FYI, the way those pedals are designed, the eq section is post gain and the voice control is an additional mids control, except it’s pre-gain (which is why you noticed it’s like another gain stage). So at around 4:18 when you cranked the voice control and had the mids eq at one o’clock and you said “for that scooped kind of sound”, what you actually had going on was the total opposite of scooped. If you want a scooped Fender sound, voice knob set to the left of noon is your scooped Fender Blackface amp tones. (Voice knob to the right is mids-boosted Fender Tweed tones).

Enjoying the video. I think-hey it would be great to hear ‘All Right Now’ and then you play it. The combination of the Les Paul with the American and high gain gives a very Ted Nugget sounding feel. That was heavy metal back in ‘77.’

You said someone was asking you about metal. I guess it depends upon what kind of metal they are looking at emulating. I have a Peavy VYPYR VIP2 I got from our friends at Smokefoot for only like $130 and it has the amp modeling for the 6505 in it which is actually Peavy’s old 5150. There is also the amp called “Insane” on the Spark which is also modeled after the 5150. The 5150 is kinda the big metal amp now and has been for quite a few years. My only issue with the 5150s is that they don’t have a clean channel on them. I like the distorted tones in them but it’s odd one can’t switch back and forth from clean and distorted. That Joyo pedal sounds really good as does that Les Paul that is a sweet style of the Les Paul there

For Nuge tones, I tried the American Sound I have, and it sounded pretty flubby and unenjoyable. I think a California Sound set for a Mark type tone might work.

Does it need to be used with a tube amp only or can it make a solid state amp sound good?

I had a store guy tell me that only a Friedman OD (expensive!) pedal will do much to "save" a Solid State amp. Of course, he then attempted to sell me one!
