I don't think the story will turn into the Ancient Kingdom being evil somehow and the 20 Kingdoms having some sort of actual good justification to destroy them. Not every villain in One Piece has followed the trope of "I actually had good reasons to do evil". Oda has shown us that, he doesn't show us the "sad backstory" as something that is meant to serve as a justification but more as to explain where these characters come from, even if the thing they're doing is absolutely and completely unjustified. Take for example Kaido, Big Mom and Doflamingo. Rather I want to think that it's more a "clash of ideals" rather than "actually the Ancient Kingdom were the bad guys and the World Govt. have been the good guys all this time". Also nuclear energy isn't as bad as it looks, it's probably one if not the best current source of energy we have right now, both in terms of potential and also in terms of the environment, the thing that is currently killing the environment isn't radioactive waste but carbon. But anyway, I don't think Oda wants to turn One Piece into some sort of poster enviromental campaign so we understand the dangers of nuclear energy or something like that, but rather than anything good in the world can be used for evil or nefarious purposes if someone really tries, it's not a coincidence that Vegapunk is a reference to Albert Einstein, even more when you consider that the "Mother Flame" is essentially One Piece's version of nuclear energy, where he wanted to use said energy for good but then people in power wanted said energy to be used for war, evil and control, you could even say that the Lulusia incident is pretty much a reference to the atomic bombs used in WW2, considering the Mother Flame is nuclear energy and said energy used, not for the betterment of society, instead as a weapon to exterminate a group of innocent people and I think thats the underlying message that is probably going to be presented, that the Ancient Kingdom was a civilization that were super technologically advanced and were developing new technologies to make the world a better place and then evil people wanted to take that technology, turn it to do evil and to use it as a means of control. I think what Vegapunk said is because he wants people to judge history by themselves, remember that Vegapunk was a close friend to Dragon and the revolutionaries. To me it makes no sense that the World Govt. would hide information that would help their cause, considering that they try their best to convince people that they're the good guys, so if the Ancient Kingdom were the "bad guys" and the World Govt. were actually doing "evil things for the good reasons", the Void Century wouldn't be a thing, everybody would be taught about what happened there and everybody would know that the World Govt. do what they do for good reasons, the fact that they not only hide the info, but also literally exterminate anyone who even dares to even know what happened, just tells you enough that it's obvious the Void Century doesn't put the World Govt. into a good light, instead it will unmask them as the "bad guys" the whole time, the only people that have been actively fighting the World Govt. are the Revolutionaries, everyone else loves and simps for the World Govt, it would make no sense that they would hide info that would bring even more peope to their side. Remember that they're not just hiding like technology-related stuff, they're literally hiding absolutely everything, even knowing the name of the Ancient Kingdom is punished with death.

I just rewatched episode 783 and it opens with the talk of the maffia guy to Sanji telling about the cartoon. And he speaks of a massive robot that was the hero of the navy, saying the navy is always right. Now i imagine the robot we have seen on Egghead was maybe forced to fight for the navy or worldgovernement!

I think Joyboy stole the Eternal Flame from the Ancient Kingdom and before he lossed the battle against the 20 kings and Imu, Joyboy hid the eternal flame at Raftel and that is the One Piece but the true nature of the Eternal Flame is to activate the ancient Weapons and destroy the Red Line so the seas can all come together, creating the All Blue, thus making the world in One Piece. Then Luffy can party with the world which is most likely his dream. Joyboy stealing the eternal flame could also be why he is considered a pirate because he probably stole it to prevent it getting into the wrong hands. This gets reinforced by Whitebeard saying that when the One Piece is found, there will be a huge war for it. Interestingly enough, the Eternal Flame is the catalyst for what Joyboy's world unification dream.

I think its more likely that Imu and the 20 kingdoms wanted to use the Mother Flame to create weapons but the Ancient Kingdom didnt want to use the power source like that. Thus starting the war, and thus why Imu still to this day is using the weapon to erase islands(Enies Lobby, Lulusia). I also think the Ancient Kingdom likely are the ones who created the Devil Fruits and its possible the 20 Kingdoms were against that as well. Or possibly the Ancient Kingdom created the Devil Fruits in order to FIGHT the 20 Kingdoms but failed by being flooded/sunk into the sea. PS: I think you're absolutely correct in your assessment of The Mother Flame and whatever Power Source the Ancient kingdom used being a non renewable fuel. Thus why Imu and the World Government needed Vegapunk to create it again because the original source likely raised the sea levels after its use and burned out afterward. Now that they have the Mother Flame the same will likely happen again and the sea will continue to rise and the Mother Flame too will burn out eventually. PPS: I think an alternate view on Devil Fruit creation was that it was seen as just a quirky way to enhance human life/evolution. Why hire a maid when you could just eat the human human fruit and grow arms and clones to do work for you! What better way to refrigerate your food then the ice ice fruit? Talk about renewable resources, devil fruits are an extremely efficient way to power and produce many things. Enels fruit alone could power multiple cities all by itself.

I think Vegapunk was not refering to the WG of Imu when he said he could not judge the one who killed him. When I first read the chapter I thought it was a big brain move to place blaim away from the Strawhats, who the world thinks are holding Vegapunk hostage. But we now know the video was made a few days before they arrived, and he would not know if Kid or Law or Luffy would come to Egghead. The WG's story is Vegapunk betrayed the world and is being judged so they don't have to frame anyone for his death. So I think the message is for his friend Kizaru. Its a way to tell him even after his death Kizaru was not evil or a bad person for doing what he did.

