This reaction video is the perfect example of “you can’t please everyone”… lol we want the old Joyner. Let me tell you where I fucked up. I fucked up by doing so many 2 sided perspective records that I can’t create anything else in peace without niggaz EXPECTING everything to be that way. I cannot give niggaz 2 sided perspectives on every record my bro. That would be predictable. I gave you what I WOULD DO in my 24 hours. Kill pedophiles, take from rich and give to poor, give back to the community and make the White House invest back into the block, etc. sometimes I wanna be on my gangsta shit Becuz that’s how I’m feelin. Sometimes I wanna be on my lovey dovey for the hoes type Shìt. Even on my early mixtapes I did that. Shìt ain’t new. End of the day, you can’t please everybody. And I understand that. However, understand there are many versions of me. If you don’t fuck with it I respect your opinion and I ain’t even mad at it. But stop expecting everything to be a perspective 2 sided story and then getting mad when I take a different approach. Love always ♥️

I get where you coming from However I don't think it's realistic to want an artist to only do one thing, especially when that thing is something phenomenal. I feel like we cant expect every song from Joyner to be some god tier think piece, you can't compete in this era without having some form of commercial appeal. Not saying It's okay to do mostly that but if he does a few songs like this inbetween the more introspective and lyrical content then it's fine, some times the aim is to make more of a bop and I think that's what this is, something to get hype off of.

From Lil Dicky's freestyle on Sway in the Morning (2019) - "All my fans are getting mad at me They just wanna hear me spazzing out But I just had to put a couple smashes out" Joyner's growing in his own way and not everybody is going to appreciate that for what it is. I don't think it's a devolution, it's more of an indication that growth is not necessarily a one-way street - there are instances where you have to regress in order to move forward. Maybe Joyner's on his thug shit recently because he's going through something mentally and is re-visiting some childhood trauma or something. Or maybe he IS doing it to game the industry somehow in a way that isn't completely obvious. Either way, the music still comes from him in a way that only he can make, and I fuck with almost everything he puts out, but I will concede that more of his tracks have been starting to sound the same lately, and I know that's something old school Joyner used to hate with a passion. I just don't view that as entirely a bad thing by itself, necessarily.
@chriscooper4205
@chriscooper4205 Жыл бұрын
I don't think anyone even suggested doing one thing - merely expressed an opinion on how he thinks he is above the whole 'gangsta shit'. There's a difference between not wanting an artist to do one certain thing and wanting them to only do one thing all the time. There's a million reasons to pick up a pen. I think it's a compliment to the artist to hold them to a standard of not needing to fall in to the common trap of what sells. And I think it's an insult to hip hop (and ourselves) when we start thinking the only way to get commercial appeal is to fall into that style. Totally understand the practicalities of life and need for commercial viability so I don't mean any hate in the slightest - can pick a million MCs where this debate isn't even worthy they are so far gone but to whom the principle applies tenfold. Totally get what you're saying too - and the beat suits the type of cadence and content - but then you kinda know what you're about to do when you pick the beat.
@beniciobonilla2271
@beniciobonilla2271 Жыл бұрын
@@chriscooper4205 Joyner isn't just "falling into that style", though. He's been coming out with different experimental content for a long time now - from what I hear he even scrapped some pieces from his newest album because he didn't think they were experimental or artistic enough. He released Broski a few months ago and Devil's Work 2 a few months before that, in-between releasing these bangers that most people still enjoy, so it's pretty obvious he's trying to hit different notes and tune in to different audiences. To say that he's staying in one lane or the other isn't necessarily the whole truth either way you think about it. Since we're on the point of holding an artist to a higher standard, I would argue this instead does him discredit, since you're not taking into consideration the entire scope and breadth of his catalogue as an artist. This isn't Stevie's first time complaining about Joyner using this style of rap in almost the same fashion either - hence the larger discussion and backlash on this video as I'm sure you've noticed - so I wasn't necessarily making a comment on his specific gripes within this video, but moreso on the gripes he's made regarding Joyner's development as a whole, which delves a little deeper than any one mere opinion. Here's a general statement that I believe regardless of the art form - I agree with you on the idea that we need not necessarily conform ourselves to the only medium that gains attention as artists, but I find it equally restrictive and oppressive to condemn those avenues of storytelling and prohibit utilizing them for little reason other than you believe you're above them; that they are unnecessary, or that you have some other sort of superiority complex.

