@@SilasFarseer Unfortunately APEM (CH Products parent compan) doesn't seem interested in refreshing their joystick line and is mostly about their industrial products, with the prices the VKB, Virpil and company have they could swap two of the buttons on the Flightstick Pro wth 4 way hats and sell it as a cheaper yet still reliable lefty stick. Not that you can't basically have similar results with a Pro Throttle (I played Descent, Overload and now Everspace with it) but it seems people that really prefer a full lefty stick and don't have enough money can only get a t-16000m.

VKB has released the SCG Kosmosima grip. I own 2 of these with Gunfighter Mk2. I love them. Every button feel right in place for my medium sized hand. Now the MCG grip is also available with a twist option. I plan on buying one MCG for the 2 trigger which would permit to fire weapon 1 and 2 independantly and simultanously. I will also buy the upgrade from Gunfighter Mk2 to Mk3. At the time I bought the joysticks, VKB also selled the upgrade from GF Mk1 to Mk2. It is nice to know that VKB propose this and that you can still upgrade your hardware without buying a whole joystick every time.

I have tried Virpil's last four "restocks", not enough stock each time... Or sold out as soon as the server is ready for orders. It's nice to see that reviewers get the easy route to getting stock. That and the fact that neither Virpil or VKB have a pre-order function- are souring opinions on their service. Not worth the hassle since neither company will stock sufficiently to meet the need they are hyping up. I'll make do with my Warthog, it only took me one attempt to get, and only three days to receive. A shame they couldn't get an Amazon shop going. I would have been sold from there.

Fortunately VKB & Virpil were emerging at that point and I gave it a shot & no regrets...
@greatwood91275 жыл бұрын
It's taken VKB 2 years to come out with the grips that were promised (kosmosima) when the gunfighter was introduced. It has been frustrating to say the least. And I would not recommend them to everyone. On the other hand, the Gunfighter is an amazing stick and top notch build quality but the manufacturer is obtuse to the needs of the customer and are very slow to respond, if at all. there was a change in the base from the original gunfighter even before any of promised grips were released. There was no buy-back option or upgrade kits available for the gunfighter mk I to the mk II. Which would have been all that was needed and lack of any info on release dates with sketchy availability. On their behalf, they are a custom high end manufacturer and at the quality level and design that they offer...vkb and virpil are really the only choices for the discerning customer. Choose your poison. I'd probably roll Virpil Warbird had I to do it all over again. My 2 cents.

For each of both left and right grips, the top pod needs two pushbuttons in the top corners, three five-way trims, and an analog ministick/push to the rear, and a three-way trim to the outboard side; the right (cyclic) grip needs two folding triggers of different lengths and travels (goldenrod for the short 100° trigger, red for the long 180° trigger), the left (collective) grip one black 180° folding trigger. The handle needs a two-stage gray trigger with a red push beneath; a five-way trim at the top, and a semi-flush cyan push in the side, of the thumbrest; and a red semi-outriggered pinky button. Both could use an analog squeeze handle in the column extension (as all Russian aircraft use an air-brake controller on the attitude/cyclic stick, Mil and Kamov helicopters a clutch release on the collective pitch arm).

I have a warthog and absolutely love the weight and feel overall (throttle and stick). My concern is, as you put it, with the cheap plastic neck on the base. What a bummer! I was thinking of getting the MT50 base but it sounds like it's being discontinued? Will the Warthog stick work on the WarBRD base as it does with the MT50 base? And as such would that suddenly "grant" a Z-axis to a warthog stick? THat would be my dream. I do like the prospect of the WarBRD but with no adjustable hand rest I'm not so sure. I was only eyeing it because of the analog xbox stick on it. Thanks for the video!

