Alright. So u say that. Then how about you listen to the song again and try and see it from a white guy's perspective: Just a normal college kid man. just scraped by to get into a community college. hes workin his ass off to study and try and get a job to provide for himself man. He just living his life. meanwhile all he sees from the black culture is all these young rappers talking about sellin drugs and killin dudes. How u think he feel about that. they makin millions off of that while hes working his ass off for months and barely scrapin enough money to eat and go to school. how u think he feels when he sees these black guys leaving their sons and wives or baby mommas. can u see the issue bruh? it aint 100% the system. let me show u.. a black guy and woman have a baby right. the black guy then leaves. first issue comes with money. That mother has to try and pay for that child to live. so what she has to do is either run 3 jobs or become a prostitute cuz the world we live in means that makes more money (which is fucked up major). so that child loks at all the guys going in and out of the house and he's thinking that that is OK. so he starts to wanna be like that. He listens to music about hoes and wants to be like that cuz its all he knows so he goes out and fucks 20 girls and gets one pregnant. he thinks "omg no i dont want that responsibility!" so he leaves the woman. (BAM REPEAT). 2nd issue. not having a father hurts. Im white alright, my father cheated and left my mom when i was 8. that shit hurts dude. u dont got the man of the house no more. u dont have someone to show u wat is right and wat is wrong. so he dont have that father hes mind gonna be the same as the man that got his mother pregnant. can u see wat im . saying bruh? the whole problem isnt just with they "system". while it does exist i agree and its fucked up. It is not impossible to get out of there. Nothing. Nothing can't stop hard work. And also u guys say u arent racist and u agree with this song but u disagree with everything the white guy is saying... U MISSED THE WHOLE POINT OF THE SONG! he is trying to bring us together. U wanna know how we do that. by sitting down at that table and talking about it. Listen to the song again bruh.

People mostly seem to react to a white man saying specific words instead of the message. There is systemic racism in America & until we fix the problem at it's core, ( Washington, police training, & education.) It’s also healthier for the whole country. Right now USA is divided, everything relies on individual opinions, even things that shouldn’t. It’s a problem. USA should reconnect its people, you should respect each others and be less judgmentals (it goes both for left and right). This song is a pure gem. The only issue I have with it is the whole Obama thing. If Obama was re-elected 3 times, it’s because the majority voted for him. And if Trump has been elected, it’s because the majority has voted for him. It has nothing to do with individuals and people shouldn’t get impacted by these votes (both left and right). It’s also important to add that a government governs. The social issues are handled by the people. And it’s time for USA to acknowledge it instead of blaming everyone for these issues.

They didnt have guns but a neighbor of the customer thought “they had rifles and were going to shoot up the neighborhood.” The “rifles” were their shovels they were using to dig with. If you think thats an understandable confusion just imagine if you got the cops called on you at your desk job cuz someone thought your phone was a pistol and the cops were ready to shoot you and take your life because of that... because you were just minding your own business.

That skin color should be an attribute like hair color or eye color. This video isn't tearing apart the white guys arguments or the black guys arguments. Its taking both and saying that yall are both racist and until you see that you cant possibly be equal because then he will always be able to say a word you cant and he will always struggle more than you and he will always be more privileged and he will always be DIFFERENT. Thats the problem. Im all for equal rights for all races, but that doesn't mean races should be separate. People need to stop advocating for separate but equal and start advocating for equal. @@snip2615 Did you not listen to what they had to say at all?? About the "y'all" thing?? Stop using a broad label to describe the actions of all. "Mexican's don't cause problems" is just putting everyone into that box of good or evil again. On the same note as yours I could talk about how fucked up Mexico is and the shit the cartels do to people (and the same for my family in Columbia).The prevalence of torture in Mexico is ridiculous (by both mexican security and civilians) and if you can't acknowledge that I highly doubt you are Mexican (or at least maybe you're Mexican-American). I've had TOO MANY friends whose parents fled from Mexico due to threats of torture/ cartel issues. Not nice to be shoved into a stereotypical box is it man? No one group is a saint and no one group is a sinner. We're all collectively humans and should be judged by our individual actions and not the actions of a group we fall under (if that group has no intrinsic belief set [i.e. race]). Acknowledge the misdeeds your "group" has caused but don't judge or let yourself be judged for something you haven't done.

This song is a double edged sword some true statements on both sides but it really makes you think.
@mikepiazza20006 жыл бұрын
I think the point is to demonstrate that both are wrong because both are racist. The common ground between both mens arguments is that both are being racist to the other, even if unknowingly, but the beauty of it to me is that Joyner finds a way to humanize both of them. The hug at the end represents a willingness to understand the others argument and in a way to accept that they themselves have misjudges the other. In other words both men are intelligent enough to recognize that their arguments were hyperbolic. Every line in the song has a grain of truth but none of it is actually true because the truth is between them and the only way to get there is to sit down and listen to eachother. This shit is beautiful and it absolutely disgusts me that Joyner didnt get a Grammy for this. This is some of the most impressive pieces of writing Ive ever seen and Im not limiting that to hiphop or even to music in general

It is how our brains work. It's a sense of judgement. We judge every situation the moment we enter it in a quick moment. Since our brains aren't aware of all the details to the specific situation they fill in the blanks with what it already knows from elsewhere. Then if we stay in the situation the unknown get filtered out and replaced by facts. This is a defense mechanism so we can react instantly to danger. Since it is a defense against danger those unknowns are treated as dangerous so our brains flood with adrenaline and other chemicals to put us in a position where we can better defend ourselves the moment danger first shows itself. You can place the hood style looking like criminals as the same as middle easterners dressing the same as terrorists. The dress the same because they come from the same culture which scares people who don't know yet if they are a terrorist or just a normal person from the middle east. We can't fix that our brains work this way but what we can do is remove the general thoughts on these cultures. If we learn how it really is and ignore that there are some bad people doing the same things as them then our brains won't put us on the defensive. Sorry this was so long, I didn't know how to describe it in a shorter way.