GREAT COMMENT! I don’t waste time reading comments cause they lack substance but I agree with you and I’m glad I read it. Perspective is everything but we have to recognize the Arwork, hustle and level of ingenuity. Steve slept on this one. Joyner knows what his doing and I’m glad he brought back to this. Like Eminem when he would drop goofy songs in between masterpieces. Always remember to step back when your going to give your opinion on anything. This was hard 🔥🔥🔥

Even when he’s rapping like this, you can’t call it elementary rap. Even when doing his thug shit his rhyming and writing ability is still leagues ahead of most others doing. To me, this is versatility because he can do 2 sided perspectives as well as gangsta shit.

You passed on a great opportunity to appreciate good hip hop. Holding in old energy prevented you from truly enjoying this one and thus it projected thru this reaction. Perspective, I know, but in reality this is real hip hop. Provocative, inflammatory, risky, selfish and raw. I love it the craft. You even missed the joke at the end man, this was terrible. Scru Face Jean did justice to this. He also pointed out that this is parallel to the song by Mase ft DMX, The LOX, Black Rob- 24 hours to live, from in the days so again, real hip hop

a lot of people are saying joyner needs to get his morals in check if that’s how he’d spend his last day but they focused too much on how he said it rather than what he said. sure the stuff he was saying was violent but most of the stuff he was talking about doing was not negative. if you are one of those people look at his lyrics in those verses and then look at the state of the world. and i don’t know much of joyners personal life but i know the message of this song is that with his last 24 hours he’d send a message to change history while also carrying out some personal vendettas.

Lmao part of the problem man.. calling Stevie "too serious" because he's mature and doesn't fk with the gang shit and killing people by the masses just because they slighted you in some small way.. it's a serious topic when you talk about killing people.. this type of stuff is flooding the inner cities and poisoning the minds of young dudes, that's why we got murder rates out the ass with kids under 20 in these major cities, because they think thuggin and killing people is the cool thing to do. This world is fked up enough, we don't need record after record coming out where the only real topic is killing people, flipping drugs, and banging hos. It's such an old tired narrative and it's the whole reason we got young people in prison or the dirt, why so many kids go without fathers, why so much potential is squandered. I think people need to be more serious if your interpretation of it is thinking like a mature adult.. the downfall of our country starts with the culture revolving around the idea of devaluing human life.. why you think so many people are out there killing each other over trivial things like drugs money and hos? Because people have no respect for the value of human life.. they care more about their narcissistic selfish wants than they do for a humans life. World needs to grow up soon, start lifting each other up, not putting each other in the dirt.

Ima be honest with you bro I watched you for quite some time in the beginning and was hooked on your content because of your ability to analyze and react with the energy you had. But today about 3 years later this is the first video in a while and you seem to be tired. I think your getting board with this. I hope you regain your stance at some point. On another note with the video I agree with you on Joyner's thug lane however as a music and video producer this track really was fire. I'm not into real violence bro, love and peace for real but for entertainment purposes this had me hyped. If I had 24 known hours to live I would most likely hang out with my Dad, go see my Mother and Sister and tell them the impacts they had on my life. Forget my failures those are mine but the influences my family had on me should be known before I go.

I was waiting the whole video for him to flip it. I really thought he was going to do the whole thug thing and then flip it to something totally different, like he did with Broskie. To show that even thugs would want to choose spending time with family and doing positive things for the community if they only had 24 hours to live. The second verse could’ve have been fire if he did that.

go listen to any of Joyner old freestyles , he had the same content he does now .. he always switched it up content wise .. he just dropped the Broski video , he’s just appealing to multiple demographics ..

I agree entirely, and anyone who thinks this isn't true just needs to look at joyners views when he drops something. He drops a single and shit barely cracks 100k views in a day. People liked him and boosted him cause he was different, and then as someone else mentioned he switched up and even removed the Ye Not Crazy song and video. I think he 100% sold out but I hope he realizes this and makes some changes. The issue with the Ye thing is he made a whole song that was meant to be controversial AND was meant to say that there are issues there and reasons to not be happy about all of it, but then devils work 2 he does a complete 180 and is like "he just been messed up since his mom died". He just seems so fake now and idk who the "real" joyner even is. He seems to just pick whatever lane is mainstream, but doesn't understand that he isn't gonna get numbers doing that crap, his fan base was never mainstream kids listening to trash lyrics.
