Joypur Forrest Bishnupur | Drone Shot | Unseen Bengal

Thick forest of Sal, Palash, Mahua, Neem etc. Not very far from Kolkata in the Bankura District of West Bengal. Many of us are unaware that a place known as "Padampur" whose original name was "Pradymnapur", was the birthplace of the Malla dynasty. At one point of time when the Milla kings accepted Vaishnava, they took a project to transform the entire landscape in line with Vrindavan. Lot of new full laterite temples like Gokul Chand and Shyamchand was built which was followed by many smaller temples by local landlords. In the next phase when Bishnupur was thriving with Terracotta the same was replicated in Joypur. As a result, we find two exquisite nine pinnacle temples dedicated to lord Vishnu in De and Datta Para of the Block.
Besides, there are at least five to six smaller (five pinnacle) temples with magical beauty of Terracotta. There are relics of Pal - Sena period. Huge Shiva lingam, Barahi idol and so on. Really speaking the place is under evaluated. There is huge waterbody called "Samudra Badh" where boating has stated recently. Jungle in the other side of the highway had a runway which was built and used during World War II. There is a watch tower maintained by the Forest department. Yes, there is dearth of guide. But it is available. More so, if your visit coincided with the Rath Jatra you will be amazed to see the brass chariot dedicated by a wealthy lady. Just mind blowing. The place is Bhagaldighi. Once the Ras festival was quite popular in the region and Joypur has at least five such double storied "Ras Manch”.