Some months ago we spoke about the VKB gunfighter base to stick disconnect issue. I contacted VKB...received a quick and helpful reply. However the "fix" by undoing the cam lock - pushing down on the stick to base - tightening the cam lock with extra force...as suggested on some other sites...did not work. Over the months it eventually got worse. I locked out the twist option with included screw. Helped a little but eventually the disconnects were happening more often. Last night I decided to take the stick section apart...lo & behold after doing some continuity checks on the three (black yellow red) wires that feed the tiny board with three tiny spring loaded pin connectors... I discovered a broken red wire inside the twist & power connection tube. You pretty much need to disassemble the whole twist mechanism to get at the tiny pin board. After a little solder job and some extra solder on the black wire connection which looked thin... boom! VKB Gunfighter III stick to base issue solved. Works excellent....I ran the stick through all possible positions. Power light stays lit...buttons are all working. I didn't have to push down with excessive pressure on stick or overtighten the cam lock either. Back to loving this VKB Gunfighter Mark III Space Combat edition.

Noobifier, curious question: What about a joystick makes it more "Spacey"? Personally I'd prefer a mirrored match set of grips over ambidextrous grips if they give you more inputs. Sure a mousewheel is nice, but you give up hats/mini-sticks for it. The MCG PRo decimates the other grips as far as inputs, even analog ministick options. I roll with a VKB MCG Pro and the fantastic Thrustmaster FCS Throttle (analog strafing stick and paddle!) and rudder pedals but if I were to go Virpil I'd rather have the extra inputs from the more serious MongoosT grips. I like that the manufacturers are breaking the milsim molds and making new grips, but ultimately for me it's about how much you can do hands-on over RGB and a fancy "space" moniker. Nice review overall though, fun lineup.

Excellent to see all these sticks compared against one another. Good info as always. I could have done with a bit less of the fight ringmaster stuff... ;) but thanks for putting the effort in as always! I have two Warthogs for HOSAS. Had hoped to get a left handed Warthog but that option seems to have gone silent. Virpil has definitely been a top option as a replacement but it seems like they shot up in price? Not unexpected given their uptick in coverage and popularity.
@det.bullock44615 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that the Warthog is a replica military stick first and foremost conceived before the return of spacesims and you don't get lefty sticks in the army. The price and the gimbal problems (it's a 400 Euros set and you require the user to use their own grease and hope the plastic ball doesn't break? Really?) is what made me buy a CH Combatstick instead, after all I play mostly spacesims, never had a joystick with rudder and I mostly needed something reliable.
@CarvellFenton5 жыл бұрын
@@det.bullock4461 I have a CH HOTAS too, had it first before I wanted to go dual stick, but I wasn't happy with it. Calibration issues, even after an RMA, and I couldn't get used to the dual barrel design of the stick. Had I been able to get the left handed Warthog mod I'd have been very pleased. The Virpil stuff was a more expensive option when I bought, but saving a bit longer might have been the right choice. Hindsight is 20-20 😏
@det.bullock44615 жыл бұрын
@@CarvellFenton Well, I came from a very cheap Saitek and CH was mostly what I could afford that was reliable and available (by the time I needed a new one Saitek went down the drain and I really didn't like the button placement on the Thrustmaster sticks I could afford). I don't really mind the centering mechanism personally and the only issue I had with calibration was with games that default to no deadzone (basically the stick is a bit top heavy and it pitched down a bit, but a very small deadzone solved the problem). Other than that after three years is still going strong and I've been torturing the thing quite bit with spacesims and recently even Ace Combat 7 (no thanks to Bandai/Namco and their stupid Thrustmaster exclusivity). If I could afford to spend 300+ Euros at once I'd probably get that spacesim variation of the Gunfighter MKII that's going to come out but that's more than what I've spent with my Combatstick and Pro Throttle put together and I didn't buy the throttle with it, I did a few months later after confirming it could work with my old spacesims so as not to spend 140/150 Euros on a paperweight (I didn't get more modern games like Elite until a bit later).

Quick question: I know there was a tilt toward space sim in the review. What Stick would you buy if you were going to be mainly flying DCS A10C Warthogs and other jets in DCS and also use sticks with flying in X-Plane 11? Would it be the Thrustmaster Warthog or the VKB? Don't base your answer on the throttle, ignore the throttle all together with your answer and thanks in advance, subscribed!!
@NOOBIFIER13374 жыл бұрын
I will answer by elimination. I would avoid the TMWH gimbal vase at all cost. I still like the WarBrd base out of all because of their double mirrored cams. They use them in the pedals as well. They are the most linear. I have tested WinWing and VKB, they are both sitting on a shelf. Then you need to decide upon grip, Virpil has many to choose from.