The organization MADS is a reference to the Mutually Assured Destruction acronym. Also, Joy Boy looks kind of like Jesus. I do believe Jesus was often portrayed with a woven wooden crown similar to a straw hat. Maybe Joyboy really wanted the power to help people but he was usurped or co-opted by the twenty kingdoms ( Western alliances). Notice how people who claim to have heavy Christian influences are often the exact opposite of what Jesus actually stood for. Also, Jesus/Joy Boy was likely executed for the sins of others he had no intention of causing issues but whoever IMU represents felt or convinced themselves they had the moral integrity to ensure the power didn't fall into the wrong hands.

Great video. Ive seen people who think Imu is going to just going to be irredeemably evil, but I fully expect Imu to have one of the saddest and most complicated backstories in the series. Luffy reignites dreams in the people he defeats. I think that Imu's motivations were at one point good like you said.

Imu as one of the 20 kingdoms ruler must have had his own island like Doflamingo had Dressrosa. What if he destroyed his own kingdom with the ancient weapon and blamed it on Joyboy to unite the 20 nations against him. His destroyed kingdom could be what is now Enies Lobby. Imagine the 20 kingdoms building a symbol of Justice i.e. Enies Lobby as a memento to what Joyboy supposedly destroyed. Lily could have later realised what Imu did and left.

I think that Joyboy started with good intentions. He was Luffy ,but as people opposed him and he had to fight (remember he did this for 100 years) he became more like Blackbeard. At the same time Imu, which at the beginning of the Century was probably similar to Koby, after 100 years of war devolved into a cold and manipulative person that would do everything in order to keep Order in the World. As such the void Century becomes also a debate between Freedom and Anarchy. And that in a World of Anarchy, everyone loses. So some sort of Order must exist.

I find this analysis interesting! It's not a theory breaker but a small clarification: Fusion does not create long term nuclear waste like our current fission technology. Since they were so advanced and the power is likened to the sun which is powered by fusion we should assume that it's related to that. The most practical thing to fuse is hydrogen to helium, and hydrogen is not limitless but it might as well be. It's by far the most abundant element in the universe, including the air, the ocean, all organic matter etc. More likely just the sheer amount of energy or its application might have been problematic.

Oda usually likes to make his villains into hypocrites so if we take Saturn for example he likes to call people insects and experiment on them. So he probably once was a normal human and fought against human experimentation. And if we think this way then Imu who is now trying to actively destroy the world probably wanted to protect it. So what i think happened during the void century is that the Ancient Kingdom worked on a project to undo the red line which they inherited after some cataclysmic event maybe a polar shift. The project was in its final stage with Joyboy as the final piece of the project. However due to the length of the project modified humans like fishmen and lunarians were more and more seen as monsters by the 20 kingdoms. This combined with deeming the destruction of the redline as to risky the 20 kingdoms rebelled and overthrew the Ancient kingdom with help from within. Joyboy took to the sea to finish the project but never reached Laughtale.

Oda is a pretty competent writer and I feel like there's a ton of research that's gone into One Piece. Uncovering amazing past technology isn't really a thing that happens, so I don't expect to see it in One Piece. There are things like Roman concrete, Greek fire, and the Antikythera mechanism with uncertain histories, though, that have modern analogs. I think the technology of the past will be revealed to have functioned like that in One Piece. A nuclear energy analog is super messy, too, because nuclear fuel is treated and rendered inert before disposal. And all of the nuclear waste in the world is fractions of the pollution, waste, and harm from widespread energy sources from the smoke from coal to the resource extraction required (and violence) to make EVs. Bad-mouthing nuclear like that just wouldn't make sense for someone who appears to be so informed. And it's complicated. One Piece, for it's nuance, depth, and world-building is about a rubber boy, so over-engineering a solution that has to into aspects that then account for all the moving pieces feels like it misses the point. I don't have a satisfactory theory yet, but I think it'll involve the moon as the other 5 missing moons are likely the 5 Elders (see the 5 spheres on the WG flag). I think it'll involve Enel coming back. I think it'll involve Sabo being revealed to be a traitor/turncoat (SABOtage). I think it'll involve liberation as that theme is echoed in every arc and conflict. I think the Devil Fruit are evil actually and, if they have will as suggested in the text, will need to be abandoned as if casting off chains because the will of Devil Fruit has characters bending towards bondage/captivity/oppression. It would make the most sense to me if the Supreme Ruler was actually in captivity and probably on the moon - the same moon that influences the ocean to be hostile to fruit users. I think the Supreme Elder is probably a good guy and the 20 kingdoms stopped the ancient kingdom because they were a liberating force in the world. The ancient kingdom was probably messing up the bag for the rest of the world with some kind of turbo communism that would allow them to take care of everyone pretty easily. If the world is going to sink, then there's probably something down there that'll keep the world from ending. We've already seen a Sun in the sea. I don't know enough to fit it all together (I'm a spoiler-tolerant anime-only fan), but it's gotta be as simple as that. Simple. Oda's writing is so well done that it appears effortless. We're only going to be moving pieces around the proverbial board that we've already encountered. It's gonna look effortless. It's going to have been staring us in the face all along.

I like that as a simple description of arguably the best anime/manga series of all time. Indeed: what you say about centralized control, in light of carte blanche, has its amenities. Even if the wielder of such power is blinded by complacency. What keeps me on edge about One Piece is Brook, my favorite StrawHat Pirate. His relationship with Hell is so much more vivacious and charming than Zoro's. Hopefully no one misconstrues my words and assumes I'm expressing shame on Zoro.
