - the one they once loved but lost and eventually killed by trying too hard yet still without being present. They've been carrying this burden for what seems like forever. When they finally meet it's a moment of happiness for both, it's been a tough, long journey getting there. They're finally getting themselves back from the bad relationship and also find comfort in seeing they've both done just as wrong. In the end they're standing on the cliff and have decided to end their relationship together once and for all, having found peace in the decision to end it in order to truly be happy.