VKB, the best stick money can't buy. I love mine but it took 8mo of waiting for 10, yes 10 of them to come in stock and that sold out in a day. Then it took an additional 3mo of waiting for the extension to come in stock. But hey once I did order it arrived FROM CHINA in like 2 days, haha Now the race is on, what will release first? The VKB throttle or Star Citizen?

Pretty good review....Although I was leaning VKB for my new HOSAS or HOSASAT setup anyway, the true main decider for me was availability. VKB had everything I wanted in stock and an MKIII Kosmo-SCM-Left & MKIII MCG Pro were in my hands in about one week. The only thing available at Virpil were the pedals and I ordered those. A few weeks later the new MongoosT CM2 throttles came out so I picked up a couple. I still have not used the Virpil throttle or pedals, I'm still using my G29 race sim pedals. Someday I may switch over to the Virpil pedals and hook up the Throttle or maybe just sell them. I'm ok with the G29 pedals at this time and not really hurting for buttons to demand use of the throttle.

Alfredo Santiago if you are looking for accuracy and fine tuning, then yes I definitely recommend upgrading to vkb gladiator mk2, or even the t16000. I think both have about the same level of precision, but the vkb just feels waayy better imo. The durability of the CH fighterstick, which is why I bought it in the first place, is not enough of a selling point for it to be worth it IMO, sure it’ll never break, but you can just feel how inaccurate it is after using a newer stick. I’m also just talking about the non-pro model mk2, not the $300+ pro model. Although one day I’d like to upgrade to one of those really nice ones. I just can’t seem to find any for sale anywhere.

Edit- nvm I read your other comments and saw what you said about that:)..... however, I still wanted to ask, do you need to buy the warBRD base, and a grip on top of that? Or are there other components you have to buy as well? I’d really like to get in on this restock frenzy:)

@@yugen I was surprised too as prior to this I had to buy a new joystick every 2 years or so. Before this I had 2 Saitek 45's a Saitek 54, 2 Logitech pro's. when the last 54 broke, I went looking for a Thrustmaster and came across the CH Fightertick. It was cheaper than the Thrustmaster, so I bought it and paired it with a surviving Saitek 54 throttle and I've been using it ever since. The only maintenance I've done is to put some silicone grease in the parts where there is friction and used a camera lens brush to remove the dirt and dust from the insides and the various nooks and crannies.

Cool video! 1 small detail, Thrustmaster showed a new handle at E3, a Hornet based grip. The other 2 things Thrustmaster premiered at E3 are out, so if the new handle isnt out, it very soon will be. But, it doesn't make a difference, it still has the same problem with a plastic gimbal. It's why it is half the price of the other reviewed sticks here. And of course VKB announced a new stick as well (Tomcat based), but it takes them a lot of time to get new things out, and they have a few things prequeued ahead of it (a space stick and a throttle).

@@NOOBIFIER1337 I just learned something that might interest you. I've read you can swap a Thrustmaster grip onto a Virpil base and it works 1 to 1, no firmware or software updates. The tester used the old Virpil base, but what works for the old base should work for the new? It would be awesome if you were willing to test this! Might add value to the Virpil base with the Thrustmaster Hornet standalone grip coming soon! To me this cements Virpil over VKG, now someone needs to coax TM into selling the Warthog grip standalone. They might well sell it to me for the request, I know they do that for other parts. Virpil must have done that on purpose, very good choice on their part! One more way to undercut TM with their superior product. www.reddit.com/r/hotas/comments/6wjhkx/warthog_grip_on_virpil_base/ The thread I read this from. The same poster said that you can use Thrustmaster grips on a VKG, but it requires a firmware update to make this work.

Hoped to have gotten more details on quality of switches and secondary analog axis. Beyond your z-axis bias, this seemed like a murder by VKB if they have more expansive and adjustable gimbal and more options on their sticks. I know you have a much closer relationship with Virpil, so it maybe behooves you to give them a win (however narrow), but maybe that’s why you picked the boxing analogy. they are known for rigged decisions too! :P