It the culture that decides to dress that way and cops won't go after a black man in a tie because he more than likely didn't commit a crime. J Cole What exactly are they relating to? The only thing in this they could have possibly dealt with is being pulled over, they don't have grandparents that were slaves. Black lives matter is a joke, what kind institutionalized racism could they even face. It's easily compared to feminists, people just want to feel like they're opressed.

I'm black, and i agree, that how you present yourself says a lot. Obviously, today, police are based around stereotypes. A black man sagging, wearing a durag, baggy shorts and whatever is most of the time going to get stopped, even if they may be good people. It's all because of stereotypes. If a guy wearing a suit and guy wearing plain clothes were both suspects, the police would be more suspicious of The plain clothes guy, not because of skin, but because of authority. Wearing a suit kind of shows you're big and important, so when you dont you look like a normal random person. But hey, this is just my opinion
@MrsLegitParttwo7 жыл бұрын
Da First off, quit lying, YOU ARE NOT BLACK! Second, so are you saying that if Black men just wore suits & ties 24/7, that they’d no longer get targeted, profiled, & harassed by police!!???
@Dietskittles7 жыл бұрын
MrsLegit Parttwo It’s more about perception. The police are definitely going to be more wary around some pants sagging “ghetto” looking black guy than a black guy dressed preppy or “proper”. It’s not right, but it happens all the time. The white side of the story was arguing that if a black guy stopped dressing “black” than the cops would leave him alone, but in reality, you can’t ask someone to abandon their culture just so they can feel safe. Another person’s culture shouldn’t be judged or feared. For the record, I am black. It’s ridiculous how you thought you could tell someone otherwise. You don’t know and you can’t tell based solely on a person’s opinion.
@MrsLegitParttwo7 жыл бұрын
Yvonne Johnson That’s BS! You have white boys who’ll dress like that. You have all the gothic looking, emo, & bikers in all black, etc, & the police don’t run around chasing them! I’ve witnessed it myself. The clothing thing is just a cop out! Look at that Black French tennis player. He was dressed very nicely & casual, & was still profiled, harassed, & beaten up! If ALL Black men wore suits & ties everyday, then it’d be suits & ties they’d racial profile associated with Blacks! Please don’t fall for the bull! Yes, I can tell for the most part, not always, when someone’s in digital black face.
@Dietskittles7 жыл бұрын
What are you talking about? You're arguing points I didn't even make here. I didn't say the police never harass black men who don't dress like that, nor did I say that police will profile anyone dressed like that. All I said was that the police are more wary of gangster looking black guys than "regular" ones. That's it. Dressing a different way doesn't even matter, the real point is that those kind of guys shouldn't be profiled in the first place. It's a part of black culture and shouldn't be targeted. Like the white sided verse in the video where the white guy expected black men to give up their culture just so the police would leave them alone. That's not right, though I admit, I wouldn't mind if some guys pulled up their pants a bit, lol.

Those aren’t Truths. Those are stereotypes. Not ever black guy is like that and not every white is like this. But remember these are both perspectives. It’s not about what’s right or what’s wrong the point of the video is to put our differences aside and at least try to understand each other and the different cultures to be civilized and become a union. In the end it should not matter. We are all humans who have to live together, and shit we are so worried about white and Black when possible there’s gonna be a war, put our pride aside and fight to keep living 💯 accept that we’re different and embrace it. That’s the key to world peace but we’re so stuck on white and black and religion and politics and who’s gay and who’s not, what does it matter? We are All beautiful and we should all be treated equally. The world is going to probably go to shit soon and we’re gonna waste it trying to figure out who is right and who is wrong, STOP it just figure each other out Love each life’s to short for all of this bullshit yo* don’t know How racism and discrimination for LGBT+ and Religion went on for so long, this is something we knew for Years. Why is it so hard to achieve this. To love each other?
@silverwares-737 жыл бұрын
Dee, very well said ! I can't agree more ! We, as a people, as one, can learn sooo much from one another if we would not allow these 'roadblocks' to divide us. Everyone should take the time to LISTEN to one another, try to see things from the other person's perspective, do not be quick to judge others for you do not know what the other person may be going through or has experienced. Ego and pride only DIVIDE. We are all unique, each person is different, stereotyping must be rejected. Communicate and understand each other, you may be surprised at how much we are alike instead of different ! Well said, Dee !

This song has two people, black and white, addressing the same points from different perspectives with their own truths to it. One side isn't right while the others wrong. It's simply two sides of the same coin and before we fix the issue we need to understand the other side.

Due to recent events here in the US, I figured I would give this song a listen again. And I’ve gotta say thank you for not getting too caught up in one side and letting your emotions beat you. I just wish people could come together as... people, and not let race divide us. At this point, I feel like we do need to sit down at a table and vent our frustrations to each other so we can help each other. I understand each side has a point of view and I just wish I understood the other. There are too many people who jump to conclusions and then take those conclusions and put it with a certain group of people, rather than looking at the individual. That’s how stereotypes start. People tend to focus on the negatives and overlook the positives. It only takes one bad seed to ruin it for the rest. I’m not racist, and MOST people are not racist. But there are some. And I know it goes both ways. God bless everyone who reads this. 💯
